Do you ever feel like your brows are out to get you? Like they have an agenda? Like they have ulterior motives?
I do. ? Sometimes they absolutely refuse all orders, totally ignoring my requests, whether I come at them with a brow gel and/or an eyebrow brush.
Do you want fuller, (somewhat) natural-looking brows, but don’t want to have to spend an hour on it and use a ton of product?
If you answered “yes,” then this brow hack is for you! ?
I just started doing this and have gotten some good feedback on my brows lately, so of course I have to share this hack with you, because I’m guessing you’re probably as obsessed with brows as I am. 🙂
First, you’ll need a clear brow gel, your favorite brow filler (pen, pencil, powder, whatevs) and — drumroll please — YOUR FINGERS!
Yes, fingers are the key to this party. ✌️ ?
Start by applying the clear brow gel to your naked brows. There are so many good brow gels out there, BTW (see: Benefit, NUDESTIX, Anastasia), but I’m using the one by MAC now because I like the hold. It gets the job done, but it doesn’t make my brows too stiff.
Don’t be shy, either. Pile that ish on!
Now, instead of grabbing a brow spoolie or a brush comb and running that through the gel, push your brow hairs into place with your fingers.
Yup, that’s right! Simply press and maneuver the hairs exactly where you want them.
The secret is the power of fingertip pressure. ? I think it just works better than a spoolie or a brow brush.
My strategery is to push the brow hairs in the inner half of my brow upward, and the hairs in the outer tail slightly up and out. I think that makes the brows look full, fluffy and thick.
At this point, you can proceed with the rest of your makeup while the gel sets, and then when it’s dry fill in any sparse spots in your brows with a pencil, pen or powder.
It’s weird, but when I do this with my fingers, I’m able to get away with using less brow pencil, and I think my brows generally look more natural and less…I dunno…heavy-handed than when I use a brush or another tool?
Please note that most brow gels get stickier after setting for a minute or two, so if you’re there pushing your hairs around, and you feel the gel getting stuck here and stickier, that’s totally normal!
I hope you give this a try. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF!

That sounds interesting. I don´t do much to my brows other than fill in two sparse parts, but I do use a gel. Will try styling them with my fingers tomorrow and see if that makes a difference in how they look.
Karen says
Hope you give it a try!
Savannah says
I love your whole look here. That lipstick is very flattering on you!
Karen says
Thanks, Savannah. It’s MAC Creme in Your Coffee, a pinkish brown from the permanent collection.
How’s your Friday going?
Christine says
Happy Aloha Brows Friday, Karen!
I will find a way to do this with my soap! Once I deposit soap with the spoolie, using it to style the brow hairs that I do have left irritates my skin, it’s very scratchy. This will be more gentle and put me more in *cue Janet Jackson* control.
Yay for this wonderful hack!
P.S. If you ever try Jones Road Beauty, I’d be *very* curious to know your thoughts!
Karen says
So funny, I was just listening to Janet this morning (and, um… dancing with my cat!).
Happy Friday to you too! What are you guys up to this weekend? I think we’re going fishing tomorrow at a lake nearby!
Christine says
Fishing!! So relaxing! I used to do that with my dad when I was very young. Just the two of us would go at the break of dawn to a tiny lake surrounded by woods somewhere in Indiana and it was so peaceful and lovely. Wonderful memories like these really stick so I’m sure your outdoor trips will add beautiful beads to Connor Claire’s “memory necklace.”
We’ll do the usual: Farmers Market, beach (although it’s “cold” here lately — I even ordered a tuque on Etsy!! lol), chilling at home with books.
Karen says
That sounds peaceful and lovely. Were you the type of kid who liked to keep the fish or let it go? Even though Connor hasn’t officially caught her first fish, I’m pretty sure when it happens she’ll let it go.
Please take in all the delicious produce at the market! I miss Hawaii, especially the fruit!
Christine says
We kept the fish to eat, but I did feel sorry for the worms!
Karen says
Yeah, me too. (Even though they freak me out. I can deal with bugs and other creepy crawlies but worms are NOT my jam.)
Megan says
This seems like a good tip! I usually only use a tinted brow gel. I don’t think the tinted would work well over the clear? I need to experiment. Good brows can make such a difference!
Karen says
I think it could work, but you’d have to clean up any gel that spills over onto your skin (it also happens with the clear, but it’s less obvious). Keep me posted on how it goes! I’m curious to know if it works.
Tatiana says
Gorgeous look. I’m loving the lipstick. And your skin looks so glowy and healthy!
I need to try this. I swear my brows are becoming longer and more unruly by the day.
Have a great weekend!
Efra says
I think the reason it works is the same principle as with laminated brows: when brows are “glued” to the skin, they look fuller.
I’ll try it tomorrow with tinted gel, but I think it’ll be messier.
Now my biggest experiment with makeup is doing my blush in a similar to Igari style, I was inspired by Faceonomics old post. And I quite like it because I look like I was doing exercise or like that Instagram filter.
Erica says
I heard this tip from someone on YouTube, and it works a treat! I’ve even tried it with using hairspray on a spoolie, and boy will your brows stay in place all day long!
Kim says
My brows need all the help they can get to look fuller, but I have to leave them a bit long to cover up the bald spots. It’s like an eyebrow comb-over. HAHA! Now I’ll be on the lookout for clear brow gel. 🙂
