I’m sure this tri-bun hairstyle has an official/formal name, but I intend to call it “space buns,” because there’s something undeniably Star Wars about it…
If I were hurtling through space on a rocket bound for Mars, and I was required to wear my hair up (to protect the sensitive electronic equipment from static discharge, you see), you better believe I would NOT be rocking a basic low pony.
SPACE BUNS ALL THE WAY, GIRLFRIEND.
Side note: Connor calls this a “pony hairstyle” because she’s into horses at the moment.
Maybe it’s the stars twinkling in the firmament…but sparkles and space buns just seem *right* to me, hence the purple glitter in this look.
I got a few compliments from my coworkers when I wore this to the bakery the other day. 🙂 It was nice. I think it was because this is one of those looks that isn’t too over the top in terms of base and lips (I kept the foundation super sheer and the lips glossy and subtly sparkly, which boosts the wearability for daytime), but I think the glitter is punchy and fun enough to catch your eye.
If you like this type of makeup, you need to follow Katie Jane Hughes on Instagram ASAP. She’s a celeb makeup artist known for her sheer base, the wings she does, and her penchant for sparkle. It’s very inspiring!
I’m using some new MAC products from the very sparkly Staring You holiday collection, by the way. This collection, which is out now, has new Spellbinder Shadows in glittery holiday shades (you might remember these ionized eyeshadows from 2016).
Two things if you plan on picking up one of these loose shadows: 1) most definitely DO NOT skip wearing an eyeshadow base; and 2) apply it using a stiff, flat eyeshadow brush, or your fingers.
If you’d like to chat more about the Spellbinders, drop me a comment. I’m happy to help!

- Cheeks: MAC Blushbaby
- Lips: MAC Whirl Lip Pencil, MAC Young Star Lipglass (also from the holiday collection)

I like the sparkle and the ‘do but the show stopper here is your skin! It looks really great. 🙂
Karen says
Aww, thanks Kim! 🙂

I’ll bet you’re the most stylish baker in the shop. Fabulous!
Will we be seeing swatches of the collection?
So Connor has gone from Doc McStuffins to Disney Princesses to My Little Pony. Isn’t it heartbreaking and hilarious to watch how they go through those stages? Our youngest has left behind Baby Shark and is now all things Minnie Mouse and Paw Patrol.
Karen says
Hi Suzanne,
Yup! Swatches are coming soon. 🙂
It *is* so heartbreaking to see them go through all the phases. Has your youngest gotten into PJ Masks yet?
Suzanne C says
No, #3 did PJ Masks briefly (we had a little regression issue with her briefly about that time), but she’s back to Frozen now that the second movie is coming out. I’m less than thrilled; we did Elsa for soooo long the last time.
Karen says
Oh yeah, we’re on a major Elsa/Anna kick! Don’t even ask me how many times Frozen has been played in our house over the last week.

So do your bakery co-workers know that you’re a rockstar beauty blogger?
If I worked with you at the bakery, I would be totally hitting you up for makeovers. I would be making up excuses about big evening outs so it didn’t seem weird.
Love this look, I could totally manage.
How’s Miss Rosie?
Karen says
LOL, they know I like to wear makeup and know a few things about it. 🙂
I want to see you in this look, so try it ASAP!
Also, Rosie is doing great. We moved Connor into her big girl bed recently (which is why we painted the walls purple last weekend), and Rosie stays with her every night until she falls asleep. It’s the cutest thing!
Jennifer says
I love that so much. What a great cat!
Most cats, in my experience as a lifelong crazy cat lady, are good. But, there are some that are crazy anti-social and dislike kids, which isn’t fun for anyone.
Chelsea says
Okay I’m officially following Katie Jane Hughes! Such pretty looks and I love this look on you!

Space buns for space, the absolutely right choice.
