MAC Unsung Heroes: Tempting Eyeshadow

November 26th, 2011 by Karen 27 Comments

To call MAC Tempting ($15 for a pan; $11 for the Pro-Refill Pan above) a basic brown eyeshadow would be like calling Kelly Clarkson a pretty good singer.

Lately, this bronzy coco that shimmers with microscopic flecks of golden glitter has been for me, in the words of the great Barry White (RIP), “my everything.”

Sure, some gals may not be as tempted by Tempting as I am, may call it too “blah” to its pan, but it’s shades like Tempting that made me first consider eyeshadow for everyday, workaday wear.

A wash of Tempting’s highly pigmented, finely milled powder over my lids and smudged along my lower lash line produces a buttery smokey brown eye that’s anything but boring.

Who says ya need more than one shadow for an elegant eye?

And I think Tempting also sings duets well with shades like Woodwinked, Mulch, Bronze, Patina, Shroom, Smut, Carbon, Indianwood, All That Glitters, Retrospeck and Soba, among many others.

One of these days on your travels to a MAC counter or store, allow yourself to be tempted, and give MAC Tempting a try. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Another shade I would have never looked twice at. Thank you for your reviews. I have picked out most all of my eyeshadows after reading your blog.

I love your Unsung Heroes posts, Karen! Tempting looks like another lovely e/s shade – will have to check it out sometime. It definitely wouldn’t be an all-over shade on me, but I absolutely love the look of it on your lids!

Tempting is my #1 eyeshadow from MAC. It’s the only one I’ve hit pan on so far. 🙂

Tempting was one of the 1st eyeshadows I bought and although I rarely wear it anymore because my eyeshadow collection has grown, I’m still glad to have it in my collection. I remember pairing it with Woodwinked all the time. I would wear Woodwinked on the lids, Tempting on the crease and Embark or Carbon on the outer v. Now that you reminded me of Tempting, I just might wear it tomorrow. =)

I love Tempting too! I love it with Retrospeck 🙂 I think it’s one of MAC’s better luster formula eyeshadow.

I love Tempting as well! I wear it all over by itself as well. I’ve been really into just one shadow looks lately. Easy!

Ooh! I’m tempted! I have found myself unhappy with many dark browns that I pick up lately. Some turn ashey or grayish when applied, appear too taupe-y when applied with golds, or are too warm and remind me of, as my co-worker so eloquently put it , “baby-**** brown.” lol
How would you compare this to Urban Decay’s “Darkhorse”, which I have in my newly acquired Rollergirl palette (LOVE!) ?

Love it with the red lips! Woodwinked is one of those shades that are loved by many, but I just can’t seem to make it look good on me. It always turns overly coppery!

I’ve been wearing bronze shadows a lot more lately and really enjoy how it can look soft, pairs nicely with bright colours, and can be easily smoked up. 🙂

I have Tempting and it really wows me. I know it does seem kinda standard for a brown, but I love using it on my NC42 skin.

Definitely my sort of shade – I’m trying to wean myself off a palette of entirely grey shades – albeit very pretty ones – and this looks like a good way to start:)

This is how I use UD Stray Dog (or sometimes Underground).

Sharpening almost makes me want to buy a few technakohls.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
