MAC Unsung Heroes: Persistence Matte Lipstick

June 1st, 2015 by Karen 18 Comments

MAC Matte Lipstick in Persistence ($16)

With lipstick, life and cats, persistence pays off. If you’ve struggled to find your perfect cat soulmate, just keep feeding your next-door neighbor’s awesome kitty. Give her a can of something gravy-ful every day until she decides that you’re much cooler than her current people (j/k only; don’t do this), and that she’s welcome to make your house her new home.

Persistence, y’all! It’s all about persistence. 😉

On the lipstick front, I’ve been searching high and low for the right ’90s-style warm matte brown (so trendy right meow), and it feels like I’ve been searching forever…

I figure that I could revert back to wearing my ’90s jam, MAC Paramount, but I’d rather find something newer, fresher and updated.

Plus, it’s almost summer, and the last thing I want to be wearing in summer with my booty shorts short shorts is dark brown vampire lips. I dunno… That combo just doesn’t sound right.

MAC Matte Lipstick in Persistence ($16) sounds much better.

Wearing MAC Persistence Matte Lipstick

Persistence, a warm peachy cinnamon with a matte finish, was recently added to the MAC permanent line with the new MAC Matte Lip collection.

One of the things I love about it (other than the fact that it’s been a great conversation starter!) is how it sort of brightens up my face. It doesn’t make me feel washed out or just plain blah like a lot of the darker ’90s-style matte lipsticks out there do, especially the ones that are more brown.

Cinnamon Persistence has some red to it, so it’s almost like a red statement lip…but without the in-yo’-face crimson color.

Like other great MAC Matte Lipsticks, Persistence is highly pigmented, smooth and looks lovely in pics.

I also think it’s beyond gorgeous when worn with warm brown eyeshadows like MAC Soft Brown or Saddle, especially with a little bit of MAC Arena or Ricepaper to highlight the inner corners and brow bone.

If you like the idea of Persistence but feel like you might still need more color on your face, don’t give up! Be (wait for it…) persistent (haha, so dumb). Apply Persistence on your lips, and then tap your favorite teal shade — or maybe a duochrome with some teal in it like MAC Club — on your lids. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Have you ever tried MAC Brick-o-la? I think that will be a great color for you too. It’s also my personal (unsung) hero.

I don’t know if I would have picked this one out of the lipstick lineup, but it does seem kind of perfect!

So pretty! This is a great color. I admit, it’s a bit weird that 90s stuff is coming back, but I can get on board with this lipstick!

I think it looks absolutely fantastic on you. Incredibly flattering, soft, a sort of MLBB with a warm brown twist.
I’ll definitely try it on when I have a chance (wait, is the collection out in stores already?), I hope it will look that good on my skintone too!

I noticed it right away in your previous post and was going to be all “Lovin’ the 90s lip!” and then saw that everyone in the comments had already beaten me to it! 🙂 This is a ridiculously flattering color on you. Great update on my favorite lip decade. HAHA!

oooh I just got this over the weekend as my free back to mac lippie. I read your review after the fact and completely agree with how much it brightens your face up. its such a beautiful color I’ve been wearing it with just concealer, blush and mascara and letting this be the focal point. it’s natural and I can still wear it during the summer I think but will be a great transition into fall. very happy with my choice 🙂
(It only took me about 45 minutes to decide on this color)
Do you still use this color? I think it will be in my purse well into fall and winter!

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my three-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my kitty supermodel cat (Tabs).
