The MAC Gently Off Wipes + Micellar Water Bulk Wipes

Pink and black!

What do pastel pink and black have to do with removing makeup?

Good question.

Maybe it’s a subliminal reference to black liner and pink lipstick…? I don’t know, but the new MAC Gently Off Wipes + Micellar Water ($29 for 100 wipes and coming to MAC counters in September) is working its voodoo charms on me.

Freakin’ pink and black, man! Yeeeeah, I’m a sucker, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Pink and black gets me every single time. 🙂

MAC’s first micellar wipe remover

They come out next month, but micellar cleansers in general have been around for at least a decade. I know I’ve been talking about them since 2007… They’re a specific type of gentle liquid makeup remover, and “gentle” is the key word here, which uses oil to remove makeup, dirt, grime, kitty kisses, etc.

The oil is encapsulated in water, so when you apply the liquid to your face with a cotton ball or, in this case, a pre-soaked wipe, you can take off everything without stripping your skin.

Now about that pink again…

I can’t handle it.

Thank you for waiting patiently while I hold up this packet for absolutely no reason other than to share its cuteness.

Best for sensitive skin

These unscented wipes are made specifically for sensitive skin (which I happen to have), and they remove makeup and dirt without stinging, stripping or leaving a yucky, sticky feeling behind, which — ugh! — I can’t stand, especially on my neck.

Hello, pet peeves! Sticky neck is the worst.

I think these work best if you have sensitive skin and don’t need to remove long-wearing or waterproof eye makeup, although they can remove waterproof mascara and long-wearing liner, but you’ll have to use and some elbow grease and probably also a second wipe to remove all of your foundation, eye makeup, lipstick, etc.

If you’re hella ballin’ and living that glamorous two-wipe life, that’s cool, but if you wanna get everything done with just one wipe, then the regular MAC Wipes in the white and black packaging, which I’ve used for years, are similarly priced and great. But they aren’t always good for extra sensitive skin types, because the remover is…hmm, how shall I say this? Stronger? More potent? It isn’t as gentle as this version.

A drugstore alternative

Now, if you’re looking for a great wipe for sensitive skin that removes everything, including waterproof, the Boots No. 7 wipes are so, so, SO good, and, pssst! — easier on the budget.

Points for Instagrammable-ness

I still like these new MAC ones, though, and the packaging is so freakin’ pink! They’re Instagrammable, and will be extra cute when I stick ’em in a flat lay, yeeeeeah!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Haha – i love pink and black too! So I can sympathise with the love for the packaging. I love the regular Mac wipes, so would love to try these two, my skin is sensitive after all. And yes – all that pink cuteness!

Black and Pink – it’s so girly, boudoir-ish…I love it! Yeah, micellar water doesn’t get the job done as well as a removing balm but this packaging is indeed adorable.

Or straight-up makeup removing oils! Have you tried the one by DHC? It’s really good.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
