So, I’m writing some lists this week, and one of my lists is titled, “Colors for eye looks” and with the #MBBInstaChallenge, which you guys are kicking so much @ss on, this month is all about busting out of my comfort zone!
Right at the top of my list of eye colors that, for various reasons, I don’t reach for that often are orange and warm red, which were huge eyeshadow trends last fall.
With that in mind, I decided to do an orange/warm reddish bronze eye look today with Malibu Bronze Eye Shadow from the new MAC Caitlyn Jenner collection, because I think it goes SO well with one of my favorite eyeliners of all time, the otherworldly MAC Teddy, a bewilderingly beautiful shimmery brownish bronze, and if you don’t have Teddy in your life, YOU NEED TO GET IT ASAP.
Today I’m all about Teddy and Malibu Bronze. I used Malibu Bronze on my lids right up to the crease (it’s very pigmented, and it buffs out easily). Then, to transition the color, I actually used a face powder from the collection called Buddy. It’s a warm brown with lots of intense golden pearl (it reminds me a lot of NARS Laguna, but it’s waaaay warmer). I stuck that in my crease to blend out the edges, and I’m also wearing it on my cheeks and across my nose as a bronzer to tie my cheeks in with my eyes.
I experimented with a few different lip looks for this…first with a warm deep red lipstick called Authentic Red, and then added a little golden gloss on top (Kindness Cremesheen).
I thought that was OK…but it seemed like a little too much for what I’ve got going on today (which is nada). Better for date night.
Next I tried a nude lip using Whirl Lip Pencil, Rockit Lipstick and Beautifully Bare Cremesheen (which looks like MAC Deelight Cremesheen’s twin sis), but I feel like it looked a little unbalanced…
Finally, I tried warm, creamy red MAC Understanding Lipstick (it’s an online exclusive), and voila! Balance. That’s what I finally went with.
How do you feel about eye colors like these? — warm oranges, reddish browns and purples? What are some of your faves in those families? Which ones do you wear the most?

What a sweet movie! I saw someone do a post about it on Facebook, and I’m so glad I clicked “Play.” It was nominated for a Golden Globe, I think in the Best Musical category. I thought it was fantastic!
It’s a cute ’80s coming-of-age story about a teenage boy in Ireland who starts a band with some of his eccentric classmates. Very sweet and quaint. If you grew up listening to ’80s music, I bet you’ll like it as much as I did. 🙂

Those are kinda my colors, and I liked a few things from this collection but it’ll be a pass. I can’t bring myself to support anything Jenner or Kardashian. Plus, I have enough things in my own collection to duplicate this. The looks you did were really nice on you though! I love how it made your eyes pop!

I posted a look featuring Worthy and Teddy today 😀 Love your look Karen, you can NEVER go wrong with warm smokey eyes for me.

I really like your final look! I think you pull off the orange eyeshadow quite well.
I keep experimenting with purple, red, and orange eyeshadows, because some of them are beautiful colors and I’ve got them in palettes — and because, theoretically, they should bring out the olive green in my dark hazel eyes — but I think they’re not very flattering on me. Colors that look great on my lips, or even cheeks if applied subtly (purples, lavenders, bright pinks, magentas), just don’t look that great near my eyes. And they don’t seem to bring out the green in my eyes, either, for some unknown reason! And orange, peach, and rust colors are hard for me to wear any way I try them (except small bits of bright orange in the print on a scarf — that works).

Lovely collection. Love the nude lip products and the blush duo. Btw, is the entire pencil, like the wood, black? Coz I haven’t seen that before.
Oh, and I watched that movie, Sing Street, last night. Thank you so much for recommending, I loved it! It’s a great ’80s vibe’ movie. Big hair – check. Stone washed jeans – check. Bright blush with not even a hint of a contour – check! And the songs…! Amazing. They’re all a medley of ear worms in my head right now. Haha 🙂

I’ve dubbed this the “mature Malibu sunset collection” 🙂

Pretty eye look! And I love a red orange lipstick paired with orange/bronze eye shadows. These colors are so on trend now. You turned me on to Teddy. And it’s one of my favorites eyeliners! It looks good but not overwhelming like black liners. Brings out the gold tones in my brown eyes. I always keep Teddy in my collection!

I saw that movie and it was cute! Surprise I made it to the end because I’m not much on musicals .

I love Understanding on you! I’ve been looking for a color similar to Authentic Red so I guess I need to seek it out.

Authentic Red and Kindness look fantastic together!

You’re right that your first lip has more of a date night vibe but I really like it. The shadow colors look great on you and have I already told you that your hair is looking fab? Your hair is looking fab. 🙂
