If you ever need to “improv” maracas (it could happen), just grab a jar of autumnal sprinkles, and give ’em a little shake! They’ll get the job done in a pinch.
I wore this khaki makeup look to the bakery last Friday, by the way.

It was inspired by this jar of mixed sprinkles and these fall leaf cupcake liners I found at Michaels.
Aren’t they pretty? I just love the greens and golds, and the little sugar dots have a subtle shimmer.
I was trying to channel fall via the khaki lids (which come courtesy of MAC Sumptuous Olive eyeshadow (an oldie but goodie) and Maybelline Jade Olive (a drugstore superhero), but it turned out more summery than I thought it would. HELLO, STORY OF MY LIFE.

I mean, I could’ve swapped the coral matte lip for something like MAC Burnt Spice, but I swear, I could not physically stop my hand from grabbing that coral. I saw my hand reach out, and I literally could not stop myself (coral addicts, you know what I’m talking about).
The glowing skin upped the summery-ness of the look even more, and that’s the work of this new-to-me product from It Cosmetics called Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer SPF 50+ in Tan.
I didn’t anticipate so much sheen from this tinted moisturizer. It’s very similar to NARS Pure Radiant — so it’s dewy, but with slightly more coverage and an even shinier finish. My skin ended up with a beach babe glow, and even though I tried to matte it down with a loose powder, it was still super shiny.
Basically, this stuff really wants to glow on your face!
Overall, I think it’s just OK… It doesn’t feel heavy, which is nice, and it does give a good amount of coverage, but I’m not crazy about the Tan color (I think it’s a little too gray on me) or how the finish seems to amplify the size of my pores.
Anyway, I’m gonna take another crack at another autumnal look again soon, perhaps with a brown smoky eye, or — ooh! — maybe a cranberry smoky eye with gold liner? We’ll see what happens… I have to admit that there still exists a slim chance that whatever I do will go summery again, because that’s just the story of my makeup life, HA HA HA!

Before I go, I have a question for you…
Rather, it’s for your sweet tooth.
What do you think of a pumpkin pie spiced cupcake with pecans coated in brown sugar? Would the pecans be too much? I’ve been trying to think of a way to marry pumpkin pie with pecan pie, and this seems like a good mix to my tummy. Of course, I tend to want to put everything and the kitchen sink in my baked goods, so I’d love a second opinion.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Ahhhh I love khaki, these eyes are right up my alley. The glasses I normally wear are turquoise though…
That sounds like a tasty cupcake! I made apple cider cupcakes last month and they didn’t turn out perfect but were pretty darn good.
Your apple cider cupcakes sound YUM. Did you frost them and decorate them, too? Today I’m going to work on piping!
We frosted them but nothing too fancy! I actually don’t like a ton of frosting.
If the cupcake has that pumpkin spice flavor then I think the pecans would add a nice balance of sweet to the spice! Go for it! If it’s a mistake it’ll be a delicious one and you course correct from there on your next endeavor with the learnings!
Thanks, Laura. I’m going to give it a go today. I do love the idea of a spicy pumpkin cake complimenting the sweetness of brown sugared pecans. I thought about doing a candied pecan too, but that might be a little over the top. I briefly also thought about adding a dusting of bacon bits on top of either a buttercream or a cream cheese frosting too… It could either be gross or brilliant, HA HA HA!
Hope you’re having a great Tuesday so far! What are you up to today?
Oh the bacon sounds divine. And the frosting!!! Just rambling around some museums and trying to culture myself 😉
Your hair looks fab so there’s no reason to not let it run free. 🙂 I know you didn’t ask for a vote, but I’m voting for cranberry for your next eye look! As for the cupcakes, my friend makes a pumpkin pie with pecan topping and it’s very good. I think you’d have the same good luck with your cupcakes. They’re chopped so it’s a bit like a crumble topping and, even though sweets aren’t my thing, I didn’t find it to be too much.
I tried the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation, because the saleswoman at Ulta said I would never want to wear foundation again after trying this, but I thought it made my pores look bigger, and my face look too shiny after just a few minutes, so I’m glad to hear you thought the same thing. I really wanted to love it because I like products that do more than one thing, but despite what the saleswoman said, I think I will go back to regular foundation. I think your cupcake idea sounds delicious! Love the sprinkles!
I love the baking inspiration for this look! So pretty and perfect for fall. Also, your pumpkin idea sounds delicious. A combination of pumpkin and pecans sounds delicious!
I would put sugar-coated pecans on top of the cupcake.
Also, your hair is looking fierce.
And, I really love the combination of baking and makeup talk. It’s purrfect for me.

Love the Khaki eye! I’ve got to find a palette with brighter, more unusual colors. Woman can’t live on brown eye shadow alone. I ordered the UD Born to Run palette, but the quality was awful. Not at all like the Naked palettes. I returned it the same day I got it.
Yes to the cupcakes! But I’m Southern and we’ll put pecans on just about anything, lol. I made some sweet and spicy pecans to snack on this weekend during football; that might be something to think about, to keep the cupcakes from being overly sweet. They had a little brown sugar and maple syrup, but also a tiny trace of cayenne, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Or you could do Chinese five spice- I used that in a pumpkin pie one year and it was terrific.
I am from the south and we do pumpkin pecan pie there. So YES, big yes to those cupcakes. They sound delicious.
Now for autumnal khaki shadows, I know you did a kick ass Chanel Vert Khaki look in your Unsung Makeup Heroes that totally inspired fall vibes(been wanting to get that ever since)… also I am thinking maybe something with the dark green in Tom Ford last Dance. Or do you have Clinique Olive in my Martini(my go-to khaki)? or time to revisit Tom Ford Honeymoon for your Cranberry/gold look? Or cranberry/gold in the new TF quads Suspicion and Body Heat? I’d love to see it! bring on the fall eye looks
Pecans are never too much!
