A Face of the Day With the New LORAC Spring 2016 Releases

LORAC spring 2016

What is it about spring that makes me want to bust out different products and start experimenting?

Could it be that spring cleaning is in full swing; the windows are finally wide open to let in a sweet smelling breeze; it stays light out well into the evening and (at least where I live) after a long white, dull winter, the whole world seems to be colorful again?

It’s finally sunny on a regular basis where I’m from! — a land I will lovingly refer to as “the arctic tundra.” (We’re not that far north. I’m just being dramatic.) Of course, for me, this means that I need to start bringing out my BRIGHTEST clothing, like my yellow cardigan and purple silk blouse. You name it — if it’s bright, I’m gonna wear it to celebrate the season.

For that reason, I like to keep my spring makeup a bit more understated, and LORAC has a wealth of new spring 2016 products to help.

LORAC released some truly fabulous blushes and lipsticks, two of which I’m wearing above. The Color Source Buildable Blushes ($22 each) are pigmented little pops of color in a beautiful array of hues from neutral to electric purple.

They’re 100% matte and smooth as butter, given their lack of shimmer. My worst nightmare in a matte blush is a product that deposits color on the cheeks but then blends poorly due to a stiff texture, and I’m happy to report that LORAC Color Source Buildable Blush blends like a dream! The pigmentation is intense, and these blushes blend incredibly well, allowing for layering to varying degrees of intensity.

I paired the bright pops of color on my cheeks with a nude lip, the new LORAC Alter Ego Lipstick in Exhibitionist ($17, exclusive to Kohl’s). When I think of a classic lipstick formula, these Alter Ego Lipsticks have it. Thick but smooth and easy to apply, they’re highly pigmented and, although not marketed as long-lasting, stick around on my lips for several hours.

As far as my eyes are concerned, I kept the look simple and classic with a soft brown smokey look suitable for daytime wear in the office, coupled with a light flick of black liner and some killer mascara. All of these products are available in the LORAC Soft to Smokey eye collection at ULTA ($30 each).

This set is packed with everything necessary to achieve a wide array of smokey looks, be they subtle and brightening for daytime, or deeper for a night on the town. The collection would be ideal to throw in a small makeup bag if you’re planning to transition your makeup to fun time after work.

Alas, although I took these pictures on a Friday, my evening excitement consisted of convincing two overly tired children to sleep…but perhaps you have something more exciting up your sleeve?

The collection includes LORAC Front of the Line PRO Eye Pencil in Black ($20 value), the brand’s Cobra Mascara ($21 value), a palette containing the shades Cream, Beige, Rosy Brown and Dark Brown, and a sample size Behind the Scenes Eye Primer. I elected to keep my look lighter and primarily used Cream on my brow bone and a mixture of Beige and Rosy Brown on my lids.

These shadows layer well, meaning that the collection really can take you from soft to smokey! 🙂

I love it when a brand brings out an array of products that aren’t necessarily part of a cohesive collection, because it gives fans the opportunity to mix and match and pick products that are perfectly tailored to their own lifestyle. LORAC’s Spring 2016 releases are diverse, from the pops of cheeky color to classic va-va-voom pigmented lips and buildable smokey eyes. This breadth is what makes the brand great and accessible for everyone at a “splurge but not too much of a splurge” price point.

How do you like to wear your makeup during the sunnier seasons? Have you tried any of the new LORAC spring 2016 releases?

I totally agree with you Sarah! These are particularly pigmented and smooth. I highly recommend then.

I’m definitely a fan of Front of the Line Pro liquid liner but my only LORAC shadow palette was a holiday release (several years ago) that was disappointing. Tons of fallout and not super blendable, for me. I did get some use out of it when one of the boys wanted zombie makeup for Halloween, though. 🙂

PS I’m happy for you with the spring weather. It’s snowing here today on the northern border. Happy, Snowy Easter! HAHA!

When I wrote this, Kim, I thought it was spring for sure. I’m based in Wisconsin and we got hammered with a huge storm yesterday. Yay … (not)!

I have been challenging myself to wear the pinks and pastels in my collection, and the green and blues. So far pink and pastel made an appearance, but blue and green still remain untouched.

Spring has only just begun! You’ll have plenty of time to get to them. 🙂

I haven’t tried any of the new Lorac yet, but I definitely want to get the blush in Ultraviolet.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
