You know I hate to say “never,” because you just never (ha, ha!) know. You never know when you’ll find a $100 bill in a grocery store parking lot, just like you’ll never know what you’ll be into next week, next month or next year, but if I were to choose a color of lipstick that I don’t think I should ever wear again…I’d have to go with blue.
It’s been “on trend” over the past few years to wear cray-cray Hunger Games lip colors, and blue, while I think it can look cool in pictures, looks ridiculous on me.
I’m not hip enough for blue.
I cringe just thinking about it…
Also, there was the frosty purplish gray lipstick I used to wear circa 1997. It was SO terrible! I wore it with dark plum — almost black — lip liner, which, of course, was unblended.
And we can’t forget the dab of clear gloss in the middle of the bottom lip.
OMG! It was fashionable at the time, but now I realize that it looked pretty terrible. I hope it never comes back in style, but if it does, I may try it just for kicks…
Nah. Nuh-uh. NOPE. Never again.
How about you? Do you have a “never again” lipstick color? Is it a dark brown from the ’90s? A bright Barbie pink? A pastel matte beige? Please do tell.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

The brown lipsticks from the 90s! just can’t do it anymore. Even the ‘greige’ nude lippies nowadays. They just look make me look dead.
Rachel says
Frosty pink! Anything frosty!

Any dark shade now. It just turns the corners of my mouth downwards and enhances Resting Beeotch Face. 🙁

Haha I love a 90s brown lip and I was a teen in the 90s. But I say never again to red. I use to buy so many trying to find that right one and I have just come to the conclusion red lips are not me! It’s too high maintenance and really over powers my small mouth. I feel I’m at the age too that I don’t have to partake in any trend I don’t want no matter how much the “beauty gurus” try to convince you!

Gray. *Shudders*

Okay that is the wrong blue on you FOR SURE. This is a tough question because I LOVE blue lipstick, green lipstick, grey lipstick… I’m even starting to like bold red, and have always been down for berries and purples. Maybe someday I’ll even try pink? Not really likely, but maybe. I was going to say brown, but I don’t know, maybe that will be fun someday, too. Coral might be mine. Coral is so not my color.
Rachel Runyan says
Matte “true nude” shades … as in ones that match my skintone. I’m too pale to pull them off. I need slightly darker, or glossy, or shimmery…something.
I think you could pull off a deep navy lipstick really well.
Jane says
I would have to say very pale beige or bubblegum pink. I didn’t even know there was blue lipstick!

Whitewalker Karen!
I’ve never tried anything too crazy and I can think of lots of colors that would be really unflattering – blue, grey (Grey clothing, grey eyeshadow , they all look terrible on me), anything like Velvet Teddy looks awful on me. I know what I like (coral reds, burgundy, peach, some plums and berries, plummy or peachy nudes) and I stick to those.

In the 60’s, for a few crazed months, I wore white lipstick by Yardley.
Bec says
Probably frosty light pink, I loved it in 2011/12 but not now. I don’t think it ever suited me.
LindaLibraLoca says
Well, the blue, the greens, the gray purples, the beiges (frosted) and the Barbie pinks are firmly on my “never again” list.
Kim says
You look good in every color lipstick. I get that you’re not running to preschool or TJ’s with the blue lip, but this whole look would be cute with your rainbow unicorn ensemble. I think so, anyway. 🙂
Pretty much anything that’s not sheer or clear lip balm gives me pause. I just don’t have a face for colored lips. I feel uncomfortable and self-conscious in almost any color except sheer brownish berries (or black honey). Though, if I could find the color of my lips when they’re very chapped, I’d probably wear that. Weirdly, a couple of times per year when my lips are like the Sahara (not flaky, but just raw feeling), people always say “I love your lipstick”.

MAC Sin, I drooled over that lip color for so long , but on me it was sinful , lol.
Ericca says
I used to wear black lipliner with clear gloss. Thank God a friend’s dad made a comment and I never work that combination again.
Karen says
LOL, I think I did that too back in the ’90s!
Michele DiCola says
I have every color possible . Maybe I need to start purging all my makeup !

It is hard to get the right colour lipstick. If it is too natural and pale, I look washed out. If it is a red matte and with the wrong makeup, you can look like a clown. Observing older women, like myself, it is best to stay away from purple/mauve/grey tones that look like you just stepped out of a casket. An absolute beautiful natural shade is Bobbi Brown BROWN, and a nice, bright shade for older women is Marc Jacobs, KISS KISS BANG BANG. I wish it was a tiny bit darker.
