What’s Your Favorite Bronzer?

July 3rd, 2009 by Karen 40 Comments

Right now mine’s a toss up between two — Stila’s new 24 kt Loose Mineral Bronzer in Brushed Gold ($34) and Illamasqua’s Bronzing Duo in Glint & Burnish ($30).

Each adds a subtle golden glow to my skin without looking too shimmery, and neither one has those Oompa Loompa orange undertones that some bronzers tend to have.

How about you? What’s your current fave bronzer?

Even though you can definitely get the Orange Glow look if you’re too heavy handed with it, I love and have used for ages Physicians Formula Solar Powder SPF 20 bronzer in light. It’s great for balancing out my face with my body because no matter what season, I always seem to be tan…I dub it the permatan and blame it on years of competitive soccer lol. But of course I exfoliate my face often, and my face is always a lot lighter. But I’m loving this!

I’m loving neutrogena’s sheer glow bronzer! it’s a liquid bronzer but i’ve been mixing it with a tinted moisturizer i have that is too light. I haven’t ventured into the powder bronze world yet, but this liquid stuff is great!

I loved my CARGO bronzer… until it fell on the floor 🙁 I just ordered NARS Laguna because I’ve heard such great things about it. Right now, though, I’m bronze-less!

Hi Karen. I really like Mac msf….but any bronzer I’ve ever used can still turn me orange if I go overboard with it. Happy 4th of July!

I’m using Too Faced Pure Bronze. It has crushed pearls in it so it’s shimmery but not overly shimmery. It leaves a great glow and is super easy to use!

      Hi Annie024,

Thanks for this rec. I haven’t tried a lot from the Too Faced line and from what I’ve played with it seems like the products have nice pigmentation and texture.

I’ve never used a bronzer, I wonder if I’m missing out. You know what I was thinking Karen? You should do a long youtube video of your makeup routine from start to finish, including any skincare stuff/primers, etc. you use. I’d just love to see how you get your face looking so glowy and perfect all the time!!!!

      Hi Jenna,

Thanks for the idea! Maybe I’ll do something like that in the future. I dunno if I could handle the interwebz checking out my bare face though, LOL. We’ll see.

Bronzer adds a lil’ bit of contour and color to the face. The trick is finding the right one that isn’t too orangey or too blingy. Try it sometime just for fun. You never know, right?

guerlain teracotta poudre bronzante legere in brunette – i can’t live without it. looks great sheer and also builds up! also not too obvious on my fair skin.

second choice is bare escentuals id bareminerals all over color in warmth. i like this more when i’ve got a competition tan going though… not for everyday use.

      Hi Ines,

Bareminerals seems to be so popular! I tried it once a few years ago and broke out like crazy.

      Anyway, how’s your weekend going?

I ADORE Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster. I’m seriously addicted, and I do reccomend it to all my friends who want a cheap ($13!) and healthy glow. It’s actually a brownish tan with a light shimmer and it’s so easy to bulid. When I first bought it I was kind of dissapointed the color (you can’t really tell what color it is in the package) then when I actually put it on, I realized how amazingly it complimented my olive skin tone. I have it in the light to medium and I plan on buying the darker shade as summer progresses.I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this drugstore find! =)

    Hello Karen!!

First of all, Happy 4th of July!!! Although I’m not an American, and don’t live there, I’ve been to a couple 4th of July celebrations and always had a great time…

Secondly, my favorite bronzer is Guerlains Terracota in colour 20. I just started using a bronzer last year and am still pretty inexperienced. I got it because I don’t like to get a lot of tan during the summer and it seamed to give me the right shade and glow (to not look like an alien while everybody’s all bronzed).

But I only wish it carried a bit more of shine, something to highlight it. I love the Stilla one, but it would probably cost as much as Chanel here I doubt I’ll get a new one…

I know it’s geared towards teens, but I really like a light dusting of Sugar’s Tropic Tan. It gives me a golden glow with a pretty, non-OTT shimmer. Too much, though, does make me look like I’ve eaten WAY too many carrots. 😉

Have you tried the Chanel one w/4 colors – Pretty cool – you can use all or one – really can do alot with this – also for something quick – I sometimes take MAC Enough Said Blush & dust over my face.

My current favorite bronzer is the Carmindy for Sally Hansen Spring Bronzer. It’s weird, I can’t really see it when I put it on, but when I look at my face, I can see a difference in the two sides. And it was BOGO, so I picked up the darker color as well. I haven’t tried it (I’m probably too light for it), but perhaps I’ll give it a shot later today.

Happy 4th! Ironically my two favorite bronzers are a mid-end Too Faced Sun Bunny–very natural looking on my skin, and the very high end Guerlain TerraCotta in Blondes 01, believe it or not a bit more shimmery than TF, but gorgeous.

My favourite bronzer is Tom Ford’s The Bronzer in Bronzed Amber. It has tiny specks of gold in it that give the skin luminosity without visible glitter.

I tried both the MAC bronzers and they were either too dark or way too orange.

Is the Illamasqua Bronzer suited for pale people? TIA

      Hi Mia,

I’m thinking that the Illamasqua would look fantastic on pale skin. On me it adds more of a golden glow, but I think on lighter skin tones it could work more to contour.
