What’s a Limited Edition Item You Would Totally Bring Back?

March 16th, 2018 by Karen 30 Comments

mac throwbacks
Eyeshadows and lippies from days of yore in the MAC Throwbacks collection

Remember when you could stroll right up to any MAC counter and buy as many sticks of MAC Coffee liner as your heart desired? That’s something I’d bring back — MAC Coffee!

Who brings back a basic brown eyeliner? THIS GIRL DOES.

Um, whatever! It’s only the best, most perfect true neutral brown pencil liner around, and I regret to say that I didn’t find this out until later in life. It isn’t a reddish brown or an orange-y brown. It’s just a straight-up chocolate neutral BROWN, and it doesn’t budge on lash or water lines.

I’m feeling extra nostalgic about it today because I DON’T KNOW WHERE MY STICK IS! I think it’s somewhere in this office, but I don’t know exactly where… Dangit! And it’s my last one!

On a related note, MAC has an ironically LE collection out now called Throwbacks that contains colors they “disappeared” from their permanent line, some of which… I have no idea why… Like, why in the heck did they ever pull Uninterrupted Eye Shadow?

Why?

Or Kid??

Makes no sense to me…

Anyway, I’m feeling nostalgic this morning. One of the Throwback lipsticks is called Skew, and — oh, my gawd — I wore it so much back when El Hub and I first moved in together. *sniffs*

What would you bring back if you could?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

GIRL. LE things that I love are the bane of my existence.

Chanel Le Stylo Waterproof in Khaki Précieux
Chanel Le Volume Mascara in Khaki Bronzé
DiorShow Mascara in Mitzah (a bronzey color)
MAC Lipstick in Drive Me Wild from Fabulous Felines

ABH Mario palette. I am still upset that I was so indecisive about that palette. I should have snatched it up. I swatched it a few times in store and thought the shadows were just too soft so I passed. The eye looks I see made from that palette usually have me drooling. I should have bought it.

Hi! I have a brand new / in-box Mario palette I’ve never opened (bought it as a backup), if you’re interested!

Nyxx, sign up for GlamBot and keep an eye out (they sell gently used makeup after they sanitize it). I’ve seen it on there a couple of times.

Mac Haze!!!! Discontinued in 1996 and I swear I’ve been hunting it ever since. Cool murky green satin with a pink/violet pearl, it is the most unique eyeshadow I have ever seen, and there are NO DUPES for it!!! I’ve tried making it out of countless pigments and mixes but it’s never the same. Sigh.

MAC Hold the Pose and Courting Lilac lipsticks, French Grey eyeshadow.
Bourjois Beige Enigmatique eyeshadow. Armani blush #2 and #5 (violet beige)
I’ve never found dupes for any of these. And yes, Morgan-MAC Haze!

I’d bring back the Urban Decay Shadow Book for the Alice in Wonderland movie, so I could finally get my hands on it.

I can barely remember LE stuff. But the one thing I’d bring back is Tom Ford Enchanted eyeshadow quad. And maybe the bronzy one too, although I can’t remember the name of it.
You’re gonna be mad at me, but a few weeks ago I was paring down my collection and I tossed MAC Coffee because I never reach for it.

The original color that EL Double Wear Fresco used to be. It was my HG foundation until they revamped the shades. Never have found another match to replace its overall perfectness….. Revlon Colorstay in Fresh Beige is close but still….ugh.

Chanel rouge allure gloss in Affriolant. It was the BEST lip product I have EVER used! I could go on and on about it, it was perfect 🙁 I only bought the one, it broke, then I got an infection around my lips for nine months so I was waiting for that to be gone… Goes to buy one-gone. *sigh*
Also, Mac typographic and copperplate e/s. The best greys for my eye color and skin tone. Plus their formula was amazing. I never had it, but Mac bamboo seemed perfect but I’m pretty sure that one is gone too.

Ooooh coffee liner!!! Yes, that is a product who is sadly missed!! I’m sorry you still haven’t found yours, so frustrating! I also remember a few lipsticks from some limited edition collections back in the day I loved… A Rose Romance lipstick, Everhip and also Viva Glam Cyndi! I loved all of those and am sad I don’t have them anymore!!

I have a list a mile long. Wet n Wild Toasted Coconut lipstick, MAC Queen’s Sin lipstick, Jane Kiss of Caramel lipstick, Ultima II (all of it), L’Oreal Airwear foundation, Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon, Maybelline Great Wear lip liner in Spice… It’s never ending.

MAC Coffee liner…in a heart beat. That’s it. I have two pencils that are about 1/3 long and I am really hesitant to use them. Yes, I have two because I would by backups each time I went to the MAC store.

    COFFEE, RIP

I miss Keihls mascara. I loved this. Waterproof, easy to wash off, and my eyelashes were amazing. I had high hopes it had been discontinued in the US, but no–it’s gone everywhere. I even write to them 🙁

French Grey e/s and Empowered lipine, both MAC. Almost every nude lippie I’ve purchased since 2010 is an attempt to dupe MAC Empowered.

Tom Ford Burnished Amber Quad and Chanel Dragon. They were both discontinued RIGHT before I got into high end makeup, and it has been the bane of my existence. Sure I could pay $419 for the quad on ebay (uuuugggghhh) but I’m not going to. I will have to content myself with Honeymoon.
Also, ladies and gents, check your local area for a TCCS (The Cosmetics Company Store), it’s an overstock store for all Estee Lauder-owned brands. I see a lot of MAC LE and DC items there (the stores are usually in high-end outlet centers). It’s worth a drive to go to one. My local one always has amazing deals on perfume, skincare, makeup…definitely recommend.

The MAC perfume with the black cap. My favorite and the only dupe I’ve found is the Elizabeth and James in the (ironically enough) black bottle.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
