What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

July 19th, 2009 by Karen 49 Comments

My best: Being blown away by Lancome’s new blue bombshell, the Declaring Indigo collection for fall! Artliner in Indigo Charm, oh, how I love thee…

My worst: I’ve been rockin’ Medusa mane all weekend long. Yes, my hair’s been a frizzy, poofy, unruly mess, ugh! Thank goodness for black ponytail holders and headbands. 🙂

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Spill the beans in the comments.

two best palettes in my arsenal right now:
UD’s ‘Get Baked’ and NARS’ ‘Modern Love’
I have a feeling i’ll be alternating between these two the rest of the summer!

beauty boo-boo – I’m in need of a eyebrow and lip wax! hoping my lovely blended shadows will distract the stray hairs on my upper lip (not so cute!)

Yay! You just mentioned two of my favorite palettes of the moment. What are your favorite combos so far?

Hey Karen! Hope your week kicks off to an excellent start…

I am mad crazy in love with Makeup 4 Ever’s black kohl eyeliner. No smearing, smudging or migration. Its been over 100 in Kansas lately, so this is the only eyeliner I can use in my vast collection.

I had been doing really well, face-wise, but I broke out the other day! Nothing massive, but it sent me back in time to being 13 and perpetually fighting acne…

Hmm, are ya talking about their pencil, Aqua Eyes? I love those!

Sorry to hear about your breakouts. I’ve been dealing with a few pimples myself (stress and lack of sleep = zits).

My Best: Getting an awesome MUFE consultation at Sephora and learning that I COULD rock a bright green smokey eye; sorting through my eyeshadow and realizing I have like enough eyeshadow to last me a lifetime ALREADY… it`s got rid of my sometimes desire for back-ups!

My Worst: Forgetting to take an extra Reactine before getting my eyebrows waxed AND telling my esthetician that I am allergic to the skin stuff she uses afterwards… hives are not fun. They are starting to go away though!

I did my make up on Friday and Saturday night with Jest, Deep Truth and Black Tied by MAC and I have to admit, it was smokin’ hot.

Worst beauty experience was not actually getting to go out on either night and having to wash off all my hard (and beautiful) work. Argh.

Finally trying and buying benefit’s high beam is a definite ‘highlight’ to my week. Haha! In all seriousness, I’m pretty addicted to the product.

The lowlight.. Hmm…. Trying on creme blush and realising that I honestly don’t like the feel of having something sticky on my skin. That feeling doesn’t go away and I can’t just layer powder on top because it’s a BLUSH.

      Hi Emily,

Hmm, what cream blush did you try? They don’t always feel stick on the skin. It depends on the formula… I wear powder on top of mine all the time. Sometimes I even wear ’em on top of powder. If you need a few recommendations let me know!

I think my best beauty experience this week was figuring out that if I mix MAC’s Hue and Syrup lipsticks together and slicking some MAC Trifle lipglass on top I get the best pink ever to go with smokey eyes.

The worst was ending up with severely swollen eyes from an allergic reaction to Soap & Glory’s “The Fab Pore” 15 minute peel mask – not nice!

My best: was actually related to reading back on some of your blog texts, Karen, and you recommended someone to use a neutral brown with a pop of any colour. I tried that – used a neutral brown and Too Faced’s mono eyeshadow Label Whore – fab result 🙂

My worst: was using Rimmel’s infinite colour 140 hold up, which is a long-lasting lipcolour and discovering after 6 hours or so, that it caked up when I didn’t remember to reapply the gloss.

    hey karen!

best moment – having a hawt hawt intense smokey eye for salsa dancing.

worst moments – when said smokey eye caused massive amounts of tearing and smeared to make me look like a crackhead, thanks to the humidity, gallons of sweat (i was WET not just perspiring, literally, my hair was sopping), heat and sensitive eyes w contact lenses.

second bad part came the morning after, where my whole body broke out in massive hives! taking a claritin helped calm it, but i woke up scratching myself to death, and i was covered in HUUUUUGE welts all over my body.

i gave cha cha a bath for the first time on friday. needless to say the poor thing wasn’t too happy. yowled and went nuts! he actually managed to run away sopping wet, hiding under the bed. i teased him out with some tuna, and finished washing him. he was ok once i started drying him… but it was the saddest most distressing sound i’d ever heard!

My best beauty experience was after borrowing my friends Clinique face wash, noticing a definite improvement in my skin.

My worst was going to the Chanel counter and not being a huge fan of the clerk. I never know how to tell the clerk I prefer to browse without her hovering. This is why I go to a specific person at the MAC in Georgetown. Unfortunately, I don’t think she’d come with me to Chanel… 😉

Worst – This is more body than beauty but I saw my thighs in THE world’s worst mirror in a Sports Authority dressing room while trying on work out gear and almost melted inconsolably onto the floor in despair. Just horrific and it plagued me all weekend long, ugh.

Best: I found mac’s brave new bronze and sunsational lipsticks online. I wore them to work (on different days, of course) and they worked! I had to trick bnb into working for me, but it did. I put either gold rebel or the new chanel gold gloss on top of both. It was poppin’!

Worst: My brows are tragic. I tweezed them to death and so now I am drawing them on until they grow back in. Well, let’s just say that some days I’m an artist and some days it looks like I gave the brush to a hobo and told him to have a ball. Yeah. Not a good week for the brows.

Karen, I’m using makeup forever’s eyebrow corrector. I think it was sent to me by angels. I was using the too faced stencil set, but the last time I think I was just out of it and ended up with uneven brows. I had to basically pluck them off to even it out. It’s so funny now that I need to draw my brows on before I leave the house. They are so tiny now. Lol

Hope your Monday’s gone well! First the bad: who loves a good case of the icky-bloaties that comes with being a woman? I especially love the overwhelming feeling of fattiness. NOT FUN! And the good: you give such great advice on your blog (that I newly discovered and am TOTALLY addicted to! LOL) that I went in search of beauty events in my area. Just this past Saturday I attended a Meet the Artists Beauty Event at my Macy’s and had such fun. The best part?!? My MAC makeover!! I left with an awesome new look created especially for yours truly by those that are the great MAC artists, as well as a lovely MAC haul that included Technakohl eyeliner in Uniform and eyeshadow in Sumptuous Olive. On top of it, I was able to recreate the look at home, which is a huge feat for me! 🙂

Best: Running around in mascara and eyeliner….and no other eye makeup. I haven’t been able to do that in a loooooooooong while.

Best: My skin looked amazing all last week! And, when told I had to get ready for last-minute plans on Saturday (when I originally anticipated staying in), I managed to go from frizzy/frumpy/undone to hot/sexy/pulled together in about 10 minutes! I somehow threw on a full face of makeup PLUS a smoky eye in about 3 minutes, which I didn’t even realize was possible.

Worst: It’s waaaay hot and humid, and I can’t keep my bangs from staying straight… HATE COW LICKS!

No, not the Aqua Eyes. I love those, but they are a bit too creamy for this muggy weather… I get MEGA migration. This is just the Makeup 4 Ever Kohl Pencils. I think its a Sephora-only item? But anyhow, the staying power is excellent and supposedly it works really well on your waterline. I’m too afraid of eye-mold for that mess.

My best would be that I am feeling more confident in not wearing as much make up. I used to have to be all made up because I felt more secure that way but lately, the natural look has been winning over a more made up look.

Worst would be that I spilled my Bed Hair Manipulator gel all over my bathroom sink. So sticky and hard to clean up. Ugh!
