What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

November 1st, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

MY BEST:

With the move, I fell off the cardio wagon about a month ago, but I finally started exercising again this week. I think I already notice a difference. I’m sleeping better, my skin looks a little clearer, and I have more energy throughout the day. Yay for endorphins!

MY WORST:

Trying to make Lippmann Collection’s Funky Chunky nail lacquer look pretty. Seriously, what do you do with something that looks like glittery tar on your nails? Not a lot of options…

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. How was your Halloween? Did you OD on candy (damn snickers)? We got just a handful of trick or treaters and were about ready to put on jammies when the neighbors invited us to an impromptu block party next door. They were all nice people (had a fire pit going, beer, ice cream, good convo). It was a lot of fun. 🙂

Best: Not many, considering I am fighting a horribly nasty case of the flu. Before I fell ill, it was rocking MAC’s new Put a Spell on You Pink Lip Bag…makes my lips look unbelievably full and shiny.

Worst: Going to CVS yesterday to pick up a prescription feeling like death and looking even worse. I can’t believe I showed my face in public like that.

Best: doing all my friends makeup for halloween (were talking sparkly nudes to gold-green shadow) and making it look AMAZING haha i was rocking the bronze eyeshadow!

Worst: deciding to go to school without mascara on. juniors were asking me if i had been crying!

halloween was fab! how was yours karen?

      Hi Emma,

Mine was good! I just handed out candy to the kids and went to a block party with my new neighbors. 🙂

Best: it’s a small victory, but having the zit on my chin NOT evolve into a huge painful purple cyst, and instead having it calm down into jut a red spot, was probably the best thing that happened to me this week. (Dermatologist on Thursday! Finally!)

Worst: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion has somehow stopped working for me, and I came home from working 11 hours on Friday to a creasy, blotchy Sumptuous Olive mess on my lids. It used to hold up beautifully! I don’t know what happened.

    Best:
My friend got me a Pink Grapefruit Labello! It’s rocking my lips with the sweet scent and pink gloss.

    Worst:
Reacting badly to a new retinoid cream I added to my regime! My skin got so thin from one application and was angry and red. And somehow all of my skincare regime irritated it, even Cetaphil. Not even aloe vera cooled it down. And after a late night I woke up at noon (it’s the weekend! *defensively*) I found that I forgot to draw the curtains and my face actually got sunburnt!

Best: Getting my Illamasqua stuff from the Sephora FF discount and LOVING it all!

Worst: I had 2 pairs of fangs for my costume and neither would work. I ran out of the putty to mold them. So I went to 3 places yesterday to try and get some fangs, but everything was either sold out or (at Target) the Christmas stuff had already taken over! So I winded up not dressing up last night 🙁

We still did our “haunted garage” though and scared tons of kids (and adults) 🙂

      Hi Kelly,

What a bummer about the fangs! I guess vampires were popular this year.

      There’s always next year, right?

Best: Scoring the Sephora F&F sale in stores! I hauled NARS Cheyenne and Brazil eyeshadow duos. I had previously ordered NARS Brousse and Taiga eyeshadows. Also, yesterday on Halloween I was complimented on my bright red lipstick (Maybelline Color Sensation in Very Cherry)!

Worst: Using MAC Red Chromaline on my eyes as eyeliner. It’s not eyesafe. My eyes are itchy and swollen now, sigh.

Best: Using DDF’s sulfur mask, which helped calm and clear up my face a ton. I haven’t had such good skin since…I was 10, four years ago, lol.

Worst: I’ve realized that my hair loses volume really quickly with both Fekkai and Ojon shampoos unless I shower half-an-hour before bed and sleep with it slightly wet. 🙁

Also, I left you a comment about this on the Lippmann polishes, but in case you didn’t see it: A few nail polish bloggers suggest using one coat of a creme black polish then layering Funky Chunky over it, so that the hexagons don’t sink. Have you tried that?

      Hi Pinksoysauce,

I did see it. I might try it if I have the patience… right now I’m all about Chanel Jade, ha ha!

I can say if there is anything significantly best or worst, but best would be my skin finally starting to clear up from the horrible breakout from two weeks ago. I tried OPI Suede Nail Lacquers and liked it.

Worst: I have one little white head popped up yesterday that looks like it may look worst by the end of the day or next day.

Best: I finally placed the order on Sephora.com for the FF sale. I’m so excited!

Worst: Running out of eye makeup remover. I kept forgetting to buy a new one, so at the end of the day I would just use soap, which totally dried out my eyes and didn’t even remove most of my makeup! So I ended up with raccoon eyes for a few days 😛

Best: finding out I still know how to handle my 210 brush for a fierce cat liner ^^

Worst: mmm, didn’t really have a bad beauty experience this week… Odd.

Best: With your post on finally getting the great glitter eyeliners in the back of my mind, I picked up Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Eyeliner on Friday in Mullet, to wear for Halloween on top of my black liquid eyeliner. However, I ended up trying it out just on top of the UD eye shadow Sin that I got at the same time and it looked fan-freakin’-tastic! Now I wanna wear it every single day! So I, ahem, got them in Metalhead (lovely cold purple) and Baked too, all three shades make my bluegrey eyes pop! YAY! Part-ay on my upper lashline! (Hmm, think I’ve had too much Halloween chocolate..!)

Oh, and The Body Shop’s Lightening Touch works wonder for my dark circles.

Worst: For Halloween last night, I wore fake lashes for the first time and with a ton of black liquid eyeliner and ugh, by the end of the night I could not wait to get it all off and work a softer look. One not including glue of any sort, haha.

Best: all the epic makeup I did for Halloweening.

Worst: not getting a single decent picture of it.

I love impromptu neighbor parties! Those might be the best kind.

Best: taking advantage of the Sephora’s FF SALE!
Worst: for the past 2 wks, I’ve been having good skin-days. I had a teeny tiny non-pimple bump that you couldn’t even see, but I happened to have seen it in a moment of bad lighting in a dressing room. If I had left it alone, it would’ve gone away…I’m sure of it. However, I messed with it…and made it turn into a monster. So now, I have a big mess. BLAH!

OH, and oops, forgot the very best thing of all! My friend has gone back to Canada (we live in England, although I’m from Sweden) and she asked me if I wanted to place a Sephora order with her! Can I get a hell yes?! So I’ve apologised profusely for my list of goodies. So excited! Hope you had an awesome Sunday Karen!

Best: Going back to work after being sick so long & getting amazing comments on my smokey eye look….SCORE!

Worst: having to put off a pedicure for two weeks I sliced the edge of my foot and now have to wait while it heals.

    worst:

Best: Two things: Getting my hair fixed on Friday. My roots were about 3 weeks overdue. Terrible! Second, I took a bubble bath in Philosophy Peppermint Hot Cocoa, slathered my face in Lush Cupcake and then once I was done I used Jaqua Marshmallow Cocoa Body Butter. It was chocoholic heaven with zero calories! 😉

Worst: Smudging my nails in the process of doing them. I had to restart while I was running late.

Worst: getting aforementioned eyeshadow in my eye.

I don’t know if this will be a best or worst yet, but I took my new drivers license photo Friday. I read what you wrote a couple of years ago and did the best I could 🙂 I HOPE it went well! I won’t know for several weeks . . . I did, of course, manage to make my appts backwards – AFTER I took the new photo, I had a hair appointment. *sigh*

My worst was when I found Urban Decay eyeshadow pots at Winners & they were swatched! They were only $5 too 🙁
…. My best happened today when I bought the C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve 🙂 I am really liking it so far.

Best: Cleaning out my dresser and finding a blending brush in one of the drawers! I must have dropped it in there on accident many weeks ago. I nearly cried when I thought it was missing!

Worst: Not having enough time to repaint my nails and having a friend call me out on it. It did look pretty ugly. HAHA!

Best: mom coming home with the giant sample box from Macy’s and giving more than half of them to me. Hooray Clarin’s and Shiseido moisturizer, right when I needed them most! (sooo dry down here in SoCal)

Worst: Realizing my fake eyelash glue was at least 2 years old and having to make do with regular lashes (and lots of liner) for Halloween

My Halloween was great! Went as Alice in Wonderland, first time in 3 years I’ve had a new costume to wear. 🙂 And I’m super proud of myself for only having one mini bag of Skittles. Of course, I did have several cups of boozy punch at the party, but who’s counting? 😉

MY BEST: Made up an exam I thought I did really bad on, but actually did pretty good. Also, I started working out again this week, so I feel pretty good about that too 😀

MY WORST: I got into an accident on Tuesday (hit and run, my car was actually parked) and it totaled my car. Had the minimum insurance so it did not cover any damages. I junked it, and ended up using that money to pay for the tow and storage fees. Yeah, my worst sucked.

I’m trying to stay positive and trying to look on the bright side!

Halloween was laid back for me and my fiance. We don’t get trick or treaters so we just stayed home and vegged out.

My Best Beauty Moment This Week: Decided to wear a strong lip (normally I’m a clear or tinted lipgloss kind of girl) I decided to sport my Black Amythst Lipgloss from Bath and Body. I got hit on 3 times that day! I think the bolder lip was the reason = )

My Worst Beauty Moment This Week: My unkept eyebrows and chin hairs sprouting out of my chin. I need to wax!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
