What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

September 13th, 2009 by Karen 38 Comments

MY BEST:

Playing with some goodies from NARS and falling hard for the Kalahari Eyeshadow Duo, Orgasm/Laguna Duo and Powder Foundation SPF 12 in Sahara (LOVE! Small red heart Review coming soon). Oh, the fine textures and rich color payoff … NARS is the bomb-diggit-haaaaay!

MY WORST:

While I was giving myself a pedicure last week I discovered a few random hairs on the tops of each foot. I was kickin’ it hobbit-style, yo! 🙂 There were only like five or six hairs — all short and soft — but still. Does this mean I have to start shaving my feet??

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Do tell in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Are you ready for the True Blood season finale tonight? It’s the last new one for months! I feel like I should be doing something special for he occasion. Maybe I’ll open a bottle of wine…

I love Kalahari too! I think my best beauty related experience was the purchasing of MAC Style Snob. I wore it to a show last night and I loved it. It’s a very unique color in my opinion. My worst: my pedicure, which I slaved over and hurt my back while doing, chipped in like, a day. Lame.

Best: Pre-pooing and using my brand new Aveda paddle brush – my curls look great!

Worst: There was a bristle missing from the brush! And the store is a bit of a hike so I won’t be returning it.

    Karen,
Not watching True Blood…waiting for it on DVD. Watching MTV VMA’s and it’s crazy….I love it!!!

BEST: I switched from Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser to the Cetaphil bar which I LOVE!!! My face feels clean not stripped. YAY!!

WORST: My hair is in need of trimming…enough said.

Best – I got a manicure this week & finally found a red color that looks good with my skintone. Using Essie’s Really Red. Love it!

Worst – i got the worst haircut of my life on Tuesday. You can read all about it here – http://www.galsguide.com/gals-guide/2009/9/11/a-lesson-learned-the-hard-way.html#comments

I just watched True Blood. So may things to say about it but I won’t. Where did you get that bottle? Me likey!

Aww, that foot thing sucks 🙁 But I wouldn’t worry your pretty little head over it!! Thick hairs on feet = not very common, lol!

Best: finding an Essie kit for $5. Minis of two polishes (Bordeaux and Ballet Slippers), cuticle oil, base coat, topcoat, AND hand creme. Sheer awesomeness.

Worst: I’m having, quite literally, the worst breakout I’ve ever experienced… and have no idea why!!

Hey Karen! Wouldn’t worry about those hairs. No biggie. I had them before, got them waxed because they bothered me to the extreme. Never saw them again, ever 🙂

Best experience? Maybelline Pulse Perfection mascara. In love.

Worst experience? Bare Escentuals. Aw man.

BEST: My makeup looks were pretty good this week 😛 I’m getting better at applying eyeshadow.

WORST: I’m still ticked about the crappy customer service at a MAC Pro Store last weekend, and a Clinique counter this weekend.

Best: Finding out that I *can* use liquid liner, even though I have crepe-y eyelids, so long as I use UDPP first! I tried it using UD Stash, and then another day with Maybelline Lash Stiletto liner, and it worked!!

Worst: I don’t know if this counts . . . but it’s by far the worst thing this week. I went and exchanged some new mascara for the waterproof version because of something that happened involving a student I know. Next week will be really difficult at school with a lot of crying, and I’m going to have to hold it together to try and help the kids.

Hahaha Karen I was just going to post about falling in love with Nars!

Best: Discovering Nars and my perfect shade of red, Indian Red lipstain. I may have to stock up!
Worst: Nothing major, just did a hella bad job shaving my legs last night. Thankfully the weather is cool enough where it’s not unbearable to wear pants!

Best = I bought the Lancome Hypnose mascara on Saturday. It’s a bit intense for me, but fun for when I’m in the mood for dramatic lashes.

Worst = I got a freaking mosquito bite on my face — a REALLY large one. It looks like a giant zit. It takes forever to get ready because I have to work some serious make up magic to conceal it! Luckily, it’s starting to go away, which is good, because I was getting tempted to take a hacksaw to it.

      Hi L,

Sorry to hear about the mosquito bite. When I get them they blow up to the size of my fist (no kidding), so I feel your pain.

I’m glad you liked the Hypnose, though. Did you get the original one or the Drama version?

Best: After months of breaking out, my face is finally healing and is becoming smooth and bump free again. Hopefully, I don’t break out again.

Worst: Although Retin A micro has helped cleared my face, i still have some redness and scarring from my major bout of breakout. Hopefully it heals soon.

I just finished watching Season 1 of True Blood and I am hooked! Now I just need to wait for the Season 2 DVDs! Or try to find episodes on the Internet.

Best: The wedding I attended last Saturday with my Mom in Intramuros (Old Manila) – I did my own makeup and it came out perfectly. Lasted the whole night, too!

Worst: Beauty was the least of my problems last week (boo)… but if I had to pick one, I’d call it for the dog smell on my clothes, since our old guy has been sick for a while. Luckily for the rest of us, he’s been healthy enough to get a nice bath over the weekend. Finally!

Oh Karen, you crack me up EVERY day. You’re so funny! I’ve always had a problem with getting raccoon eyes from eyeliners (even using the cult fav Make Up Forever liner)…then it dawned on me the other day that I should just use an eyeshadow primer (I don’t usually wear e/s…like to keep things really simple right now). I had a few samples of Urban Decay’s new primer (the one that has colors, have you tried those? What d’ya think?) and Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I started using the Shadow Insurance…and….I didn’t get raccoon eyes! (Eyeshadow primer, where have you been my entire life?!?!)

No worst experience that I can think of 🙂

      Hi Sleepy,

That’s great! Primer is an amazing thing — it even works beneath things like concealer and brow powder, too.

Have you tried Urban Decay’s Sin Potion Primer? I heart it!

Best – mixing cream eyeshadows to get the perfect shade, rather than purchasing new ones.

Worst – leaving a peel on too long last night and suffering from blotchy red skin today.

Best: Getting my hair done. Nothing looks better than fresh highlights!

Worst: My workout sneakers just aren’t right, and after an intense gym session last week, I realized my big toenail cracked in half horizontally. Not only was it right after a new pedicure (doesn’t it always happen that way?), but it’s seriously bothering me because you can see a distinct crack in the polish.

This has never happened before…can I Krazy Glue it in place or something? The last thing I want is for it to break off completely.

Thanks for asking, Karen! DogMei is actually doing better – the vets diagnosed him with all sorts of infections (heart AND digestive tract), so he was very weak for a while. Now he’s back to being his old self – he’s walking upright (though I still can’t take him out for morning walks until further notice) and his appetite is back to normal. I also found that wrapping his meds in “people food” (like white bread, or a piece of fish) is much easier than forcing pills down his throat… though I still have to do that whenever he spits out a pill after eating his snack. But otherwise, he’s good! 🙂

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
