What Were Your Best and Worst Beauty Experiences of the Week?

August 30th, 2009 by Karen 24 Comments

MY BEST:

Discovering how great Too Faced Shadow Insurance works as an eyebrow powder base. The stuff *really* puts a lock down on color and holds up well to sweat. So far I’ve only worn it to workouts, but I bet it’ll represent when I get my dance/sweat on at the club.

MY WORST:

I learned the importance of adequate sleep to successful at-home eyebrow waxing. Yes, it was my first time, but I think lack of sleep was a bigger factor. Now half of my left eyebrow is totes MIA!

What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Spill the beans in the comments.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Karen,
Thanks for your reviews of products by Too Faced. I’ve seen them at Beauty Brands and I’ve been curious. Will def check ’em out.

    BEST
The MAC Noteriety eye palette is awesome. I like that they are neutral colors with sparkle. Great over top of Painterly Paint Pot.

    WORST
My roots are in need of a SERIOUS touchup but the whole process takes 4 hours. EEek! Oh and my eyebrows need some work. Geesh they grow so fast!!

    best
doing an AWESOME leopard-print eye look inspired by the MAC style warrior collection (see it here http://lareinarumbera.blogspot.com/2009/08/eye-of-day-fierce-leopard.html).

    worst
skin started freaking out and looking dull. then, on friday night, i overdosed on eyebrow corrector and had to scrub it out and re-do it, twice!

Best? Discovering an *amazing* makeup brand that I’d never heard of before here in Argentina. It has hella awesome pigments, and I found out I have a discount, woo!
Worst? Finding that my new Maybelline shadow doesn’t apply as well to the lids as it swatches, darn. I’m *gonna* make it work!

Non beauty related, the best was getting my drivers license, yipee! =) I hope you had a great weekend too. Actually, I hope everyone did!

Best: Getting around to waxing. Damn, I forgot how great it feels to be less hairy. And discovering some of the Avon quads I ordered are actually REALLY great.

Worst: My skin acting totally whacko b/c either ‘that time of the month’ or the sweat and heat this past week.

Gotta give you props for getting through the eyebrow fiasco and still looking bangin’

Best: My incredible Paul and Joe makeover at the counter at Bergdorf Goodman in NYC – best makeover I’ve ever had. The counter manager was just too sweet, and the new Fall eyeshadow duos are incredible.

Worst: The Paul and Joe counter was out of stock on a couple of items I wanted! =( Also I went a couple of days barefaced because I was running late to work.

I’ve had really unfortunate looking eyebrows, good luck with growing yours in!

Best: Trying Orly Nail Rescue for the 2nd time and actually doing well! It’s glue + powder which could = messy but hopefully will just help my nails get stronger.

Worst: Another week of absolutely NO LIP PRODUCT except for shea butter. These weird reactions are bumming me out and need to stop pronto.

    Have a great week Karen!

Best: Getting my hands on the manish arora blush in devil. I wasn’t into any makeup besides gloss when this came out. I haven’t worn it yet, but I can’t wait to play with it.

Worst: It seems my upper lip hairs sneak up on me and grow within minutes. Just as I was running out the door one morning, I realize the right side of my upper lip had some hairs I swore I removed. Freaky.

    Best:
Testing all the fall collctions that are arriving here 😀 And hauling a bit!
    Worst:
My skin is in preety bad shape. I’m stressed because of my papers and I can’t stop picking and touching my face, so it’s getting worse 🙁
Did you like San Sebastian? It’s a very beautiful city!

    Best:
Cutting down my talons so I could rock this awesome neon green polish. Looks less garish, lol.

    Worst:
Trying to save a dollar by switching to the Olay Daily Facials wipes instead of buying my trusty Neutrogena wipes. My skin did not appreciate the switch and it shows 🙁

    Best:

Coming up with my favorite look so far: golden copper monochrome lids, a beige highlight on the inner corners and brows, and navy blue cat liner. It ROCKED!

Worst: Not having my smudger with me when I did the blue cat eye. The lower lashline was just a tad too unblended for my taste.

    Hi Karen!

Worst? I got a blemish on my jawline. You know, the ones that hurt? Ouchies.

Best? That blemish went away in a couple of days. Phew.

Driving was great yesterday! So much better and easier I made it out to be all those years, but, shhhh! Don’t tell anyone I said that!

BEST : Going crazy with all my new fall looks from the GAP. That and truly rockin’ pink.

WORST : Decided to try said pink lipstick as a cheek stain.. with less than fab results. It pretty much clumped and smeared all over my face and I was stuck in public without make up remover.

Best: I finally got my pedicure!! I didn’t get one the whole summer, I don’t know why.

Worst: I tried this aqua and gold look on my eyes and it totally bombed, way too much sparkle

Best: Toss up between blogging about the Jo Malone Kohdo collection and FINALLY making it to MAC to get the Photo Realism quad.

Worst: One of my dogs scratched my eye and now it’s all swollen and I can’t wear my Photo Realism quad yet!

BEST: Toss up! #1: Finally getting my hands on Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Metallic cream shadows and having them be better than expected. #2: Getting what was one of the best eyebrow-shapings ever during a waxing at the spa.

WORST: A self-tanning session gone awry left my new eyebrows unattractively darkened, along with stains all along my hairline that concealer is just not covering up.

Best: Using all pigments as eyeshadow for my FOTD, normally I have to mix loose eyeshadows with solid eyeshadows, but somehow this time using all pigments worked for me. Everything seem to blend pretty well.

Worst: I was desperate to get rid of two pimples on my cheeks so I used both Retin A micro and hydrocortisone cream on it throughout the day from about 3 days. Good news is that the pimples are gone, but I was peeling and majorly blotchy and red on my right cheek. But I am all better now, no redness, flakes or pimples. From now I would just stick with Retin A micro nightly as stated by the instructions!

Best: Would have been that I have been taking the time to do my make up in the mornings. I was doing a pretty simple look out of sheer lazyness (who can resist an extra 15 minutes of sleep).

Worst: breaking out after waxing. I usually apply some boo boo zap and this time I forgot. Blah!

    My best:
Must be using the Kiehl’s Over-Night Biological Peel!! I tried it for the 1st time, at the beginning of the week and the next day, found my skin to be oily and clusters of ‘oil seeds’ appearing on my cheeks. But almost 1 week later, I got complimented by a Lancome SA that my skin looked better and better each time she met me….and that’s the only thing that’s new to my skincare regime.

    My worst:
At first, I thought it was the Kiehl’s Biological Peel but now I realized it’s just my skin initial reaction to the peeling effect….:) once the initial reaction has passed….voila….better skin! 😀 Other than that, can’t recall any unpleasant beauty experience.

My best & worst beauty experiences were actually one and the same event – going to the hair salon & getting my Posh bob haircut, which has unbelievably thickened my very fine hair….AND finding out the COST at the cash register….AAAGH!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
