MY BEST:
Rediscovering MAC’s creamy Groundwork Paint Pot ($16.50) eyeshadow. I’ve had it for years but sorta forgot about it until this week, when I wore it as a base for the purples in the Stacked 1 Crush Metal Pigments. I think the rich taupe and matte finish really contrast well with S1’s vibrant violet. LOVE IT!
MY WORST:
Brushing my hair last night I realized I can no longer get away with going five months between hair colorings. Gone are the days when I could easily hide a few gray roots because the few have turned into a full-on gray invasion!
What were your best and worst beauty experiences of the week? Please share yours in the comments.

Best-trying out Josie Maran’s new palette. Love the shades. they all looked so purdy on my tan skin
worst-trying out a new moisturizer that gave me a zit.

Best moment was discovering Laura Mercier’s eye pencil in Black Turquoise. I used Chanel’s Variations quad on my lids and lined my eyes with the black turquoise. I’s not bright at all. It’s very subtle with the emphasis being on the word Black; not Turquoise. It brought out the green in my hazel eyes.
Worst moment was trying a new eye cream which made my eyelids flake. Not a pretty picture!

Best: Finding an auto eyeliner that works so well I’m keeping it as a staple!
Worst: Waking up with bad hair and not being able to remedy it as I was late for work 😛

Best: trying out foiling for the first time using a mixing medium, and having it work beautifully! I turned a dull shimmery taupe colour into the prettiest disco ball yet slightly neutral eye 😀
Worst: being too lazy to wash my hair for a couple of days while I was hanging around the house. It looked so disgusting.

Stef says
Best: new round of products to review, so I have 13 new lip products right now. Hooray! My lip gloss lovin’ self is very pleased.
Worst: I need a haircut so badly I could cry. My ends look like they went through a paper shredder. And I don’t have a hair dresser at the moment. Woe…it is me.
.-= Stef’s last blog post… Jo Malone Red Roses Fragrance Chronicle =-.
Celine says
Best: I tried Peter Thomas Roth salicylic acid/glycolic acid max complexion correction pads. My skin is looking more luminous after a week, and it dries up pimples overnight! Best part is, they don’t make me peel!
Worst: I had heard great things about L’Oreal’s HIP eyeliners and I tried one. Scratched my eyelids! Ugh!
.-= Celine’s last blog post… maravi: Gamestop is text messaging me. Bioshock 2 is being released Tuesday. So. Excited. Can’t say I’m getting it at 12:01am tho. =-.

Celine!
As you might’ve read I have a golf ball sized blemish on my forehead (seriously, it’s huge and distracting. No lies!) so I thought I’d look up your best beauty tip of the week – SOLD OUT! Shoot!
I’m always so late to the game!
Celine says
You can try the gentle one, they have 0.5% salicylic acid instead of 2% but is a good bet especially if you have sensitive skin!
.-= Celine’s last blog post… maravi: Busy day, but that’s ok. =-.
Hyzenthlay says
Bests: Getting better at Temptalia’s Golden Berry look, figuring out that Vanilla pigment can be used as a sub for Cuddle shadestick (color-wise, at least), figuring out that UD Underground shadow is close enough to the light color in the NARS Kalahari duo that I don’t need to buy it . . .
Worst: Getting three zits because of the stress from the week, ugh!
Lucy says
Best: Rediscovering Bourjois lip stains, I love them!
Worst: Label.M Resurrection Dust – strange and gluey substance to add volume to hair at the roots, not very nice at all.
.-= Lucy’s last blog post… Label.M Resurrection Style Dust – Review =-.

Best – finding a liquid makeup (MAC’s Select SPF 15) which wears well and doesn’t make me feel like I have to scrub my face hours after I apply. And NC20 is a really good match for my skin tone……WHO KNEW?
Worst – my skin deciding that it’s had it with this too cold weather here in the NE. I have been flake-CITY this weekend…..my skin feels like the desert!!
Steph B says
Best– Being snowed in all weekend meant plenty of time to deep condition my hair, give myself a manicure with a lot of cuticle tlc, and rehab my neglected feet.
Worst — The dry, cold air has turned my face into major desert. I’ve been slathering on lotion but that has aggravated some zits. Time to up the fluid intake and run the humidifier.
marisol says
Best – my new concealer by TheBalm. That shiz is da bomb! Worked so awesome especially on Monday when i really needed it. I think I found my HG under eye concealer. Muchas gracias for the recommendation & review!
Worst – while getting ready for work on Friday morning, I dropped my sample jar of Deckchair pigment all over myself. Thankfully I have a full size container of it but it was not the best way to start my morning.

Best? Getting an exfoliator that works.
Worst? This zit on my forehead is so swollen, I have a golf ball sized bump. Seriously.

Best: new haircut – same style, but hair looks instantly better.
Worst: Haaaay pink eye

BEST: Tried out the Kuala Lumpur eyeshadow duo at the NARS counter and bought the Purple Rain nailpolish
Worst: My skin feels very dry, but at least I am not breaking out.

Best: trying violet eyeshadow as a blush and loving it =D
Worst: honey + egg hair mask = bad idea! I love what the egg did to my hair (helloooo, shine city!) but the honey made it super hard to wash out 🙁

Hi Karen!
Best: doing a really cool orange-y eyeshadow that looked awesome with Springsheen blush.
Worst: My hair is a frizzball recently…don’t know what to do about it!

Best – mai burfday haul! My friends got me the cutest little train case with an eyeshadow palette and lip gloss from Sephora. D’awww. And I got KVD’s Memento Mori palette, but I haven’t touched it yet because it’s so pretty. Haha.
Worst – I’m breaking out into little zits around my lips. Ugh, whyyy?

My best: Testing nail polishes from Orly Bloom and Sweet Spring collection…I really adore them.
My worst: I have a naughty pimple that won’t go away 🙂

Best: I got an order from Ulta and I’m looking forward to playing with my new goodies. I’ve heard great things about Stila’s Topaz liner (from this site!) so I had to give it a shot.
Worst: I got a GIANT zit on my chin. I usually get tiny ones, but this one was huge. It’s luckily now much smaller, but it was really bad for a day or two. Someone told me, “Don’t worry, Lauren — it just looks like a spider bite!” Oh, thanks, that makes me feel a LOT better. Similarly, next time I complain to you about my under eye circles, be sure to tell me that it simply looks like I got punched in the face. Grrr, lol.
Ditte K. says
Best: Rediscovering nude eye-looks (been going to the wild side lately).
Worst: Putting on a salmon-colored eyeshadow that creased immediately (withing 2 minutes) in spite of shadow insurance primer and it also looked scaly. And when I removed it, my eyes were irritated the rest of that day.
kitty says
best: totally nailing a super-bold 80s/space-age look (full-on blue e/s with blue glitter e/l, neon pink l/s, and cheek to match the lips!)
worst: realizing what a bad idea it was to put off my hair-colouring appointment… oops~

My best
Attended Elizabeth Arden White Glove Extreme and got a chance to try the entire range before the general public. Fun interaction and learned loads of things!
My worst
Saw how my the back of my hair looks like. Layering really looks horrendous when everything keeps ‘poppin’ up despite trying to straighten it earlier. No thanks to the rain!

groundwork is my favorite paintpot. the only other i have is rollickin so not like i have a bunch of experience. i bought them both from a CCO and like you, i kind of ignored groundwork until 2010. now im using it as a base over too faced shadow insurance almost daily.

I have two BEST beauty experiences:
First is getting the hang of using the Fekkai Ironless Straightening Balm. The first week I used it I think I put on too much and my hair took forever to dry.
Second is rediscovering Nars Mekong eyeshadow that has sat in my drawer neglected — did a cute look using Mekong and Silent Night that even the Hubs liked.
The WORST would be — I think my meds for the cough are making me break out. I have three tiny zits on my face – the kind that take forever to go away. Dangit.
Heya Karen and Tabs – its a Monday, back to the grind!!! Have an awesome week!!!

Best: Getting my first haul of Rescue Beauty Lounge nail polish and being incredibly impressed with one of the shades (Sheer Pink): beautiful, goes on like a dream, makes my fugly nails look good and hasn’t chipped in 4 days.
Worst: Realizing that the other shade I ordered (Sweet 16) is NOTHING like it appeared on the website (opaque, practically white and so loaded with shimmer it practically blinded me) and now I have the huge pain in the ass of getting a return authorization, packing it up, schlepping to the UPS store, ad nauseum. Usually I can let a bum online purchase slide, but $18 is too much to let go of.

BEST:
Stumbling upon that buy 2 get 1 free e/s at the MAC counter at my local Nordstrom: I am loving my Girlie, Creme de Violet and Sumptuous Olive. MY sister hooked me up with her Sweet Sienna pigment…can’t wait to try that one out tomorrow. Yes, GROUNDWORK is my current paint pot. I’ve been wearing it religiously since a MAC M/A used it on me couple weeks back.
Worse:
all of my jeans are getting tighter in the wasteband….it’s official…going back to Weight Watchers next payday…BOO!

oh one last BESTIE:
Got OPI new color: Jade is the new Black – my favorite color right now. Sorry I couldn’t get into the minty Jade color that everyone loves. The OPI Jade is a darker green – like a darker Jade stone…love it and it looks great on my darker skin tone!

I believe my best was rediscovering my MAC “Fashion Mews” lipstick. I used to wear it all the time with Chanel “Astral” glossimer. They look great together.
The worst beauty experience I’ve had this week was trying to use up my Laura Mercier moisturizing foundation. I absolutely can’t stand it, it feels like there is so much product on my face. I was unable to return it though, and I hate throwing away $42 worth of foundation.

Best: getting a sonicare toothbrush! I love the thing. This counts as beauty, right? 🙂
Worst: my skin (esp my legs) is in terrible condition! so soooo dry 🙁

Best – My new shampoo and conditioner combination – LOVE and Neutrogena tone correcting serum all I can say is WOW
Worst – The random pop up pimples just when I think I have my skin under controll.

Best: Combining MAC Platinum pigment, MAC Cinderfella MES and Carbon for one super sultry silver smoky black and blue eye look 😉
Worst: Realizing I need to replace my old MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack. I think it’s dried out. :-/

BEST: SO bought me NARS Sin and the MAC 188 for our 3rd anniversary (I picked them out and sent him to Nordie’s with a shopping list but he apparently parsed it “MAC one eight eight dual fiber face brush” and “NARS powder ‘Blush in Sin'” so both he and the poor MA were so confused lol. They figured it out in the end though) and I got an awesome haircut!
WORST: Stupid cystic acne still won’t go away. ;_;

BEST: I tried ELF mattifying papers and boy do they work! they really do a good job! plus, they really are a steal! And I had time for a nice, bright colourful makeup on saturday. Cool!
WORST: I had an allergy breakout on my face… Lots of itchy bumps! And it’s time I cut my hair! I’ll go next friday though.

Hi Karen, this is off topic, but I love!! your cartoon banners like the one here, could you please tell me what program you used to make it? I love drawing and would like to create some of my own graphics. I’m a stay at home mom, this might help bring out my creativity! Thanks. Your blog always make me smile 🙂
Karen says
Hi Kristen,
This particular one is stock photography I purchased for use on the blog, but for the ones I draw myself I use the programs in Adobe Creative Suite IV — mainly Photoshop and now sometimes Illustrator too. Mostly, everything I do with graphics is possible with Photoshop. I don’t know what you’re experience is, but if you’re just starting out with computer graphics, Photoshop Elements is a good place to start. Hope this helps. 🙂 http://bit.ly/97e5wy
