I got to thinking about this after listening to Lizzo’s Good as Hell on repeat for 2,467 hours. In it she says, “I do my hair toss, check my nails, baby how you feeling? Feeling good as hell.”
Oh, yeah. When my hair is done, and my nails are nice, I definitely feel more together. 😊
Other things that help me feel like I have some control over life: plucked brows and a waxed ‘stash, wearing ironed clothes/clothing that isn’t wrinkled, tamed cowlicks, and curled lashes coated with mascara!
How about you? What helps you feel “put together”?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
An outfit that involves jeans instead of leggings paired with something other than what was sitting at the top of my closet, and makeup. If I know I’m not going anywhere I will lounge at home in some questionable outfits and not a stitch of makeup, but I always feel better when I’m dressed and made up a bit!
Yes, Rachel! I totally get where you’re coming from. I have to change out of my pajamas first thing in the morning otherwise I’ll end up just crawling back into bed!
A solid one and a 1/2 hour of yoga practice (ashtanga) before sunrise. Pretty much anything after that is golden, whether my toenails need polish or my hair is whack. 😀
Oh, that must be a lovely way to get your day started. I’ve discovered that I’m now a morning exerciser. I still work out in the afternoon because that’s the only window I have and if I don’t do it then it doesn’t get done at all. But if I had my choice I’d knock it out before the sun came up!
Nails and brows, for sure! I recently got a pedicure on a whim, and I feel like a new woman. When your feet live in boots for five months out of the year, those claws get neglected.
Totally get you! I desperately need a pedicure. Need to get in there and make that happen!
Putting brow makeup on, having washed, moisturizer, etc, mascara, and cleaning my glasses 😂
That reminds me, I have to clean my Kate Spades, LOL! Thanks for the reminder and happy Friday!
Winged eyed liner and some great jewelry. I like feeling a little glam rock. 🙂
Yes, winged liner! Even a baby wing makes a big difference!
Freshly styled hair, nails done, skin glowy (skincare and highlighter baby!), and actually putting on clothes that are not sweats or workout gear, even if I am not leaving the house that day. It’s weird how much that can change your mindset.
Hi Kellie,
With you on the clothes that are *not* sweats. I’ve found that if I want any chance at having a productive day I need to get immediately out of my pajamas first thing in the morning and put on real clothes (like a bra!).
Wearing something besides yoga pants and whatever oversized tee is lying around. Putting on shoes (even just my Sketchers or some cute flops), earrings, and perfume. Having my hair in a bob helps, because I have to do a little something to it, although it’s super easy. I can’t just messy bun and go. (I am not one of those people who are cute with a messy bun. I look like I gave up with a messy bun.)
Hi Suzanne,
I think that it’s awesome that you have a cute bob that makes you feel good that doesn’t take a lot of time. The thought of a low-maintenance bob is so foreign to me, because when I’ve had that style in the past it was always a lot of work and I ended up tying my hair back anyway, go figure. Love me a cute bob though! I was just looking at pictures of Dua Lipa last night and getting the itch to chop my hair.
Lipstick always makes me feel and look I did something extra!
Hi Kate,
Amen to that!
Bare minimum is a washed face, tamed brows, clean hair, clothes that don’t have holes and a real bra. I set the bar where it needs to be. 😉
Stepping it up incrementally would be all of the above and some mascara, my hair down and some earrings. A face of makeup and my hair done is even better though!
Hi Jade,
OMG, a real bra! YES! I have to put one on first thing in the morning (seriously, like right when I roll out of bed) otherwise it’s too tempting to get back underneath the covers and fall back asleep. It seriously is the key to productivity. 🤣
I feel put together when I look thin in an outfit . When my nails are done right . When my makeup is in spot . When my hair is blown out . I can never do it right myself but niece ( hairdresser ) does it right ! If it’s not raining ☔️ it will last two days then I have to wash it again and start over !
Hi Michele,
How nice that your niece does your hair! How long has she been a stylist?
Girl, I’m lucky I get in the shower! Your question made me think of the glory days before kids. If face and hair done are a given, then having a watch and earrings on made me feel finished. I hated when I’d forget either of them. After kids, I had to prioritize what was a must-do. Then those darn kids wore me down! Your post made me resolve to get back to the glory days! 😉
I feel you, Lynne. Before I had Connor Claire I was the girl who never left the house without her hair fixed, makeup on and nails done. Now it’s a miracle if I get one of the those three at all. LOL! Hey, it gives me something to aim for, right? How many kids do you have?
YESSS! Me, too! I have two kids, both college-aged. Since my body turned on me (menopause! Oily skin suddenly flaky and dehydrated and don’t get me started on my thinning hair/lashes/eyebrows), I won’t leave the house without my brows done, at the very very minimum.
Ahh, don’t get me started on brows. I seriously need to give mine some TLC (and wax my ‘stash too… DOH!).
Do your kids go to school? I have this running joke that once I get Connor across that stage and she picks up that college diploma, I’m going to take off my Spanx and drink an entire box of wine. I’m kidding but NOT REALLY KIDDING.
Hair and makeup done. And clothes I can’t wear sneakers with. That is very key and very rare. 🙂
When I actually take the time to blow out my hair, put on a little blush and dior lip glow. These days my hair is always put back thanks to chasing a 12 month old and very little time. I’ve got a nice haircut, I just wish I got to see it more these days….
