clarins barocco collection holiday 2010 review

Eureka! There’s gold on them thar cheeks, faces and décolleté — Clarins Barocco Shimmering Gold Powder, that is.

Clarins formed it into delicate gold-dusted nuggets, which they plopped into an elegant black cylinder decorated with a black scroll and tassel. It’s perfect gold rush material, and they even included a black powder puff.

Are ya ready to strike gold today? 🙂

I am going for the gold, yeah!!!!!

Especially in winter I long so hard for a bit of sun instead of the grey leaden clouds that cover the skies here day after day, so how nice would it be I could just look down at my own bossom to get a nice golden twinkle in my eye!

I’ve never tried to find the pot o’ gold at the end of a rainbow, but in the 3rd grade, I did spend a lot of time looking for a four leaf clover… I never found out, but my friend & hunting buddy ate a bug while we were looking. It was then I decided to have a crush on him that lasted all year.

My gold story…two years ago for New Years my singing drag sisters and I were invited not only to BE the entertainment for New Years, but it was for the Grand Opening for a brand new club here in Phoenix called Babylon. I found the cutest dress on sale at Charlotte Russe. It was covered in these amazing gold metal tear drop shaped dangly sequins, with a tube top cut up top and it was about mid thigh in length. I was soooo excited! Perfect dress for the perfect evening!

Until that night when I went to put it on. I remember I tried it on in the dressing room and I remember it being a little uncomfortable but I figured it was just because it was so shiny and sequined and I wasn’t used to anything like that….but when I got it on…OMG. It was sooooooooo uncomfortable. It was not lined, and all around the seams where a machine had cut the fabric, there were all these little jagged peices of metal poking me from every direction, especially around the upper seam where it was rolled and sewn. It was fine if I stood perfectly still, but that wasn’t really going to be practical. I had to change my dress to a purple one at the last minute. I tried and managed to change backstage so I could be in the dress for my set and the midnight bell but it hurt so badly on stage when I was wearing it that I couldn’t concentrate and ended up ending my set early. Had to put purple dress back on for midnight bell. Very sad night indeed. LOL..

When my grandmother passed away a few years back she left me this beautiful antique gold choker – from the early 1900s – made in India. The style is influenced by the British who were occupying India at that time. I hope to pass it along to my granddaughter some day – and I hope she’ll cherish it as much as I do.

One of my furbabies is named Feff. Yes, Feff. Not Fifi, not Fido, but FEFF. My sister said Feff reminded her of the cat in this Sesame Street video because she’s floppy like the video cat, except my Feff isn’t GREEN!!! Check out the video is super cute! I have a short gold chain which I bought for myself quite a number of years ago. I remember that the person at the jewlery show was quite pleased that it found it’s home; I’m short (under 5 foot tall), and short necklaces do best on me. It was too short for most everyone else, but completely perfect for me! =)

So, so pretty! I’m really fair, but that shade of gold tends to be universally attractive! Now, for a story: one of my relatives got me the Kat Von D palette from Sephora this Christmas. Not exactly my style right now, but close, and it has a nice array of knock-off UD eyeshadows. Anywho, I tossed it in my bathroom & kinda forgot about it until today, when I heard my 6-year-old daughter rummaging around in there. By the time I’d caught her, she’d dabbed her fingers in all the pans of eyeshadow & apparently found a favorite: Tijuana, a black shade with gold rainbow glitter! Which she had smeared all over her face, her shirt, the mirror and the sink. She was totally shameless when I caught her, “I was making up, Mom!”. I’m a sucker for short & cute.

Ooooh! More Barocco! This is very exciting. Sadly, I used my very best “gold” story earlier this week. I guess I can add to it by mentioning that when I woke up the AM after Halloween and looked in the mirror, I still had gold glitter on my face and in my hair. That’s the joy of lots of hugs and “you’re beautiful”, “I love you” and “I love you too”s. 🙂

Aside from that, I don’t have many good gold stories since I prefer platinum/silver jewelry. An old HS boyfriend once bought me a gold crocodile necklace charm because I loved Izod/Lacoste back in the day. 🙂

I love gold make up, but it never looks right on me. Maybe this will be the holy grail?

Thinking about gold I have to confess that this year I bought my first golden eyeshadow, I was scared it was to “golden” for me but it looks amazing and people compliment me on it. Gold seems to be a colour made for me lately

Funnily enough I had liked a lot of stuff from this collection and didn’t buy anything. I’m planning on a long long no-buy and this would seriously help the resolve 🙂

I’m a sucker for anything gold, especially with spring on the way. I panned for gold this summer in Barkerville, British Columbia, Canada, and got my own little nugget that looks just like these! How pretty.

I love love love anything sparkly! I always love gold. I had an obsession with gold colored necklaces and i think they’re still beautiful! This is like wearing jewelery on your face :P.

My favorite piece of precious metal is my engagement ring; I love what it signifies and the memories from the day he proposed. My husband proposed to me on one of the seven bridges in Amsterdam. He truly is my pot of gold.

My hubby bought me the most beautiful necklace (gold of course) while we were visiting his family in TX. Being a CA girl Iwas missing home, so he bought me a sand dollar necklace to remind me of home. Awwww

I am cool-toned so I’ve always thought that golds looked horrible on me. However, recently I tried a gold eyeshadow which looked beautiful with my eyes! I would love to try this shimmering gold for a light glow!

My favorite piece of gold jewellery would be the kate spade bow ring I received as a Christmas present!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
