A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
Win a $50 eGift card from Sephora

SLUMBER PARTY!

Today’s the day! I’ve had these plans for about three months now, and I’ve been counting down the days (and seconds). I’m heading with my friends, Jen and Cindy, who I haven’t seen in months, to the Claremont Hotel over in nearby Berkeley for a girls slumber party and spa day.

I picked the aroma therapy massage, which is supposed to de-stress you…

Perfect! — because Tabs has been working me to the bone.

Even though it was a short week, I feel like I got quite a few things done. I tried some new things in my writing process, like using different tech tools, like my phone, and trying to get out a bit more, out to the counters to hang out with the makeup artists and see some of the new stuff for spring.

I’m really excited about spring, both the makeup and the weather. I’m so over wearing thermals…

I hope your week went well and the year got off to a good start. Let’s see if we can’t make it a little better this weekend with a bangin’ Sephora giveaway for a $50 eGift card.

I love Sephora! I could get lost there for hours (and have on many occasions). Whenever I’m in the store, I always know it’s time to go when El Hub walks in, stands around me and just sort of hovers… Sometimes he breathes very loudly, too. That’s my non-verbal cue to hurry up. 🙂

What folks are saying…

“What a lovely surprise it was to see your announcement (after completing one of many exams/papers/projects I have this crazy week)! The eCard will definitely ease expenses for this broke, beauty-obsessed college student. Thank you, Karen and Tabs!!”
-Katie

“Thanks so much, Karen. Just in case you were wondering what I got with it, I decided to go with the Clarisonic Mia–I’ve been wanting it for years now, but have never purchased it because of the price. Your eCard helped me finally buy it! I look forward to using it. Thanks again!”
-Jane

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. 🙂 I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“Thank you SO much Karen! OMG! Wishes really do come true! I can’t believe I won! You have no idea how much this will help me through the holidays. I’ve been an avid fan of your blog for the past two years. Your witty and creative entries, informative makeup information, and beautiful photos have kept me hooked. I look forward to more of it. Goodness, you’ve
seriously just made my week and it’s only Tuesday night!”
-Zharlynne

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”
-Hana

Do you shave/wax your legs in winter? Do you sleep on your back, side or tummy? Do you have any discolorations on your skin, and if so, do you have any tips to cover/conceal them? Have you ever had your bangs accidentally cut too short (I have!)? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:

I really hate doing anything with my legs in the winter, but I do.

Last night I shaved my legs using pure coconut oil for the first time. They were so smooth off the bat, and I didn’t necessarily have to moisturize afterwards, but I put another layer of oil on them afterwards.

I’ve got the smoothest non-irritated after shaving legs I’ve ever had right now. I’m in love.

I totally sucked at having slumber parties! Not only did I not really have girlfriends (and having mixed slumber parties was frowned upon), but I couldn’t ever sleep anywhere but home! Every time I went to a friend’s party, I would end up calling my mom to come get me by 10pm!

Last Slumber Party–probably High School. We were such “good girls who got good grades” no one suspected us of being naughty. Let’s see, we’d steal cigarettes from our parents and try to smoke them (cough cough), steal booze and fill the missing part with water, if boys came over we’d play spin the bottle. Once we even found a vending machine that beer in it so we sent to boys to get some. Fortunately, no one was caught or arrested. We’d also do things like dip a sleeping girl’s hand in warm water to see if she’d pee (she didn’t–an urban myth). This was years and years ago, we had a ton a fun.

I would love this giftcard. My husband is always overseas and I am raising our young son and three pups alone. I need something fun for myself to look forward to. I love beauty everything. I’m pretty sure that this is disgusting and nobody needs to know this, but I don’t get rid of leg hair in the winter. (I don’t shave or wax them, I prefer depilatories.) From October to April, I just let the hair grow out. Since it’s cold here, I’m always wearing long pants, so it doesn’t even matter. But when I was in high school and had to wear a uniform for P.E., I’d wear knee-high socks with my shorts.

Up to when I was five I always had a short, blunt bob with straight bangs. Since I have a rather large head, I ended up looking like a mushroom. After that, I’ve kept my hair length medium to long ever since I had a choice in my haircut. Still, I look back at that bob quite fondly now, since it was very easy to maintain and it did suit me as a child 🙂

Ah, well…and speaking of childhood, I haven’t had bangs since I was a teenager when an older cousin of mine told me if I didn’t have bangs I wouldn’t break out, especially on my forehead. She was right….20 years later I still have perfectly clear skin, thank goodness!

Once when I was about five or six, my little brother cut my bangs while I was sleeping! After that, I had to wear them pushed to the side so his handiwork wasn’t so noticeable.

The last time I had bangs was the mid-1990’s. Had to give it up because no matter what I did to make tyhem lie flat, my wavy hair would reassert itself by mid day and I ended up with the wonkiest fringe imaginable. Not a flattering look and really not the image I wanted to project at work.

I went to sephora yesterday evening before picking up the Hubs from work, in the hopes of finding the new Make Up For Ever pro foundation. But they have not stocked it yet. I became lost, looking around at all the new items, then I get a call from the husband, “where are you? You went into sephora an hour ago?!” Yikes lol

I once cut my hair super short and decided heavy anime bands would look spectacular with it. So insane, it took forever to grow out!!

I very, very rarely shave/epilate in wintertime. I need the extra warmth! 😛

My cat (Apple) and Tabs could be great friends I think. I am getting a bunny today. I’m quite excited about that!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
