Two Ways to Win a $50 eGift Card From Sephora!

A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
Enter to win a $50 eGift card from Sephora

World’s Best Programmer: Tabs the Cat.

Programmer, gamer, hacker, creator of famous 8-bit graphical works of art — not to mention world-renowned plus-size kitty supermodel.

Tabs sent a very important email last night…an email that could change the course of history and alter the fabric of space and time, at least as it pertains to plus-size kitty supermodeling and professional gaming.

It was an email sent to Satoru Iwata, the current president of Nintendo corporation, the world’s largest video game company by revenue, and it starts with the line, “Let me resurrect Donkey Kong.”

Unbeknownst to me before last night, Tabs actually has an honorary degree in computer programming from NIT (the Novato Institute of Technology).

You see, back before he got into modeling, even before his stint as a construction worker, Tabs was a famous script kitty… Actually, he was the scr1ptki77y, otherwise known as the cat who hacked the PetCo corporate network, which was believed to be impregnable at the time.

Anyway, Tabs gave up hacking and transitioned to kitty modeling shortly after the PetCo incident, when it started looking like the authorities were closing in on him.

This was a few years ago, and since then the statute of limitations on kitty hacking expired, and so Tabs is now comfortable publicly discussing this part of his past…

In the email to Iwata, Tabs included the first 500 lines of code for his new game engine, which he claims is so sophisticated that it makes Halo and Call of Duty look like Pong.

Time will tell, I guess. If Iwata responds and offers a coding job to Tabs, Makeup and Beauty Blog may be going on temporary hiatus…

If that happens, this could be one of the last Sephora eGift card giveaways for a while. You better enter this one right now, just in case. 🙂

What folks are saying…

“What a lovely surprise it was to see your announcement (after completing one of many exams/papers/projects I have this crazy week)! The eCard will definitely ease expenses for this broke, beauty-obsessed college student. Thank you, Karen and Tabs!!”
-Katie

“Thanks so much, Karen. Just in case you were wondering what I got with it, I decided to go with the Clarisonic Mia–I’ve been wanting it for years now, but have never purchased it because of the price. Your eCard helped me finally buy it! I look forward to using it. Thanks again!”
-Jane

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. 🙂 I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“Thank you SO much Karen! OMG! Wishes really do come true! I can’t believe I won! You have no idea how much this will help me through the holidays. I’ve been an avid fan of your blog for the past two years. Your witty and creative entries, informative makeup information, and beautiful photos have kept me hooked. I look forward to more of it. Goodness, you’ve
seriously just made my week and it’s only Tuesday night!”
-Zharlynne

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”
-Hana

First, you can enter by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post, a comment about anything at all, like, what’s your all-time favorite video game (and favorite game of the moment)? Have you ever written a computer program? Do you do more of your makeup and beauty shopping in stores or online? What’s your favorite beauty brand website? Do you use any electronic devices in your beauty regimen (iPhones, Clarisonics, vibrating mascara wands, etc.)? How many bits are in a byte? Just for fun, how do you see technology changing the beauty industry 20 years from now? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:

  • Sephora eGift Certificates can only be redeemed online and are not valid in stores or available for purchase or redemption in Canada. International winners may opt to substitute the Sephora eGift card prize for $50 sent directly to their email address by PayPal instead.

I do most of my makeup and beauty shopping in store. I think its too risky for me to purchase something i’m unsure of (such as color matching, texture, and size). But, if i know exactly what i want and it is offered at a better price or deal online, i will order it.

My all time favorite video game is The Longest Journey. It’s an older PC adventure game from 2000 but it has a really interesting storyline, puzzles, and graphics. There’s a sequel called Dreamfall for PC and XBOX but I prefer the original.

And right now I’m about to start the LEGO Lord of the Rings video game for XBOX360. Love the LEGO series of action-adventure video games. They basically parody famous movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, etc. with LEGO characters. Really, funny, cute games.

Although I’m a huge comic book geek, I’ve never really gotten into video games. But one time I got stuck at the Catalina Ferry Terminal in Long Beach on a school field trip for several hours, and I ended up passing the time playing an old arcade console Dead or Alive. I got pretty good at it after a while!

I programmed Legoes with an Apple 2E back when I was in 8th grade. We made a robotic lawn mower that didn’t need someone to work it. It had a light sensor that faced down and recognized the difference between cement and grass and would turn around and a push sensor on the front that was activated when the mower hit a wall and then turn. It wasn’t a “real” lawn mower, but we did have the sensors working correctly 🙂

I online window shop a lot, and when I have a list of things I am considering, I go to Sephora or the department store and swatch to make sure I really like the color/pigmentation/texture before I purchase.

To help him stay motivated, I agreed to take classes with him. Guess who is now about 4 classes away from a computer science degree?? Painful but apparently possible, lol.

I see technology changing beauty by allowing virtual try-ons of products to be more accessible. Sure, you can go to a site and upload your photo and try hairstyle or makeup already, but it would become more portable and the services like seeing sun damage or before-and-after shots of how your skin responds to different products would be available to anyone in the privacy of their own home instead of having to go to a doctor or dermatologist’s office. Let’s say you wanted to try Clinique’s Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector. Your profile would already be stored on your home computer or portable device of your choice (such as iPad) and it could immediately analyze how your skin would respond to the product. Just think–no more chancy purchases–you’d know right away if a product would work on you (or if a makeup item, whether the color would look right on you) without having to buy it. How cool would that be? 🙂

What an adorable story about T-Money! 🙂 I’ve written many programs now and more in the future as an engineer. I feel like technology in 20 years from now will be mostly wireless based; everything will be on the cloud (or whatever version it will be then). I am sure it’ll be the next victim for stealing information in cyber space.

Love your blog, hope mine will be as good as yours one day. And thank you for the giveaway! 🙂

Maybe in the future we’ll have little earrings, and when we “activate” them they will create a hologram illusion over our face which will look like perfect makeup and with our thoughts we can easily adjust the color schemes. lol jk. I’m not sure what will happen but that might actually be a little creepy.

I use a clarisonic about once a week because i have sensitive skin and more than that is too much for me. In the future I think we will be able to have the ability to take pictures that show true tones and undertones and also that will in turn make it possible for us to upload our picture and see how makeup colors will work with our true skintone.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
