A Makeup and Beauty Blog giveaway
Win a $50 eGift card from Sephora
A circus cat entertaining patrons in front of a Sephora store in Paris

I can’t believe it took him five years to tell me!

Five years I’ve been making his gravy, arranging his travel, rubbing his tum, and now, only NOW do I find out that Tabs worked for Cirque du Soleil in Las Vegas before we met?

Apparently, it’s something only the cats and humans in his “inner circle” know about… What am I, chopped liver?

I only found out this morning as I was finalizing the details of his Vegas trip at the end of October and saw a note on his calendar that read, “gst apprnce at Cirque” [guest appearance at Cirque] and asked him about it.

“What’s this thing about Cirque?”

“Mrrrow…”

“What?! You performed with Cirque du Soleil? Why haven’t you mentioned it before?”

“Meow…”

“What does that even mean, ‘need to know basis’? I’m your assistant, Tabs. I need to know about things that pertain to your career. That is, if you want me to do a good job.”

On the October trip, he’ll be giving a private Cirque show for his fans before hosting a fancy party for VIPS/celebs/famous cats at the MGM Grand.

Beyond making the travel arrangements, I’m also supposed to coordinate the security detail, which is gonna be a b*tch. Seriously, if you thought Prince Harry was a party animal, you’ve never partied with Tabs.

You know, sometimes this job is a bear. Pet assisting for a world-renowned plus-size kitty supermodel sure is tough, but you know what’s easy? Entering to win today’s $50 Sephora eCard giveaway. 🙂

What folks are saying…

“Hi Karen. Oh my goodness! I can’t believe I won! :O Thank you so much! You, Tabs, and your blog are amazing! Thank you for keeping me updated on all things beauty and more importantly, for keeping me entertained! Keep doing your thing! Thank you again.”
-Jacqueline

“Thanks so much, Karen. Just in case you were wondering what I got with it, I decided to go with the Clarisonic Mia–I’ve been wanting it for years now, but have never purchased it because of the price. Your eCard helped me finally buy it! I look forward to using it. Thanks again!”
-Jane

“Shut the front door! OMG Karen, you have made my day. 🙂 I’m sick in bed with the flu and this has just cheered me up immensely!!!!!!!! BTW, I’m the one that sent you that pic of my pug in a wig a few weeks back LOL! Thanks again, honestly, I’m beyond giddy right now.”
-Angel

“Oh my goodness! Thank you so much Karen (and Tabs, of course)! I really appreciate this! I’d been eyeing the Anastasia brow pencil in Strawburn to match my red hair!”
-Chelsea (and Jiji the kitten and Quincy the bunny)

“Never before have I been so pleased to check my email right before bed!!! Thank you so, so much! I truly enjoy your blog and check it almost daily! Thanks again! This made my night!”
-Melissa, Edmond, OK

“Hi Karen. Thank you so much, I’m so excited, I’ve never won anything before. My name is Hana … I just turned 25 (today is my birthday!) Yay! Thank you.”
-Hana

First, you can enter by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post, a comment about anything at all, like, if you were to run away and join the circus, what would you do there (tightrope walker, lion tamer, trapeze, etc.)? How do you feel about teal eyeshadow? Do you prefer sticky or non-sticky lipglosses and why? What’s the last meal you prepared from scratch? What’s one makeup/beauty product you’ve already used this morning? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:
    • Follow @karenmbb and RT to Win a $50 eGift Card from Sephora! http://bit.ly/PPVsHC

Lipglosses — the stickier, the better! They stay on longer, and they’re shinier.

I’ve been on a no-buy for almost 2 months and I’m actually not insane. I shopped my tash and focused on what I already have that I don’t use often. I also did a purge and mailed items to friends. After organizing my HBA shelves, I realized how much I wasn’t using and needed to use (i.e. body scrub, body lotion, etc. )

Ugh, sticky glosses are the bane of my existence! I know they stay on longer, but I just can’t stand that tacky texture every time I press my lips together, not to mention when my hair gets stuck in it! I try to stick to Smashbox glosses, as they aren’t sticky at all, but recently MAC has tempted me to buy a few Lipglasses. I don’t know why I do it – I know I won’t wear them, but I got 3 in the mail this week! *shakes head*

This post just caused me to go on a long wikipedia and google research project to understand the ramifications of Mississippi’s unusual age of majority law. My understanding is persons in Mississippi are still considered children for the purposes of state law until they are 21, but can still vote in both state and federal elections, enter into contracts, etc. at 18 (which is the age of license). One impact of Mississippi’s age of majority is that child support must paid until the individual reaches 21. Interesting. Oh law school, I came on this website to look at pretty makeup and look where that lead me.

The trick to making it wearable is to either keep it as liner (top or bottom!), or to just use some on the lid and blend out the crease with a neutral brown. I can’t resist anything teal – it’s a problem! I recently bought a teal belt, purse, and sandals, lol!

Teal eye shadow is beautiful, but for my eye color and shape its not easy to work with, which is why I tend to avoid it when I buy eye shadow. I’m sure I could use teal eye shadow to make the really dark brown (practically black) eye color pop out. But, even though I don’t own teal, I do own L’Oreal Infallible eye shadow in midnight blue.

I like sticky lipgloss – when it’s not sticky, I feel like the color is sliding all over my face, and I keep having to look in the mirror. It’s just a weird oily sensation that kind of creeps me out. I’ve been in love with Illamasqua Intense lipgloss lately, since it’s very pigmented and sticky-ish, but not so sticky that my hair gets caught in it when it’s breezy.

If I was going to join the circus, I would be the tightrope walker! I’ve kind of always wanted to learn how to do that.

And I didn’t notice till I took off my makeup that night, so I ended up going out with two teal arches above my eyes. Not cool… Not sure what happened – it was an UD 24/7 liner which usually stay put – maybe because it was so hot and humid that day?

I always over looked Clinique foundations opting for Lorac or Makeup Forever instead because Clinique seemed outdated and nothing special. Recently though, I went into Sephora to buy my mother makeup and she was matched with a Clinique foundation that is amazing. It has the perfect amount of dewiness, coverage, and repairs ur skin while you wear it. I plan on purchasing it myself. Tip to clinique – update ur packaging and advertising because you have some really awesome products that with a fresh look might bring them the recognition they deserve!

The first thing that comes to mind is “holly hell it’s hot my poor air conditioner is whining at me!” and also congrats on a very successful blog 🙂 you’re giveaways give me hope every time I try my luck, though unsuccessful so far, if there’s anything more stubborn in life then me it’s the persistence of the spirit of hope. Keep it up!

Also I really wanted to mention some beauty products I used this morning. They come from a company called Reversa which is Montreal, QC based. I see their 3 in 1 mild gel cleanser followed up with their antioxidant booster serum. I really like this line, they fight my acne battle the best so far!

Beauty products already used today: Shiseido Sun Protection lip treatment — not out in the sun (Tropical Storm Isaac is headed my way) but I love how moisturizing it is; and Origins VitaZing moisturizer.

Sticky lip gloss is my fave.

And the last “from scratch” meal I made was steak salad with homemade vinaigrette and homemade croutons. El yum.

hi karen!!! i’m a busy teacher and, i absolutely love your makeup blog. i read it all the time especially after work, it helps me relax!! i’m getting ready for my new fall school year. i’m an early childhood educator, currently teaching prekindergarten. my “little people” are very observant to the way i look. i don’t want to be distracting to them but, they do comment sometimes on my appearance especially, if i’m wearing nailpolish!! i’m definitely a chanel girl and although i try to economize and use other brands, i seem to gravitate toward their products. i loved your article on lorac’s new blushes (can’t remember the name but it is they’re the 12 hour ones). thankyou for mentioning the use of a fan brush. that’s crucial with these blushes. they sell a great fan brushes at sephora. also, at ulta as well. i must look at thousands of makeup blogs and your’s is the most detailed and informative!! i just heard of a makeup brand called 29. have you heard about it? i’m curious if their claims are really true. i’m looking forward to nars’ andy warhol collection even though, “the flowers” in the compact probably will dissappear with usage. i know it’s a collector’s thing but, when i use makeup it’s down to the silver and then i’m scraping it out with a spatula. so, a makeup tip from a prek teacher….use baby shampoo to clean your brushes and when guerlain comes out with a new nail polish grab it!! my hands get beat up and their summer polish lasted 5 days plus even when i lost my staple remover! huggy sunday night to you!!! p.s. even teachers make punctuation and grammatical errors. please pardon any typos. xoxo.

I was almost exclusively a sticky gloss girl, not because I loved the texture or anything but because I knew the glosses were staying. I say was because then I discovered Chanel’s Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss and…well…I’m rethinking my stance. I got it in Troublant from the fall collection, which is a really luscious divine color, but $32??? Me-ouch.

But seriously, Troublant is freaking amazing in that totally and deliciously understated way.

I used one of MAC’s new Styleseeker e/s duos this morning. Thank goodness I LOVE marché aux puces b/c it was like a wild goose chase finding it. 4 Nordies, 3 MAC stores and 2 Macys later, it’s mine!

We just took in a stray kitty and had her spayed. The little sweetie is recovering well and we’re spoiling her. This makes the seventh and final feline that is apart of our family now!

I prefer non-sticky lip gloss but haven’t really found one in awhile! Seems that all the ones I try lately are super sticky. Then I have long hair and it’s windy…. Creates some sticky situations….

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
