Ah… Good old fashioned bribery works every time! My body and brain have been demanding a little extra exercise motivation lately, so I’ve decided to award them with new workout gear.

I figure, if I’m gonna break a sweat, even at times when I really don’t want to, I might as well do it in cute clothes. 🙂

There were those pieces I liked from Zella, which I’ve heard is like a budget friendlier Lululemon, but I’m a gal who likes options, so I put the question out there on Twitter and asked for recommendations for stylish, sturdy, affordable workout clothes.

A couple of girls mentioned Danskin at Wal Mart, and the Champion line at Target, Old Navy and Gap, so I’ve got a little more to work with now.

Let me know if you have any other ideas for me. The more the merrier.

    I mostly like to keep my skin free from makeup while exercising but I always wear a lip color and sometimes eye shadow, if I’m testing some products for review!

    Just finished my Sat. morning cardio kickboxing workout–feels so good afterwards! I do wear a bit of makeup…mascara, lip balm and a dab of concealer. It’s all off by the end of the class.

    I do mostly cardio, HIIT, plyometrics, weight lifting etc at the gym. Lately I’ve been running 5K obstacle courses which is so much fun!

    I won’t wear makeup when I exercise, feels too gross! Just chap stick for me! Hopefully going to workout at some point today with the hubby.. I want to so badly but it’s so hard to feel energized with a 7 month old still not sleeping through the night lol 🙂

    I bought into the hype a few years ago and bought the Reebok Easytone tennis shoes (the ones with the balance balls on the sole). A class action lawsuit was brought against them for failure to live up to the hype and now I’m getting a $50 check in the settlement! I’ve never had a problem with them, as I use them only for walking (not running) – kind of a bonus that I’m getting $ back 🙂

    I run 3x a week, usually with a friend or local running group, but sometimes solo. If I already have makeup on I keep it on, but I never put makeup on just to exercise. (But I MUST have earrings on! Otherwise I feel like a boy.) And I hate bananas.

    Makeup while exercising is a no-no for me. I’m at the gym to get fit, not impress everyone! Also, bananas are AMAZING! Great pre-workout snack too.

    I can’t do anything without my makeup on. When I work out I usual just put light makeup on, like BE. I NEVER leave my house without makeup on. I’m one of those that always runs into someone I know when I look my worst.

    Um, yeah, I wear makeup while working out! lol Well, just waterproof mascara – it keeps my lashes curled and makes me feel less… gross?… when I’m all sweaty. I tend to exercise later in the day or in the evening, so I’ll take off the rest of my makeup but leave the eye stuff bc that usu requires some special remover.

    I don’t wear ANY make up when I work out, but I love wearing make up and playing with it when I get out of the shower after a good work out! Nothing makes me feel more beautiful than a good sweat at the gym, nice shower, and nice make up :)!

    No makeup while I exercise – I don’t want stuff sitting on my skin as I sweat. However, I can’t help wearing just a bit of mascara when I go outdoors for a hike. Gotta bring out those peepers!
    And, I love a good banana. It is my pre-lunch snack at work!

    I’ve been using Cover Girl lash blast 24hour mascara and it does not come off ever! I even have a bit of difficulty getting it off with my make up removing clothes. It does keep my lashes curled which I’ve always had trouble with.

    I love cute workout clothes, too. I especially love the brand lucy (lucy.com)–a little higher-end, but very high quality, so comfy, so cute, and if you search the sale section, you can find some really good deals.

    Lululemon is worth the investment but, from experience the Old Navy and Danskin lines are decent options for being budget friendly. They’ve held up through yoga, pilates, spinning and running. The Target Champion line didn’t last as long but its a good option for pilates or yoga but not running. Another line I like is the Adidas by Stella MCcartney Not cheap but So cute!

    If I hit the gym after work, I don’t bother taking off my makeup before I exercise, to me that’s just as silly as putting it on just to go to the gym. I go as I am.

    OMG, bananas. I get made fun of all the time, because there is only a teeny tiny window where I will eat fresh bananas. If they’re still too green and firm, nope. If they have one too many spots, nope. Hahaha.

    I wear a uniform of comfy skinny jeans, a t-shirt, and a hoodie. I tried to revamp my style and dress more fashionably a year back, but it just took too much effort and $ and I ended up feeling silly. Now I let my makeup be the star of my look. 🙂

    I can’t lie, I wear makeup when I work out. Since I wear makeup every day, it’s still on my face by the time I get to the gym. It’s not really a conscious decision like OMG GYM TIME IS MAKEUP TIME, it just happens to still be on my face.

    My university has two gyms– one near all the dorms and one on campus. My friend that lives in my building will literally come into my room and drag me out to go with her, so working out has been pretty easy lately.

    I rarely workout and when I do I usually just use the treadmill. I usually just fill in my brows, put some lip/cheek stain on and curl my lashes.

    I am always training for a marathon or half marathon, so I run a lot. I also like weights, body pump and Zumba. I should get back into yoga as well..
    I always wear lipstick or lipgloss when I work out. And if I have a full face of makeup from the day I don’t take it off before the workout because Im gross like that 😀

    Currently my only work out is walking while I’m on break at work. So yes, full makeup. It’s only about 2/3ths of a mile.

    Love bananas. And imo nike makes the best capri pants! I feel like a superwoman when running/ biking in them. Quality of those is the best! So worth the price. Do not like target’s champion line pants. They give u came ltoe, lol:). Even my bf noticed. RetuuuuurnedThere are a few things more embarassing than camel toes and visible panty lines. Even the gretest make up won’t help u then.

    Happy Saturday. No make-up other than concealer for a heavy duty work out, but if I’m out just walking I wear a tinted moisturizer or very light foundation with sunscreen it. Oh & masscara too. Favorite work out is weights & my treadmill.

    I like either the elliptical (with intervals of going backwards) or intervals on the treadmill. I don’t wear a ton of makeup when I exercise, but I at least put on eyebrow pencil (my brows are sparse) and mascara (my lashes are blonde at the tips!)

    I love bananas, and more importantly, my bunny Quincy loooovvves bananas. They are his favorite thing. I just bought the new CoverGirl LashBlast 24 Hour mascara in black gold, and I LOVE IT. It kept my lashes curled, no flaking, no smearing, and a pretty golden glint to it. No workout buddy, but I’m currently wearing yoga pants (though I do plan to hit up the gym later)

    My favorite waterproof mascara is CG Professional in Very Black. I don’t wear it often, but when I do this does the job.

    I like bananas..they’re delicious, but I prefer them au naturel rather than frozen and dipped in chocolate. I once had a banana pencil case that was peel-able, it was one of my most prized souvenires from Japan.

    I like Victoria’s Secret workout gear. A little pricy at times, but their sports bras have lasted me for years. Highly recommend them, and Champion as far as workout gear goes! By the way, I really enjoy reading your blog, and since I am new to it, reading old posts as well. It’s a highlight out of my day!

    I just started working out again and my favorite places to get running gear are target and Amazon. Target has cute cheap gear for weight classes and yoga, while Amazon is great for deals on running gear.

    My favourite mascara has to be blinc. It has the longevity of a waterproof but comes off with hot water- just awesome. I can cry, run, do yoga, bike, nap with this stuff on and it won’t smudge or flake. It just rocks! Thanks for the giveaway!

    I love swimming, I find it that it works out my whole body and I don’t feel sore in the same way the day after. I try to combine both though since it is probably the best way to do it. Thanks for the give away Karen!!

    i get all my workout gear on sale – nike and zella- just got a long sleeved nike dri-fit shirt- in pink!- for about $13 at macy’s prez day sale. i haven’t had good luck with less expensive brands- most times, they either fall apart too quickly or just don’t fit right. nordies always has nike and zella in their sales. the only problem i ever had with zella was wearing pink or blue shirts to bikram and the colors ran all over my towel. (and me)

    I love bananas. Love them on a PB sandwich (with or with out honey), on my cereal, and plain. I can only buy them during the cold months though, as hot & muggy weather does horrible things to my basement apt & worse things to my bananas.

    Ah, workout gear! I upgraded some of my winter workout gear this year, and found that the long-sleeved workout tees (scoop neck version) from H&M are really fantastic, and are the best-fitting that I’ve found in years. The fit is close to the body, but not so snug that it restricts movement and are loose enough to wear a tank and sports bra comfortably underneath.

    I’ve had a decent experience with a C9 sports bra purchased at Target last month, even though I normally go for higher-end, sturdy sports bras.

    It’s said that getting a great body has the most to do with a good diet.
    For me, I *must* exercise too – not to fuel the burn fire, but because I find exercising really helps me eat better. I happen to know the calories for just about everything & that 1 hershey kiss = 25cal = 1/4 mile…. Math like that helps me realize that 1 really don’t want to have to run a FULL MILE for just 4 hershey kisses….

    the best sports bras i’ve ever found are the champion ones from target with the thin straps. so much support (and i need it!) and i LOVE the old navy yoga pants. the only issue i have is that after you wash them, some stay the way they were and some strech a little. but they’re a great deal for the money!

    I’ve been fighting a cold for the last 3 days, so I’ve been on a short sabbatical from exercise. I usually do elliptical (love my life fitness machine!), yoga, & pilates. I haven’t been eating much, but I’m starting to get my appetite back–unfortunately I’m craving carrot cake instead of a nice, healthy salad.

    I never wear make up when I excersie, thats a lie I always have to make my eyebrows look good by filling them in and extending them only slightly this gives me the confidence to get my excersise clothes out and head on over to zumba (dance class) which might i add is amazing.

    So i just recently found out my cat is a boy after having “her” for almost 9 months hahaha. It takes some getting used to calling her a him, but I’m sure i will get used to it!

    I always try to take off face makeup when I work out. I don’t want to clog any pores. Sometimes I leave eye makeup on and my non waterproof mascara usually doesn’t run (only a tiny bit on the bottom) :).

    Favorite workout routine: Warm up on elliptical, stair master, then run 1 mile! Do lunges and my blitz ab routine that has been working for years.

    I love Adidas workout clothes. However, there’s an awesome brand called Alo that has caught my eye. LOVE LOVE LOVE their stuff! I’m drooling over some shirts they have.

    I wear tinted moisturiser or bb cream to the gym with a coat of lip balm , I like to look healthy and glowing during a workout rather than made up x

    I like the workout clothes from Target. It helps that they’re affordable. And yes, I wear makeup when I work out. I wear makeup just about all the time so I would have to wash it off before working out and reapply after working out…. which I think is a little overkill :). Besides, workouts are good tests of certain types of makeup :).

    I need to start working out! I usually love doing cardio and some weights too. I have the clothes and shoes..I just need to get on a consistant schedule, once I start I know I’ll be okay. It’s been a tough year for my working out resolution since my one workout buddy (best friend/sister) lost her life to ovarian cancer on Valentine’s Day. 🙁 I do wear some makeup when I work out, just a little bit of foundation to even out some post breakout marks, light eyeliner and my favorite mascara to wear with anything. I love Clinique’s Lash Power mascara because it’s water-resistant but comes off with warm water.

    I work out at Barry’s Boot Camp in West Hollywood. And I love Lululemon! It’s expensive, but lasts forever and fits the best. I always wear some makeup when I work out. I’m so pale, I at least need blush. LOVE your blog so much!! 🙂

    HMMM…I guess I’ll answer ALL of the questions! 🙂
    I do currently exercise and my current favorite workout activity is definitely running around the lake in my complex. It’s so much easier than crunches and push-ups! I don’t wear makeup when I exercise because I really don’t even like the idea of sweat and makeup coexisting. So, unless I’m going to the gym where there are people I know and I don’t want to be bare-faced around them, I skip the makeup. As for bananas, I like the way they taste, but I hate the texture. My favorite waterproof mascara is Diorshow Waterproof Mascara. I don’t have a workout buddy because I’m not comfortable being super sweaty and gross around other people….yikes! 🙁 I think my most comfortable outfit consists of a T-shirt and comfy sweats.

    To be honest, I think it’s a little silly when people wear makeup to the gym-you’re just going to sweat it off! To me, it’s a little bit like putting on makeup before you go to sleep-pointless. Besides, you’d just have to reapply your makeup afterwards anyway since it would be all gross and runny. But, I guess to each his own

    I work out more now than I ever have before, which is saying a lot because I was on active duty for the U.S. Army two years ago. I love weight training and setting new personal records (that’s what keeps me motivated), but my all time favorite thing is running. It can be unenjoyable while actually running, but no other work out I have done can compare to the feeling that running leaves you with. My motivation to keep going is just knowing that after each work out I will be just a tiny bit healthier than I was before. I won’t be just another American suffering from obesity.

    When I workout I’m usually not worried about my makeup or what I’m wearing. I just want to be comfortable and presentable. It looks a little ridiculous when I see women all dressed up, with a fresh face of makeup on. Just do you, and wear and do what makes you feel good.

    On another note, I just got out of the military, after being in the Air Force for 8 years, last month, and I’m having a lot of fun with makeup that I was never able to wear before. I started a blog recently and would like to get more members to my page, so your Giveaway idea really gave me some food for thought. I think I’ll be doing a giveaway pretty soon too, so Thank you!

    I totally understand, Karen! I like to wear nice gym clothes too when I work. It’s actually a very good extra motivator. When you look good, you feel good and you want to do your best to keep it that way!

    I do martial arts. You feel accomplished as you reach higher levels, plus you’ll (hopefully!) be able to defend yourself in dangerous situations. And be able to do a pushup (that’s my greatest accomplishment, don’t laugh!).

    I don’t really have an exercise routine, but my college campus is HUGE and I don’t have a car anyway, so I spend about 45 mins to an hour everyday briskly walking where I need to go. What is silly is that I lug my hand weights with me everytime I move back into an appartment for school, but I never use them. I need to start. :3

    To get my best complexion, I try to start my day with a cardio or hot yoga work out to get sweaty. The more sweat, the more dirt and left over makeup get pushed out of my pores. Washing your face with a gel cleanser after exercising will wash away everything that the sweat brings up–creating the perfect slate for skin care and makeup products. Some of my favorite work outs: Jillian Michaels’ Yoga Work Out DVD–it comes with two 30-min routines that I cannot get sick of! 🙂

    I haven’t found any other workout pants/shorts more comfortable, stylish, durable, and butt-flattering than Lululemon’s. I hate that they’re so expensive, but at least they last a long time. I do go cheap on my non-fashion swimsuits. Sporti bathing suits and bikinis are cute, functional, AND affordable – perfect for swim days and water aerobics (just make sure to size up as they do run small).

    Sunday morning, I take a shower, put on my fave 1989 Levis 501 and my old cashmere sweater, a ponytail, a bit of Stereo Rose on my cheeks for that healthy glow, I groom my brows, a bit of mascara and shiny lip balm, my old baby pink Converse and I take my dog out. And I breathe, breathe, breathe. Feel good. Walk for 2 hours and give a call to a beloved one, for nothing. Just to say “Have I ever told you that I was happy to know you and have you around?” and put a smile on someone’s face. I come back, have a green tea, an apple and simply feel….alive and happy. Another day begins, full of possibilities.

    Hot yoga is AWESOME, but unfortunately the one in my city is sooo far away from my house… I love exercise DVDs though, and there is this one really old one called Callanetics that has the best moves… it looks really lame (filmed in the 80s), but once you learn the moves you can mute it and listen to music while you follow it! 🙂

    I have recently started morning walk, its not been even a month but I feel Super through the day and feels like the usual day is just a bit extended with a couple of extra hours! More time, More work, More fun and more life!

    Happy Sunday!

    I currently work out kind of infrequently. When I do work out, my routine is to run a mile and half on the treadmill and then stumble around the weights section. I typically go to the gym straight from work, so I wear whatever make up I had on that day.

    I teach Zumba and it is definitely my favourite, but I also run, do step, kickboxing, dance classes, walking….mostly because I really, really like eating.

    My workouts are extremely limited right now; I’m about two weeks away from having a baby. So I’ve totally lost my abs, but that’s okay, because I’ve been working out buns and thighs. I do wear makeup, because I’m not breaking a sweat with the little I can do. Sephora gift card = very good eye cream for very tired mom.

    I’ve always disliked bananas (unless I also have a dish of peanut butter and honey!). But I’m studying abroad this year, and suddenly a banana among the mounds of oranges and hard pears is so very exciting!

    I usually don’t wear makeup while I workout.. when I sweat, it tends to drip in my eyes… which means I get make up in my eye! 🙁

    I don’t wear makeup when exercising- it’s just too gross. And my favorite waterproof mascara is Blinc- it’s not the greatest in a lot of ways, but the fact that it is SO easy to remove and yet never comes off during the day makes it my favorite.

    I never wear make-up while exercising. I find it kind of pointless… for me, exercising/gym is not a place to flaunt my making-up abilities… and after all, I’m going to end up looking a washed-up zombie with sweat all around, and a little bit of eyeliner wouldn’t help my look, either :D. Also, only a certain amount of make-up products are really that long-lasting not to start pouring down on my face after sweating, and I sweat badly (+ somewhat oily skin)… and most of those stuff are not in my budget. so… yeah. that’s it :).

    My clothes have to be comfortable when I work out. Most especially: NO WEDGIES! I’ll deal with sweat. I’ll deal with hair flopping in my face. I will not deal with wedgies. I’ve actually stopped a work out because it was so uncomfortable.

    I’m not working out much at the moment (gasp!) but when I do I always take off my makeup beforehand, usually with a MAC wipe. My most comfortable outfit is my DKNY velour tracksuit since it’s soft and flexible.

    I am so not a fan of waterproof mascara. It just seems to go on thinner and even shinier, which I don’t like. It’s not the actual fact of whether it’s washable or not that I mind–I use some longwear shadow sticks and waterproof liquid liner and don’t have a problem with using some remover to get it off.

    Bananas are my favorite fruit, so portable and easy to eat. I try to walk at least 10,000 steps a day and do some videos for aerobic activity – usually before I’ve put on my makeup.

    I love, love, love my yoga. I started doing it about a year after I hurt my back, as a progression from the physical therapy I was doing. I like that it can be as easy or hard as you like, depending on how you’re feeling. I also like how non-competitive it is. The fact that it also encourages meditation and a holistic approach to health doesn’t hurt either.
