Win a $50 Sephora eGift card from Makeup and Beauty Blog

I wish I could learn new things by osmosis (technically, diffusion) — you know, where you could just touch a how-to book to your forehead or sleep with it under your pillow and just magically memorize the whole thing.

That sure would be convenient, wouldn’t it? Waking up the next morning and having El Hub ask me, “How did you sleep?” and me saying, “Eu dormi fantástico!”

I got a couple of new books about drawing last week by a cartoonist I like named Ben Caldwell. His style is very modern Disney and the books are filled with drawing exercises, which I do follow, some of them, but only as many as I can with the time.

Just one of those things I wish I had more time for… That and figuring out inventive new ways to annoy Tabs. 🙂 You know how it is. Too many interests, too little time.

The holiday weekend activities continue today. I’m taking pics of my BFF’s son’s christening this afternoon, so I’m excited about that, but also a little nervous. I don’t want to step on any toes, literally. Or knock anything over. It’s in a church, so there will be plenty of stuff to accidentally bump. Oh, and open flames…

I hope you’re having a good weekend. I think we should start ours here with another giveaway. How does Sephora sound?

Yup, it’s that time again. Ready to go in 1-2-3…

A Makeup and Beauty Blog Giveaway!

  • One (1) Sephora eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

  • There are two ways to enter, and you can do both of them for two chances to win. First, you can enter by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post, a comment about anything at all, like, let’s say you could learn anything by osmosis — what would you want to learn? What’s your favorite food from this time of year? What’s your favorite place to buy discounted beauty products? Have you ever purchased clothing online? Hair question: how do you feel about victory rolls? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:
    • Follow @karenmbb and RT to Win a $50 eGift Card from Sephora! http://bit.ly/tu9ieZ

  • Contest is open to individuals of any country who have reached the age of majority according to their local laws (18 in the United States with these exceptions: Alabama and Nebraska, 19; Mississippi, 21).
  • Sephora eGift Certificates can only be redeemed online and are not valid in stores or available for purchase or redemption in Canada. International winners may opt to substitute the Sephora eGift card prize for $50 sent directly to their email address by PayPal instead.
  • Tabs and I (heretofore referred to as “T-Money and K-Dawg”) will select one (1) winner at random from the entries either left in the comments at the bottom of this blog post or addressed to @karenmbb on Twitter.

In this time of the year I love to eat baked pumpkin and to drink boiled (very very hot) wine,to warm up myself, because outside it’s very cold, actually it’s snowing .:) I know that any of us would be very happy if we could learn by osmosis, but I question myself, would I be more happy?I think that the answer is no,if you can’t forget something you’re not happy. But,sometimes I’d really wish to learn something very quickly, especially when I have the next day an exam (so,the answer is that I’d love to learn by osmosis, anything about law-because I’m at a law school).Good luck everyone!

Is it possible to get sick of turkey? Because I think I am. Not just turkey, actually, but all the traditional thanksgiving herbs–sage and rosemary and thyme and garlic and the caramelized flavors produced by the malliard reaction that occurs when roasting. Unfortunately, neither one of them will eat pumpkin pie, which I really look forward to eating this time of year, and I couldn’t justify making or buying a whole pie just for me. I would love to learn Spanish by osmosis. Sadly, I DID take Spanish classes in college, however most of the grammar has escaped me. My boyfriend is from Puerto Rico, so he speaks fluent Spanish. I’m relearning little by little when I practice my Spanish with him, but sometimes it’s so frustrating to try to say something but not have the words/correct grammar to say it.

C’mon, Karen! Don’t you have a degree in Biology? You should know better than to throw around the word “osmosis” like that. =)

But, if I could learn anything, say, instantly, I guess it would have to be… discipline. You can learn everything else if you already have discipline up your sleeve. It’s super corny, but that’s the best I could come up with.

If I could learn bu osmosis, one would think I’d know a few more languages by now! I’ve exposed myself to quite a few different languages through media. I learned Latin in high school, and I know some basic Spanish–I can ask for the bathroom, how much something costs, and can talk about food. But I’ve enjoyed plenty of media in languages besides those two.

Let’s say you could learn anything by osmosis — what would you want to learn?
I’d love to learn a really difficult language like Welsh or Klingon.

What’s your favorite food from this time of year?
I really find myself craving comfort foods when the weather gets colder; anything starchy and/or creamy.

What’s your favorite place to buy discounted beauty products?
    Big Lots or Dollar Tree.

Have you ever purchased clothing online?
I do this more often than I buy clothes in the store.

Hair question: how do you feel about victory rolls?
Pretty, but not very practical for every day life.

My parents never taught me and I never learned on my own how to swallow a pill. On Thanksgiving with my family I had an allergic reaction and needed to swallow a pill. My aunt bribed me by saying “If you swallow this I will get you any lipgloss and eyeshadow from Sephora.”. MOTIVATION is key to anything! I swallowed the thing on the first try. So now she owes me those. I guess I don’t need this gift certificate then…but I sure would like it. Sorry that was random!

I studied Italian for about 3 months once, and never became fluent, but I once dreamt I was speaking it perfectly, and I was! Goes to show that subconciously we take in more than we realize. Still can’t speak it awake though:)

Math & sewing! I would love to be able to make my own clothes.

What’s your favorite food from this time of year?

Comfort food & I know this isn’t a food, but I love my eggnog soy lattes!

What’s your favorite place to buy discounted beauty products?

I like skinstore.com when they have their 20% sale.

Have you ever purchased clothing online?

Yes because I’m so hard to fit & I still wind up taking most of it back! FRUSTRATING!!!!!!

Hair question: how do you feel about victory rolls? — Um not feeling it.

Speaking of Sephora – I am so excited for Sephora to arrive in my country next year.Several bloggers and a couple of magazines wrote a bit about it, but I am sort of doubtful anyway since a specific date or month hasn’t been announced yet. One would think that something as big as Sephora would create more buzz in the media. I’m going to stay optimistic though; positive thinking all around!

I feel like I’m forever on the search for that perfect, my lips but better shade. In particular, I want a sheer, hydrating lipstick that can be applied without a mirror. I’ve found a great MLBB lipgloss (MAC Deelight) and would like a lipstick equivalent, but maybe something peachier or pinker. Any ideas?

I wore victory rolls as part of my halloween costume. They are very cute, but too high maintenance for my every day. My favorite food from this time of year is probably potatoes au gratin or pecan pie. If I could learn anything by osmosis I would learn how to be more organized and disciplined in my daily life. And I always get my moisturizer for a steal from Ebay – but often in mini or small sizes.

I found your blog a while back and your posts are so helpful! I’m thinking about Goody Spin Pins. I have thick hair and a ton of it, layered and I’m skeptical that they’ll hold a in for me…

I would want to learn via osmosis how to stop time. I actually love the process of learning and that would give me time to do just that. 🙂

I purchase clothing online more than I do in stores! I find it much less stressful that way, and it’s easier to pick out what I want most.

My cats were happy to get leftover turkey; for one, it was his first thanksgiving as an owned cat, so he was happily surprised. The kitty with end-stage renal failure decided that dark meat turkey was food, so he got all he wanted. (He’s getting extremely picky/has lost most of his appetite – baby food is often dissed now.)

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
