Win a $50 Sephora eGift card from Makeup and Beauty Blog
Right now I smell like cilantro because I was just outside tending to the garden on the deck.

Greetings, young lady! I got a late start again today… That seems to be my new Saturday slogan: “I got a late start again today.” 🙂

Tabs has decided that cilantro is no longer the new catnip, and he totally ignores it now when we’re outside. And that means that the plants are overgrown, so I had to pick some off and trim it back…which made me hungry for Chipotle (their rice).

I think I might go for lunch to get a veggie burrito.

Oh! Here’s a fun fact: at Chipotle, if you order the veggie burrito, if you really and truly want it to be veg, you have to get it with the black beans, because they use bacon to make their pinto beans.

They don’t always mention that when you order the veggie burrito. I’ve seen it before…

So what are you up to today? Doing anything fun? I don’t have anything going on other than house chores and errands. Nothing exciting.

If I can sneak away for an hour, I’d like to swing by Nordstrom again to return the top I bought yesterday under duress. It looked cute on the rack and has a cutout back, which I thought I’d wear with a tank top underneath. I didn’t try it on in the store — it was one of those stress purchases — but I should have, because with it on I look like a trucker from the ’80s.

I didn’t notice in the store that the sides are also cut out, like how those rocker metal guys from the ’80s would cut out the sides of their shirts? That’s what it looks like. I look like a little rocker, biker girl with it on, and it’s not flattering at all.

Anywho, I hope your weekend got off to a good start, and maybe today’s giveaway will help. 🙂

A Makeup and Beauty Blog Giveaway!

While I’m at Nordie’s, I’m also gonna check out some of the new makeup from fall, like Bobbi Brown Marrakesh Chic, Lancôme’s Fall 2011 collection and MAC Me Over (the Shadesticks turned out to be really long lasting).

Now, on with the show!

Prize

  • One (1) Sephora eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

Do you know how to write in cursive? How many plants do you have in your house? Have you ever seen a cat attack a lizard (would you like to?)? What are you doing with your makeup today? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:

Oh Karen, how I love these random post about cilantro and shopping hehe, I hate when I buy something and completely regret it when i get home, I always feel a little guilty when i return things. I need to get my butt to the mall and look at Bobbi Brown’s new collection too, I’ve heard amazing things. I use to attend Nordstrom Beauty Trend Shows, but now I am not nearly at the mall enough to figure out when it is. It’s a bit sad because I totally loved waking up at 7AM on a SATURDAY to get my bedhead to the mall and snag a front row seat tee-hee.

Anyhow, I woke up and washed my car today. It took me 2 hours. I washed, lazy waxed (i purchase this wax where all you do is apply it on when your car is still wet spread and let it try, see lazy) I conditioned the inside but didn’t get to vacuum.

Oh oh i did get to try a new beauty product today.. I tried DR Dennis Gross (DGSKINCARE) SPF Towelette 🙂 Its a bit… greasy for my already greasy face 🙁

Mmm Chipotle. They’ve always been awesome at only using the black beans for my veggie burritos (which are all I get there, seriously now I want one) I’m just waiting to go over my boyfriend’s grandpa’s house so we can celebrate his birthday. I hope we leave soon because the CT emergency advisory says people should be home and secured by nightfall to ride out this storm. No offense to his family, but I don’t want to get stuck somewhere that is not my home.

Hey Karen! I’m going to do a first and answer ALL of your questions:
    1) My favorite stores to buy clothes…Hmm…I prefer buying clothes online, but from actual stores I like Zara, H&M and yeah that’s about it. You don’t have many a choice in Greece. Ugh.
2)I wear headbands, at home, when I need to get hair off my face and either clean it or apply makeup. Otherwise, I may wear a skinny,rhinestone-y headband with teased hair, but you know, that rarely happens.
    3) My cursive is for the birds. Period.
    4) Yes I have, I felt so sorry for the lizard. I did make the cat leave the lizard alone though! Tabs is being naughty,no?
    5) My makeup was simple today (time difference-its 23.00 here!), just some chapstick! Letting my skin breathe and all 😀

I like headbands, but I hardly ever wear them because they interfere with my sunglasses-wearing (I have to take the headband off to wear my sunglasses, plus I usually keep my sunglasses on my head when I’m inside). And sunglasses > headbands here in the desert.

Already went out and took care of my Saturday bidness. Breakfast, coffee, farmer’s market, fun shopping, and food shopping. Five hours later I’m ready for a nap! The sun is just too much and we desperately need a break from these temps! Everything is dead and dying (and has been for a while) so it already looks like fall outside without the cool “hoodie-optional” benefits. 🙁

Ever since I went to Ecuafor, I cannot stand the smell or taste of cilantro. They put it in everything, and in hefty doses. I’d ride the buses, women next to me on their way to market with huge bunches. Overkill. It’s all about mint and parsley for me now.

YAY Give away time!! Thanks Karen 😀

I don’t wear headbands typically because I look like a 10 year old when I do. I love shopping at J.Crew FACTORY (SOOO much cheaper, and usually things are on major sale as well.) I also love me some H&M, but they don’t have a store where I live :\ C’est la vie!

Makeup today is the Silk Road quad by Laura Mercier (love it!) with Le Gloss lip gloss by L’Oreal. Really rocks – you’re right, the gloss is perfect and amazing pigmentation, not sticky, and nice smell/flavor.

I have a bird’s nest plant, two Pothos ferns and an umbrella plant 🙂 They purify the air and keep me happy. Enjoy that cooler weather! It’s still 98 degrees here in the humid South.

Missy went through a very brief phase when she was young where she would catch lizards, bring them, alive, into the house and let them run loose. They would always run under the linen closet door and I would have to try to coax them out and get them outside again. I’m very grateful this was a BRIEF phase that Missy went through.

I don’t like headbands, they give me a headache. I usually don’t keep plants in the house because our cats eat them, or pull dirt out of the pots, and because they tend to die. I bought Coty Translucent powder today after reading amazing reviews on it. Can’t wait to try it. I hope you have an amazing weekend.

Mmm..Chipolte. It sucks living in the middle of nowhere! Seeing that I live in the middle of nowhere most of my clothes come from Jc Penney and Old Navy because that’s what we have here..haha. Actually, Penney’s isn’t that bad anymore, they’ve kinda stepped up their game. Old Navy works well for basics, so I guess I shouldn’t complain too much 🙂

My favorite store to shop is definitely Loehmanns! Fab designer clothes, amazing discounts and sales. When I was younger (think t-shirts with clever sayings, scrunchies and flip flops – oh who am I kidding I still wear flip flops) I thought it was “old.” Then one fateful day, towards the end of high school, I had been searching every discount and department store in town for a great, unique wool coat at a reasonable price only to be frustrated at every turn. Then I saw, complete with parting clouds and singing angels, a nicely organized, large and stylish selection of exactly what I wanted at Loehmanns. I ended up with a glorious turquoise pea coat. Now that place has taken over two thirds of my wardrobe!

Had quite the weekend already- Rushed my oldest cat to the vet yesterday work because she was lethargic and hoarse (who’d have thought a cat could sound hoarse!), then ran my other two there this morning to make sure they didn’t have the same thing. I wanted to make sure we were all healthy before Irene hit- didn’t want to risk three sick kitties without access to the vet! The things we do for our 4 legged friends! With all this excitement, I was only able to put my foundation on- MAC studio tech with thebalm bronzer and highlighter (bargain finds at TJ Maxx this week!).

Hey! Oh I always get asked this, but I love American Eagle, Forever 21 and Banana Republic, just to name a few. I do wear headbands! I don’t wear them too often, but sometimes when I’m feeling lazy with my hair, I’ll put a cute headband in.. I do know how to write in cursive, I used to always practice, and just write random words so I could practice my cursive. I have plants all around the house, I’m not sure exactly, but probably around… 6 or 7. No, I have not seen a cat attack a lizard! I never even thought about it, but now that I have… no, I do not have a particular interest in seeing a cat attack a lizard, haha. My makeup today… I have a little bit of eyeliner on (UD 24/7 eyeliner in Rockstar, a deep plum color), just on the outer corners of the top of my eye and then a little highlighter in the inner-corners of my eyes, lashes are curled with a little mascara. Oh! and I have a little bit of You Rebel tinted moisturizer, by Benefit on!
And that is the answer to all your questions… oh wait.. Were we not supposed to answer all of them?! …

One time we saw her going after something – she eats moths and all sorts of bugs all the time – and it was a lizard! I think it was pretty smart because it managed to evade her, so my sister felt sorry for it and brought it to safety.

Suzie was disappointed but I think she drowned her sorrows in real kitty food, so it was okay.

I like the concept of headbands but they rarely work well on me. I’m not sure why. It’s not my face shape. I think it’s my hair in general. It’s this weird, curly, not quite bushy….thing on my head. And most headbands just make me look incredibly weird. I’ve found maybe four or five total that actually look good on me.

I haven’t worn headbands in a long time. I used to… but they disappeared years ago…… right around the time my sister started her headband phase. I have a sneaking suspicion they disappeared into the depths of her room but have never had the energy to dig through it all and check. Lol oh well.

^Ewww Bonnie i didn’t know cats liked lizards!! I live in Toronto and we don’t have any here! My cat brings me about a mouse a day (and sometimes 2 or a bird) and once ran with a live mouse in the house. We leave our side door open a crack for the other cat who likes to chill an inch outside the door so he snuck in with it very early one morning. My mom woke me up but luckily after a few minutes it ran back outside! I’m more scared of the live birds when he has them (they flap everywhere) but i’d freak if he had a lizard in his mouth LOL especially since there are none around here! Well, I live in upstate NY, so I’m sitting in my apartment listening to the torrential downpour outside from Hurricane Irene. I don’t think that I’ll be going out or “doing anything fun” today! 🙂

What are your favorite stores to buy clothes?
    Kohls and Old Navy.
    Do you ever wear headbands?
    No, they give me headaches.
Do you know how to write in cursive?
    Yes, but not prettily.
How many plants do you have in your house?
    None. I have two cats.
Have you ever seen a cat attack a lizard (would you like to?)?
Not in person, no. I wouldn’t especially like to, but it wouldn’t bother me if I did.
What are you doing with your makeup today?
Nothing! (See answer to first question RE: Hurricane Irene.)

I have a cold this weekend, so the only time I’ll be leaving the house is to get more Sudafed at Walgreens. Sadness! On the other hand, I just got in the box set of all of the episodes of “Lost”, so a day watching great TV while sipping on soup and tea may not be too bad.

I’m not just a crazy cat lady, I’m cray cray about my plants, too. Not just the ones planted in the yard and the raised beds, I have a TON in post and hanging baskets. There aren’t too many inside since one of my cats likes to eat (and subsequently expel) leaves, but still! In the living room there are two hanging and three in pots. In the front of the house there are four in pots. Not so bad, right? In the back yard there are 5 hanging baskets and seventeen (17!) in pots. Believe it or not, there used to be more. When we bought this place I started moving some of the potted plants into the ground. Keeping them watered in summer is a chore!

I rarely ever wear headbands, because I feel like a lot of them give me headaches – and I have thin, fine hair, so they’re flat enough without a headband pushing them down more. I do know how to write in cursive, and I have a cactus plant, :). I’ve been breaking out lately, so today I’m just keeping my makeup light and basic to give my skin a break.

First off a couple weeks ago I was soooo excited to see Karen on my MAC e-mail and immediately ordered her lip gloss. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it – natural look with just the right amount of color!!!! Second, today I got my brows done at my local Benefit Brow Bar – and I just LOVED it! It was such a great experience. They did a great job and even touched me up with some Benefit makeup afterwards. The gloss they put on my was nooky nooky I believe- very natural looking and not too sticky at all. What I am really interested in is if anyone has used Coralista or Sugar Bomb and what you think of them? I’m considering getting something….any input?

PS – Thanks for the giveaway!!!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
