Super Cool Find: The Finery Jewelry and Home Objects in New Orleans

June 10th, 2015 by Karen 22 Comments

One of my favorite things to do on vacation is shop for trinkets and baubles.

(I am probably not alone in this.)

That way, back at home, whenever I see or wear said bauble (or sometimes they’re doohickeys), I’m reminded of my time on the trip.

Today I picked up a couple of cute pieces of jewelry from a chic shop called The Finery. It’s located in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans, just off Magazine Street, which is a popular shopping area with cafes and lots of antique and clothing stores.

Incidentally, it’s about two blocks from author Anne Rice’s former New Orleans home…

Back to The Finery, they carry jewelry by indie designers, both local and from other parts of the country. The style is sort of modern minimalist, and their pieces are pretty affordable, too.

I grabbed two things from a local designer named Neko — the Small Arc earrings ($24) and the Arc necklace ($32).

If you like what you see, The Finery is located at 1933 Sophie Wright Place in New Orleans. Say hi to Nicki, the owner, for me while you’re there. She’s really friendly and easy to talk to, and she’ll give you the 411 on everything the store carries and the indie designers. Also, lots more pics on her Instagram page.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

What an adorable find! This is also one of my favorite things to do on vacation, boutiques just have such character and charisma that the average department store totally lacks!

What a cute shop with some great pieces. I like more subtle pieces of jewelry, so I’d definitely get something like this. And Anne Rice’s (previous) house is gorgeous! Wow. Can you imagine living in a home like that?!

That’s so awesome! Reminds me of a store I went to in Portland (called Betsy and Iya) that had jewelry by smaller designers. They also made their own jewelry in house too which was cool.

How fun! I like getting trinkets and things that can’t be found back home!

Jewelry is the very best thing to buy on vacation because it’s so portable.
I remember a Christmas we went to St. Louis to visit our families and I hit Restoration Hardware, which we don’t have in Maine, pretty hard. I was having them ship stuff to me in Maine, to my office no less, left and right.
    Looks like a fun place!

I love shopping for jewelry on vacation too! I did it unconsciously last time the Boy and I went to Victoria from Vancouver but I think I’m going to make it a more conscious decision next time we go somewhere special 🙂

I usually shop for makeup whenever we are away, but then again I do shop for makeup all the time, so maybe this isnt too special.

Looks like you are “doin’ it right”. LOL I love getting a piece of jewelry when I’m somewhere special. I think it’s interesting that Neko means cat – how cool is that?
I forgot to mention Bourbon French Perfumes…that is a fun little store too.

That’s the neighborhood I couldn’t remember the name of: Garden District! thank you. When I was there ages ago, Anne Rice was still living there. (She’s not dead, is she?) Love the jewelry you got! And at a very good price. Love the architectural look of the pieces. There used to be lots of antique shops. Are there still?

I could be wrong (wouldn’t be the first time!) but I thought that Sandra Bullock bought Ann Rice’s NOLA mansion?? Maybe a different one, not sure…

oooh, i live near finery but i’ve never been in there. i love the bolder pieces you’ve shown so i’ll have to check it out.

sandra bullock owns a different house in the garden district; was not owned by anne rice. anne rice moved to southern california several years ago.

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
