Tabs hopped up on the bed this morning shortly after dawn, as he usually does, mugging for lurvies. He has this very specific routine where he first walks around the top of the bed behind the pillows, then goes down between me and El Hub, and then from there he either attempts to place a possessive paw on top of my chest or El Hub’s. Then he tries to climb up on top of one of us for whisker and cheek scratches.
It rained every day this week, a lot, so Tabs didn’t get to go outside like he usually does, and I think he was starting to get depressed about it. He would climb up onto his window ledge and stare at the rain outside. Then he’d look back at me with the saddest tabby eyes. 🙁
But it was really pouring! There was no way he would have wanted to be out there in that rain anyway.
We’ve tried it before. We’ve gone outside when it was raining, but as soon as one of his delicate paws touched the wet ground, he started mewling like he was saying, “Why? Why is this happening? Why!?”
When I saw that it wasn’t raining this morning, I quickly grabbed his harness, and we went for a walk outside.
Because of the rain, the hills are green and lush right now, and everything’s growing.
We inspected the entire perimeter but didn’t spot any intruders, so then it was time for brunch. Tabs had the green salad, of course.
I’m serious, he ate so much grass! I couldn’t get him to stop. Maybe he was thinking, “Well, if you aren’t gonna mow this lawn…”
I’m sure the hill looked different to him because of how green and vibrant everything is. There are more birds than usual, too. The extra water brings out so much life. We’ve been seeing more deer, squirrels, birds and opossums lately — all kinds of things — and Tabs probably watches them through the windows in the house.
I’m glad the rain let up long enough for Tabs to enjoy some time outside. Along with playing chase, and eating bacon, and gravy, and getting lurvies, and doing kitty modeling, going outside is one of his favorite things in the world. 🙂

Karen

Did you have to work to get Tabs to use the harness? I don’t think my big guy would know what to do!

I hear you about the rain. Nora wanted to go out so badly this week. I held open the door and she darted out really fast, until she hit the spot where the porch cover ends and she was getting rained on and her paws were wet. She high tailed it and ran right back into the house.
We definitely needed all that rain, but it’s nice having some sunshine today.

Aw, poor Tabs! I’m glad you got him out for a walk.
You should have seen our bunnies when we had our big freeze and they were inside for more than a week. It wasn’t pretty. lol
