Gardening can be a very effective team-building exercise for feline-run small businesses. Here at Makeup and Beauty Blog, a subsidiary of Tabs the Cat Industries LLC, all employees are required to spend at least 15 minutes per day fraternizing outside with the feline management in the employee lounge/deck garden.
Above is a copy of a brochure that outlines some of the plants we have. 🙂
The policy was instituted two years ago, and at that time the garden was small — mostly catnip and zinnia flowers in large planters — but it has steadily expanded. Today there are some plants for the company cats AND some plants for their human assistants. It’s one of my favorite things about working here.
Tabs is such a demanding kitty employer that I probably would have lost my sh*t by now and quit if it hadn’t been for our quality bonding time in the garden, where we can both just let our hair down and have fun.
Who is Tabs the Cat?
About seven years ago I befriended a stray, flea-bitten tabby cat with a bad case of worms. I could see he’d fallen on hard times, but his profound knowledge of high fashion and department store cosmetics led me to believe that he was more than meets the eye. We became fast friends, and now he’s actually my boss (and a successful kitty model). -Karen
I highly recommend it for any cat-operated small business. 🙂

This is great. I’m finally going to start a deck garden. Karen which flowers do you recommend the most for someone who doesn’t have a green thumb? What are the easiest ones to grow?
Karen says
Hi Sarah,
Cat mint is really easy! You may want to start with that first.

CATMINT! Bee Balm too. Cats love them both!
Karen says
I don’t think I’ve heard of Bee Balm. What is it?

Cute! What program did you use to make your brochure, Karen?
Karen says
Hi Baby A,
Actually, Tabs did everything. 🙂
He used Adobe Illustrator for the “A Cat’s Guide” logo at the top and Adobe Photoshop CC for the sections of plants.

Love the sunhat! I’m so behind on gardening… Jiji isn’t super into the ‘nip, but I might have to try cat grass!
