The Sephora VIB sale starts soon (woo-hoo, 20%!), which means hot little hands will be poised atop keyboards and ready to take the plunge on November 10th. A few of you guys have been asking for some sale recommendations, and I gotta tell you is that my own personal list is always pretty boring. I stock up on the same things that I know I’ll use over and over again throughout the year, like Rita Hazan Root Concealer Touch-Up Spray, Kate Somerville Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion, Caudalie Hand Cream and Body Lotion and Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil.
Seriously, so boring…
Oh! — I’m also gonna get some Shiseido Facial Cotton, because I recently discovered them, and they’re bomb.
There are a few things I’ve been wanting to try that are on my lust list, like Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Body Butter (I heard about this from a few friends. It comes in a bunch of different scents, and I like the ingredient list.), and, of course, Tom Ford’s $85 Nude Dip quad, which I’ve been drooling over FOREVER.
I think the VIB sale (BTW, here’s some info about Sephora’s Beauty Insider program if you’re interested) is a good opportunity to not only spring for things you’ve been wanting to try for a while, but it’s also a great time to stock up on everyday items at a discounted price.
Aaaand speaking of that, here are some things I use all the time and swear by, and they’re all available — yay! — at Sephora.
- Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer
- Benefit 24-HR Brow Setter Shaping & Setting Gel
- NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base
- NARS Isolde Duo
- NARS Cordura Duo
- Hourglass Vanish Seamless Foundation Stick
- Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat
- Hourglass Panoramic Lip Liner in Eden
- NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 30
- Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done Hybrid Foundation
- Tom Ford Cream Color for Eyes in Burnished Copper and Spice
- Surratt Beauty Relevée Lash Curler
- Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Shiseido Ibuki Quick Fix Mist and Make Up For Ever Mist and Fix Setting Sprays
- NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments in American Woman, Walk This Way and Slow Ride
Sephora also sells literally hundreds of fragrances, which I’m sure you already know, and the VIB sale is a great time to buy fragrances, not only for yourself, but as gifts for other people (the holidays are right around the corner).
If you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing fragrance with epic appeal across different age groups — mom, mom-in-laws, daughters, friends, coworkers, everyone! — check out Fresh Life by Fresh, Tocca Bianca and Modern Muse by Estée Lauder.
Scent is totally personal, obvs, but those three are eminently gift-able. They’ve never let me down. And if you know anybody who likes masculine scents, try Clean Velvet Flora and Ellis Brooklyn Sci Fi.
If you need more Sephora VIB recommendations, let me know! I’m happy to help.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Don’t forget that if there’s something you want at the sale, but it’s out of stock at the time, Nordstrom does price matching.
I’m just sayin’. 😉

love you flying about!
Karen says
Hi Nerr,
Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could all do that in real life? LOL! Happy Friday.

Keep an eye on QVC for the Josie Maran body butter. They’re having specials all the time at good prices. Do you have any facial moisturizer or oil recommendations?
Karen says
Hi Lisa,
I’d be happy to recommend a facial moisturizer or a face oil. What type of skin do you have?
Lisa says
Dry cheeks and an oily t zone. Still getting chin breakouts ?. I love Sunday Riley tidal but I’d like a less expensive alternative. Thanks!

Just noticed, is that you flying around the photo? LOL! BTW, I bought the Josie Maran whipped body butter last year and I love them, they’re not as thick as body creams but still moisturizing.

I love your humor, Karen! You are a superwoman that flies above Sephora lol! What an awesome animation! Made my day! Great recommendations also! Yay to 20%!!!

I just bought both Nars and MAC eyeshadow primers from the Ulta coupon, so I’m good there. I want to go in and swatch some things before the sale starts – namely the glittery Kat Von D lipstick (for performances) and Laura Mercier Eye Basics (I got a deluxe sample and it seems really nice). I’ll also stock up on hand masks and undereye masks. I’m trying to keep in mind that they usually do a $20 off $50 coupon in December for VIB too.
Nude Dip is so tempting. I’m wanting to simplify and have fewer eyeshadows because I have a bunch I rarely or never use.
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
I remember using Eye Basics back in the day in Wheat and liking it for wear time. I don’t recall it really brightening up shadows as much as the NARS one does though. Still a good product, especially if you tend to wear a lot of muted neutrals.
Nude Dip is WAAAY tempting! Everyone who I know has it loves it.
Chelsea says
Yeah, I’ve been using the Eye Basics as kind of a too-lazy-for-real-eyeshadow product!

Oh, I just laughed happily at you flitting around the screen. HAHA! Reminded me of a speeded up version of the Talking Heads’ And She Was video. Do you remember that? 🙂 I have to get my VIB list together, too. I do try to get the big ticket items and the stuff I used daily, like you. Sadly, I might need a new Clarisonic. It’s lasting fewer than a month between charges. 🙁

Nordstrom does price matching? Best tip ever!!!

Karen! I laughed out load at you flying over Sephora!!! Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all do that? lol. I just placed a way too big sephora rouge sale order…stocked up on my essentials that I always go through and also splurged on a few things including the new Anastasia Prism palette and the Amika Blowout Babe Thermal Brush which I am super intrigued by. I love your picks as well!
Amy says
Uh oh! Nude Dip is now in my Loves. We’ll see if it makes it into my basket. There are a couple of Marc Jacobs eye brushes I am considering. I hope to get to a store tomorrow and do some swatching as well. (Rouge starts today)

So many things in my cart, so little money…
Seriously, though, I’m stocking up on my beloved FAB skincare products, some Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, and venturing into the world of highlighters with some Becca Vanilla Quartz pressed highlighting powder. (Also, I’m cheating on Sephora over at Ulta and getting a Tarte blush palette.)
Any recommendations on best lip liner?
Barb says
Just went today and picked up the staples (Clinique Take the Day Off Balm, a new Beauty Blender, the Beauty Blender Cleanser, Bumble and Bumble Sumo Clay), grabbed the Tarte Tartlette Toasted palette, the ColourPop Golden State of Mind palette and 2 packets of the Sephora clay masks. I love their masks and you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend!

The Surratt Beauty Relevée Lash Curler has be listed as out of stock forever, I was hoping it’d be in stock for the sale, but when I placed my order early this morning it was still listed as out of stock. I was going to order more Shiseido cotton, but I found two packs in my drawer when I was packing toiletries for my trip, so I decided not to order yet another one.
Nude Dip!! One of my two all-time favorite Tom Ford quads. It’s so versatile and I end up using it along side so many other palettes and shadows. (Still wishing they bring back Enchanted so I can snag one of them).
Happy weekend everyone!!
Pamela says
You MUST try the Josie body butters! I like that all the scents are mild so no need to worry about competition with your fragrance. Sephora has a mini two pack with a pumpkin scented one. Delish!!

I do kind of wish that your links were set to open in a new tab. I always forget that they don’t and and then I forget to go back instead of closing the window. But, whatever. It would be a more convenient feature, in my humble opinion, but that’s just me. Whatever works.
Great list! I’m thinking of the Too Faced Peach Face Powder, and the UD metal vs matte lip palette.
