Saturday Tomfoolery (Plus a Bit O’ Beauty)

Heya, girls. Sorry for not popping by sooner, but I needed a lil’ break from the computer today.

How’s it going? What’s new in your neck of the woods?

My dinner date with J-Money and C-Money (old friends from elementary school) last night was a lot of fun.

rumblefish

We had sushi at this place called Rumblefish in SF.

The sushi was frickin’ fastastic and literally melted in my mouth. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, you gotta check it out. Kinda pricy at about $30 per person, but if you like sushu, it’s cream of the crop.

bliss-spa

J-Money came armed with gifts! For being bridesmaids at her wedding last November, she gave me and C-Money gift certificates to the Bliss Spa, YES! I can’t wait!

aquis-microfiber-towel

We also got these cool Aquis Hair Towels from H2O+, which are these magical towels able to absorb way more water than regular shower towels. I’m serious. They’re like the Bounty of the shower towel world…

cacharel-minis

…and a snazzy gift set of mini-Cacharel perfumes — Anais Anais, Promesse, Amor Amor, LouLou and Noa. She got them while in Paris on business last month (how fancy!) Cute, huh?

So how was your day? Mine was filled with high-intensity lethargy and synergistic nothingness, LOL!

I did have some ginger pancakes for brunch here in Sausalito and then caught up on US Weekly and Cat Fancy at the bookstore. Yup, can’t say it’s been among my more productive afternoons.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Here’s a random question, but what’s your take on Twitter? I haven’t used it yet because it reminds me of instant messaging, and I don’t think my life is that exciting. Honestly, it’s just barely exciting enough for a blog…

Oooh cool! I’ll definitely try out the restaurant if I ever go to SF. Haha I can never get sick on Japanese food.

And going to a spa sounds wonderful. I hope you enjoy your time there! 😀

I guess I don’t really know much about twitter, but from what I’ve seen and heard its pretty lame.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the fact that it seems we can’t go five minutes without communicating with the important people in our lives anymore. I text message and phone my mom every day, I text my boyfriend all the time, my friends, my siblings… What happened to the days when you went to work, and you didn’t talk to your family again until you got home from work. Now I’m so obsessed with knowing whats going on that I call my boyfriend on my way home from work… Its ridiculous… I think twitter just perpetuates that obsession with knowing what every person in your life is doing every second of the day.
I dunno, I guess some people really like it. I think its just a it much. I’m old fashioned I guess lol.

      Hi Briana,

LOL… I wish I could get my mom to text. I don’t think she knows how to even turn on her cell phone.

This is gonna make me sound ancient, but back in the day when I was in high school the way that you communicated with your friends was by writing them letters and leaving the notes in their lockers. Soooo old school. I have ancient letters from J-Money and C-Money that are like, 15 years old.

Yah, a lot of people like it because they can follow their favorite musicians and celebs. I have read, though, that some people actually hire others to twitter for them. Crazy, right?

Girl, you were like 2 blocks away from me. Literally. I am on 26th Avenue. I have been wanting to try that sushi place but I am picky with my sushi. Now I am definitely gonna try it.

I am on Twitter and enjoy it. I follow different types of people – beauty, tech, tea, music, local & celebrities. The best thing to do is try it and see if it’s for you. I joined over a year ago and when I first joined, I didn’t get it either. My life isn’t as exciting as Ashton & Demi but I have found some great people on there. One way that it is useful for me is for example if I am at Sephora and want to try a new product. I will tweet about it asking for Pros or Cons. You get almost immediate response. You basically get what you want out of it. Some people merely use it as a way to post their new blog entries. To me, that is what a rss reader is for. Some of the Sugar girls are on there and you can have combos with them about the latest thing they just posted.

I love the Outer Richmond. I used to live out there and really miss it. 🙂 You should definitely hit up Rumblefish. Just thinking about it makes me hungry.

Thanks for the input on Twitter. I still dunno if it’s gonna me my thang, but it does sound like it can be useful.

I’m not really sure about Twitter. I know tons of people are doing it now and I guess for a blog like yours it’d be a quicker way of interacting with your readership but for me personally I doubt I’ll bother. I’m struggling to update my blog and post status updates on Facebook!

      Hi Karen B.,

Omigosh, it’s good stuff. It really depends on the restaurant, but I usually like getting a few rolls like yellowtail, tuna and if they have it the Spider Roll (soft shell crab). Nigiri — slices of fish on top of rice — is great too. I like salmon and tuna. You’ll know if it’s good fish when it just melts in your mouth.

Now I’m hungry for sushi again, LOL!

OMG. Please post about Bliss spa when you go! I really wanted to book a facial last summer when I was in SF but I was just too busy with all the internship stuff. Also… do you think I could appreciably dry my hair better w/ that microfiber towel in the morning? If so… it’s going on my list.

Oh, you totally gotta go to the Bliss spa. I did a review of it a while back: Bliss Spa Review in SF. They give you brownies and let you watch Sex and the City while you’re getting your pedi on. It’s a lil’ slice of heaven.

My weekend has ROCKED so far! I met up with my dad’s band manager’s best friend and his daughters at Universal Theme Park for a solid 6 and a half hours! My dad has connections – he’s a good friend of the guy that books all the talent acts at the park – so we all got complementary tickets and express passes. Since we were able to jump to the front of lines, we hopped aboard about fifteen or so rides and attractions!
Side note: I’ve tried the Noa perfume sample in a French perfume sampler with Ralph Lauren, Tresor, and two other samplers, and I don’t think the Noa smelled all that great. Cute packaging though. (It looks like a pearl!)

My weekend has been super mellow. I tried acupuncture yesterday for the first time and it was really nice, so I just chilled all day. Today I think I am going to try and find some great (fashionable) waling shoes for my London rip next month!

Ok so here’s my take on Twitter. At first I was like, hmm I’ll just check it out but I’m not sold. Then I got hooked! The thing about it is, you learn so much info about other blogs or news, etc. that you don’t hear about otherwise! It’s all about who you follow and so many bloggers are on there (and marketing people) that I find I am observing other people’s “Tweets” more than I am posting. But I do post some things and now Sammy has his own Twitter account also 🙂 I also got the hubbie into it now and he HATED it 2 weeks ago LOL!

I’ve been so unsure about the Twitter thing myself as well. I did set up an account one day & then never went back. I just can’t think about what I have in my life that is so fascinating to twitter about that someone would want to follow. “Alarm went off, getting up for work.” “My daughter Ava threw up…she’s sick.” “Doing laundry this Sunday afternoon.” “My son Dylan needs a diaper change.” You see..it would just be soo boring. And i hear people really do tweet a play-by-play of their every move & that is just too weird for me. Kind of takes the words “private life” & flushes them down the toilet.

I’ve twittered a little bit but nothing all that exciting has happened. I’ve found that you can post updates from your phone/blackberry via SMS which is pretty cool. I still don’t really have that much to say!

At the moment i’ve only got a few followers and people I’m following so maybe it’ll change when those numbers grow. I’ll update you in a couple of weeks and let you know how its all going!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
