Hey there, sweet pea. Happy Caturday!
I have a theory that if there’s ever anything I’ve felt or believed, chances are, someone else out there has felt or believed it too, soooooo…let’s talk hair.
I know it’s insignificant in the universal scheme of things, but I’ve been feeling kinda low-grade “meh” lately because of various voracious viruses over the past month since Connor started preschool, and I’ve only really started feeling like myself again in the last few days, so yesterday I forced myself to style my hair for the first time in weeks, even though I really just wanted to put it up in a messy bun and forget about it…
But you know what? I feel so much more functional when my hair is done.
Is that weird?
It’s like when I wear pajamas all day long… Whenever I do it, I feel crappy and unmotivated to do anything at all, and apparently it’s the same way for me with hair. When I take the time to style it and do at least a little something to smooth my bangs and curl a few pieces framing my face, I feel better and more capable of heading out into the world.
Anywho…are you like that too?
By the way, the base makeup I’m wearing here is the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Liquid Concealer and Genius Magic Powder combo I talked about the other day, and I just have to say it again: It’s SO GOOD. Also, the lipstick is MAC Powder Kiss in Sultriness. 🙂

I’d eat these snacks late at night, but I probably wouldn’t make them, LOL!
I just discovered Kim Soane (she’s a makeup artist for Bobbi Brown), and I’m just a wee bit obsessed with her.
I was in the car the other day and heard this song for the first time in years. Yes, I lost my damn mind, LOL!
Have a good day today, OK? See ya later.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
That’s not just you! I instantly feel more awake and prepared for anything when I’ve got my makeup on and I’m wearing “real” clothes, ha ha! Lately my hair has been mega meh- I think I’m just going to chop it all off again – much to my boyfriend’s dismay Ba ha ha
Hey Savannah,
Glad it hear it’s not just me. 🙂 How short are you thinking of going? Remember, it’s going to be winter soon, so if you’re going really short then you’ll have to invest in some scarves.
Absolutely no to the side-split jeans; I’ve seen that in dress pants, too. I can’t think of a single job I’ve had that would allow their employees to wear that.
Yes to the Origins lippies, though- that’s exciting. I love that Bobbi Brown tutorial, also. So easy! Those will definitely go on my Sephora shopping list.
I have all four girls today. My oldest and I are doing a practice run on Homecoming dance hair and makeup. We’ve just about blown up Pinterest looking for hair ideas and tutorials, lol.
Ya know, I would think that the side split would be mostly annoying for me. I think feeling the fabric flapping back and forth would drive me nuts. Plus wouldn’t it be cold? lol
I’ve been digging around and Kim Soane has her own beauty channel on Youtube. It’s not as high production as the Bobbi Brown tutorial but she has some good info: Beauty By Soane. Enjoy!
Ahh, have fun with the girls today! Re: Pinterest. Honestly the best way I’ve found to handle it is to set a timer, otherwise I’ll end up going down this rabbit hole and will be overwhelmed by the choices. Have you gals made a decision yet?
Oh my goodness- that song is a blast from the past. I just had to look up the Footloose Soundtrack (so many feel good songs)and there are a couple other songs on there that taking me back- “Almost Paradise “- “Dancing in the Sheets”. Thanks for posting.
It’s good to see I’m not the only one who is feeling like she wants to chop her hair. Maybe something with the changing of the seasons.
I heard Almost Paradise last week on easy listening station (it’s the only one I can handle when there’s bad traffic, ha ha ha). Did you ever watch the Footloose remake? It’s actually really good!
I think that if you’ve been thinking about cutting your hair for a while, go for it! Just know that if you cut it super short (like if your neck is exposed), you’ll need a few new scarves. 🙂
Wow! I thought your pic was another throwback pic from when you first started your blog—you look so young! If that’s the Charlotte Tilburry effect, I may HAVE to get it. Does the concealer crease and does it and the powder look dry under the eyes at all? You look wonderful.
Thanks, Kate. 🙂 The concealer does not crease and the powder doesn’t look dry under the eyes. Best thing you barely have to use any of it (so you can really stretch it out)! I use the smallest amount and I get good coverage. Let me know if you have any other questions about either product. Happy to help!
Okay I’m super curious about this concealer now! I also just ordered that Avène Cleansing Lotion you mentioned a while back. My skin is so sensitive right now so I’m trying to do w minimal, kindler, gentler, simpler routine.
Thanks for the Amazon Prine note! I have Prime and am at Whole Foods all the time since there’s one close to my office. No split jeans for me, and the waxing note was interesting! I’ve never done any face waxing because my skin is super delicate.
Jiji has a kitty princess bed he sometimes sleeps in but he’s usually just in our bed LOL. He’s also a fan of the papasan chair. Gotta diversify your napping locations!
I hope you love the cleansing lotion! It’s really good. I took a break from it for a while (have been using Cetaphil) but I’ll probably switch back.
My husband’s rule is, even if I’m sick or working from home I can’t stay in my PJ’s past 10 a.m. Unless of course I can’t seem to get out of bed at all.
So totally agree about the doing your hair thing and not wearing pjs all day. Wearing them all day makes me feel sort of depressed, like I’ve got flu or something. The other thing that instantly makes me feel like I’m In Control and can face the world is mascara…
PS Just want to say that I always really appreciate the interesting things you find for us on Saturday Surfin’. I look forward to it and of course, Sundays with Tabs is right up there with my weekend favourites!
Hi Sarah,
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoy the roundups, and of course, the pictures of Tabs. I love that you love him as much as I do.
I’m with you 100%! I just did that yesterday for the first time in I don’t know how long and I felt crappy for the entire day!
I knew I couldn’t be the only one! I just finished doing my hair (it’s early Monday morning here) and am already in my clothes for the day and feel so good already.
I hope you have a good week, Lisa!
