Hiya, friend. Good morning from beautiful Cambria on the Central California coast. I’m here for a few days for a short birthday trip. Hearst Castle is 15 minutes away, and we’re headed there for a tour soon.
I’ve had this quote from Coco Chanel bookmarked for a while, and it’s been on my mind for a couple of days because I’ve been thinking a lot about gratefulness. When I remember to be grateful for everything and everyone in my life, the lighter my soul feels and the fuller my well becomes.
And it’s not just about being grateful for the good things. That’s easy. I think it’s harder to remember that even the challenges in life are chances to learn, so I try to remember to don my gratefulness goggles to learn how to be more empathetic, kinder, patient and graceful.
Speaking of things I’m grateful for today and every day… Thank you for stopping by. I know that you could spend this moment on your weekend reading anything you want, but you chose to stop by MBB, and that’s a precious gift — the gift of someone’s time, and I’m so grateful for it.
- Is it just me, or is Target doing a major push to expand their beauty section? It seems like every week they have a new line I’ve never heard of before. The latest is London-based Makeup Obsession, a brand known for affordable, pigmented products. Their Gloss is about $6, palettes are between $10 and $15, and highlighter is $5.
- These are the best makeup vanities, according to interior designers. Some of them are decently affordable, too.
- In case you were wondering what a memoji is…
- My makeup boo, Sir John, has a new collection collab coming out with a Disney Lion King movie theme.
- 4 makeup artists break down their personal skin care routines
- And because I’m not-so-secretly obsessed, here are 12 of Meghan Markle’s favorite beauty products.
- This is what happens when you empower an AI neural network to name cats.
- The state of New York has banned declawing cats.
- Does one really need sunscreen for their hair?
Been bouncing to this all week long
Love me some Mel Robbins
You’re welcome.
Oh, and before I leave for a bit, FYI, just in case you didn’t know, if you tell a three-year-old little girl who’s obsessed with Disney princesses that you’re going to “Hearst Castle,” she’s going to repeatedly ask if she’s going to meet Belle, Jasmine and Cinderella. 🙂
Have a wonderful rest of your weekend. Talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Target is crazy with the beauty offerings! I can’t keep up! Enjoy your day!
I’m stopping by because it is always a good time reading your posts! Thanks for being so cute, kind, and real. And I always look forward to Saturday Surfing posts!
I miss Target. It’s too bad it wasn’t more popular here! (Canada).
I’m shopping for a makeup vanity! We are moving and I want a nice one. I love that Anthropologie one! Ugh … Anthropologie gets me 💖, but not my wallet. LOL. I think I’m going to go with an Alex desk from Ikea.
Yay for banning declawing of cats! More places need to start that. Their claws are so much more important to them than just scratching.
I never put sunscreen in my hair because I love the highlights I get from the sun!
This blog is my happy place, especially on Saturdays. The links are always awesome! If you’re wondering who is buying hair sunscreen the answer is blondes. I’m a blonde and I always use UV filter on my hair. If I don’t I end up with white, straw-like hair. The sunscreen keeps it from bleaching out too much.
Okay, so it seems I’m going to be giving my money to Target and Sir John in the near future. 💲💸💰
I laughed so hard at that last bit about Connor. That is exactly what my two littles would think. And there would be major drama when we got there and no princesses were in sight. “But you said castle.” “That doesn’t mean…” “But you said CASTLE!!!!!”
I’m in the not so secret Meghan Markle obsessed club, with you on that! And absolutely look forward to your posts and links on the weekends. Part of my Saturday ritual. Have a fantastic getaway and good luck at the Castle when you explain the Princesses are away on vacation too 😉
I heard someone playing Lil Kim Crush on You downtown from their car today and I thought of you.
Some good reads this week! I got my vanity off Craigslist and love the three way mirror it has (it’s missing a small chunk because Mina Ballerina knocked it over a few times LOL) I used to have an antique Art Deco vanity but after multiple moves it was in sad shape.
I always love Saturday Surfing’ and thanks for looking out all the interesting things you do for us – especially the cat-related ones!
Karen, could you somehow find a way to work Keanu into every post? I would be forever grateful. : )
Hope you have a wonderful birthday Karen!!
Happy birthday Karen so happy u were able to get away and spend it with the people u love most. Our almost three yr old grandson is the same he will ask something over and over till u tell him ok let’s go. Lol. I’ve learned to be grateful for the good things in my life but even more grateful for being alive this past GE I was diagnosed with my sixth autoimmune disease which was Addison’s disease. I’m dependent on meds for life for all my energy. So I’m grateful for those meds and the meds for all of my other ones too. It will be twenty five hrs ago in Halloween day that I was hit by a drunk driver and my life changed forever. I was thankful than that I didn’t die that day as my son was four yrs old and I was 26. My steokjds were 9,6,5. So it’s good to remember and be grateful for everything in life. Live reading all of your articles as u always bring a smile to my face. Hugs
