Hi, friend! Happy Caturday. To get your weekend started right, here’s a shot of my torbie girl’s toebeans:
I’ve made it my mission in life to accurately capture the colors of her toebeans in pics, because, quite frankly, they’re pawsome. The bottom of her feet are calico! How cute is that!?
Speaking of my girls, this week Connor Claire had one last “hurrah” with her former classmates from the honeybee class at preschool.
They held a social distance graduation for the four-year-old class in the parking lot, and gosh…it’s amazing how fast kids grow at this age. They all look so different than they did a few months ago! The girls who had long hair have even longer hair now, and everyone looks taller.
Preschools and summer camps are starting to reopen here now, but El Hub and I still aren’t sure what to do or how to handle it. Like so many families across the country, we’re weighing the risks and our own family circumstances. It’s hard to plan when there are so many things out of your control.
Sigh… Just taking things one day at a time.
On a lighter note…I tried a new dinner recipe for sheet pan baked sweet and sour meatballs, and the fam LOVED it. 🙂 Connor kindly offered her sous chef expertise by mixing the sweet-and-sour sauce and rolling the meatballs! If you’re looking for an easy dinner you can make with a little one, this one’s perfect. VERY KID FRIENDLY!
The dish was so good that I forgot to take a snapshot beforehand, LOL! I ate my meatballs with Trader Joe’s Riced Cauliflower Stir Fry, and El Hub and Connor had it with white rice. I’m going to make some more today and double the recipe so I can freeze some for later.
- Puig, the Spanish company behind Paco Rabanne perfumes, just spent $1.5 billion dollars to acquire a majority stake in Charlotte Tilbury makeup. I wonder how this will effect the line, which is one of my faves!
- A brief history of the makeup looks that defined rock and metal music. (Insert head bang right *here*.)
- Never thought I’d ever type this sentence: How to adjust your makeup routine when wearing a face mask.
- After I read this article — “A Scented Diary of a Lockdown” — in The New York Times, I walked into my bathroom, grabbed EL Hub’s Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, and doused myself with it. LOL! Then I planned my perfumes for the rest of the week.
- Should you keep perfume in the fridge?
- If you’re looking to do a little shopping in the near future, may I suggest putting one of these 68 black-owned fashion and beauty brands on your radar? Or, perhaps one of the businesses on this list of 25 black-owned beauty and fashion brands?
- Don’t forget to bookmark this list of 10 black-owned nail polish brands while you’re at it (note to self).
- Speaking of nail polish, these brands are supposed to be some of the sturdiest around.
- Skin care products to avoid if you’re going to attend a protest.
PRESS PLAY. You will not regret it.
Lots of things to learn here

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my friend. I hope you’re able to recharge your batteries.

Can’t believe how grown up Connor Claire is getting! And I love those torbie toebeans! My cat gal pal Paul had marble toebeans too.
I love this makeup of rock and heavy metal! I never wear much makeup at metal concerts because I’m too darn sweaty. There’s this kind of comedy parody of a late night show called Two Minutes to Late Night run by guys who are comedians and into heavy metal and it’s really fun if that’s your thing. Lots of the classic Black Metal makeup.
And I was a BIG fan of guys wearing eyeliner back in the day (might still be). The lead singer of a band my friends were in was wearing black eyeliner and women’s pants, and HOO BOY that was my type. The drummer who I liked had the most beautiful cheekbones, and with black eyeliner and long black hair, swoon. Guitarist was a guy who I used to kind of date.
I knew Ghost would be on that list – we’ve seen them three times, super theatrical and fun.
Karen says
I have a crush on Paul (please don’t tell Rosie).
I can see the allure of a dude in eyeliner and fitted pants rocking out on stage!
Chelsea says
Paul lives in San Francisco now, I miss her! If you get to the city, maybe you could do a girl’s night.
Jennifer Emmett says
OMG Fozzie Cent on repeat here now hell yeah. Fozz got moves… Uh uh yeah
Karen says
Isn’t he the best? I LOVE HIM.

Hi Karen!! Those meatballs look so yummy!! Connor Claire is getting so grownup looking. Why do they have to grow up so fast? LOL!! Also, I wanted to let you know that we finally adopted a new kitty the other week. The last cat we had was a foster, and was taken from us, back in April of 2019. Before that, our cat Smokey, a tabby Persian was with us for 14 years, before he passed. We were so in need of a new kitty. We adopted Ash from our local PetSmart. He is a blue gray long haired cutie. They think he is half Maine Coone. He is only about 18 months old, so he’s like a kitten. He adjusted to us, the day we got him. He’s so friendly and trusting. It was just what we needed. I don’t know how to post a picture here, but I’ll just say that the best way to describe him, is a long haired Russian Blue. I’m over the moon happy!!
Karen says
Hi Sherry!
Congrats on your new family member. I’m so happy to hear about Ash! You can always email a pic; I would love to see him. It’s karen at makeupandbeautyblog dot com.
May Smokey, your sweet boy, rest in paradise. I’m sure Tabs is hanging out with him at the rainbow bridge.

Oh, how I loved Green Day once upon a time. (Yeah, still do.) But they forgot Jack White from the White Stripes.
And speaking of bands, have you seen that James Patterson, the author, is partnering with Guns & Roses to write… wait for it… a children’s book based on Sweet Child O’ Mine?
Karen says
OK, well that’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard of, but it also in a weird way makes sense. LOL! Connor listens to a lullaby station before she goes to bed and there’s an instrumental of Sweet Child O’ Mine that’s very sweet.
What are you and the fam bam up to this weekend?
Suzanne C says
I made baked pasta for supper and I have a live special from one of my favorite podcasts later tonight, which I’ve been looking forward to all week. They always make me laugh and who doesn’t need that right now? (The Popcast, if anyone is interested.) Other than that, it’s been quiet. Lots of rain coming from a tropical storm that *thankfully* isn’t supposed to land here.
Karen says
Sounds wonderfully relaxing enjoy your pasta and your podcast! 🙂 It’s windy and cold here today (the weather has been crazy), so we’re staying in. I’m doing laundry and puttering around the house, and Connor and El Hub are watching a movie.
Sherry says
Oh by the way, thanks for posting the Patti Labelle song. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Yay!! Patti is the best!!
Karen says
You’re very welcome. I’ve been a Patti fan for years. She is one of the greats!
Tatiana says
What a great photo of you all on the sofa. Rosie looks the comfiest there. And those toe beans!!!
Pre-school graduation! Does this mean Connor will be a kindergartner in the fall?
Karen says
No, she has one more year. She graduated from the threes/fours class this year! It was bittersweet because the kids didn’t quite understand that they weren’t going back to the classroom.
I will try to do more toe beans pics soon, and will try to capture her paws with the blocks of orange and white fur and the pink toes.
Tatiana says
While you’re at it, can you capture pictures of fluffy belly fur, too? Lol. One of my favorite parts of a cat.
I miss having a cat, but my asthma does not.
I think the shelter in place is hard on kids. They don’t really understand why since the virus isn’t visible to the unaided eye, only the consequences when someone gets very sick from it. Not to mention they don’t get to see and interact with their friends. My trainer has said it’s been hard on her boys. No going to school, no after school soccer and no get togethers with their friends.
Karen says
Yes! Delicious belly meat!
It’s definitely been hard on her. Since she’s an only child she doesn’t really have anyone to play with besides the cat and us, and we’re the lamest kids ever. LOL.
How old are your trainer’s kids?
Tatiana says
Yeah, it’s hard when they’re the only. Dear Husband was much better at playing with Dear Daughter than I was.
My trainers boys are 7 and 10. She said at least they keep each other company. And they also have a dog.
Christine says
Connor Claire has her mom’s photogenic-ness. 😉
There is an artist who does felted wool animal replicas and she bakes the toe beans. I commissioned her to make a replica of my former boss’ late beagle, Buddy. She’s super talented. Her IG is at nodsukas.
