Heya, friend. ? Good morning and welcome to summer! It’s officially summertime in the Northern Hemisphere. On a normal year, Connor and I would be spending lazy days at the pool…
Our homeowners association pool just opened for the season, and I’ve seen a few of my neighbors lounging about, but I’m still deciding whether to brave the water. There’s a big sign on the front gate with all of the new COVID guidelines, and I’m a little nervous about running into, well…people. I joke all the time about how the lockdown has turned me into a bit of a recluse. I’m pretty outgoing under normal circumstances, but not so much now. ?
Am I the only one?

Why don’t you come over, Valerie?
This is so fun. ?
She does justice to my favorite Soundgarden song.
Another throwback fave…
I like doing this 5-minute workout to warm up my body.
Connor walked into my office while I was watching this and started cracking up! (“Mommy, *WHAT* are you watching?”)
I really wanted to bake today, but it’s supposed to be 80 degrees here, so I’m not sure I want to turn on the oven… Yes, I’m a weather wimp.
What are you up to this weekend? Doing anything for Father’s Day? We’re taking El Hub out to Marin French Cheese (it’s open again!) for a picnic. It’ll be nice to do something we haven’t done in a while.
Hope you’re doing something fun. Have a nice weekend.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I am not returning to the yoga studio anytime soon because–ujayyi breathing. Even singing spreads aerosols so I just can’t take the chance with everyone around me, even several feet away, deeply breathing in an enclosed space. 🙁 Home practice for the long haul.
I used to wear Crocs. Just…no.
This weekend just the Farmers Market in Kaka’ako to pick up local beef and making new masks with denim & canvas, recommended materials. Crossing fingers the tradewinds keep up! It’s been great.
Stay cool, enjoy your picnic, & Happy Fathers’ Day to El Hub and all the dads!

I wish it only got up to 80 here. Turn on your oven, life’s too short not to bake!
Karen says
It gets up into the 100s here now! When we moved here 10 years ago it was hot, but not nearly as hot as it gets now.
Chelsea says
It’s been around 90 the past few days and will be for the next few! Far too hot for me.
The article on fashion and beauty items that are and aren’t selling makes sense. I’ve all but given up on underwire bras for Cosabella bralettes, I’m wearing comfortable shoes, I’m not spending money on clothes since I’m working from home.
Karen says
I think I’ve reached that point in life where I’d rather be too cold than too hot! Never thought I’d get there, but I’m there. LOL
Tatiana says
Marin French Cheese is open again?!!! Yay!
Wow, Connor Claire has grown up so much! I love watching kids grow up! So keep posting those photos!
I kinda giggled when I saw the best browsers for black skin. A little typo makes me laugh.
Read the article on fashion. While I’m in no rush to get back into high heels, I think it would take a lot to get me to even consider crocs. I would appreciate more fashionable styles in comfortable shoes though. And I’d give anything to find a supply of comfy house slippers. Uggs just don’t do it for me anymore because the quality has gotten so bad. The fleece wears away in two weeks and you’re left with a hard insole. Not to mention my feet sweat something crazy in the summer.
Karen says
I try to keep typos to the minimum but I make mistakes all the time. 🙂 Such is life!
Yes, French Cheese is open and it was a lot of fun!

Correction: Your last link says “browsers” instead of “bronzers.”

Thanks for letting me know!

I just wonder if you have air conditioning, since you were concerned about 80 degree temperatures and indoor cooking. Where I live, 80 degrees would be considered cool for an outdoor temperature any time after April 30th, and very cool for any time after May 15th.
Karen says
That’s so nice of you to be concerned. We do have air conditioning, but only turn it on unless it’s really, really hot. Trying to do our best to save money and energy here and there.

Oh my!

I turned 42 yesterday and had a nice evening at home with the family. Some restaurants in my town do have outdoor seating and as nice as it would be to eat out, um no. So I kept it to getting curbside pick up from a local place. (I am even still doing my singing lessons via Zoom with my teacher, we just decided that was best for the foreseeable future, also can’t really sing with a mask on). Today for father’s day, my dad is cooking out on the grill so that will be nice. (I am a single lady currently living with her folks at the moment, anyone got a cute single brother, friend? HA!) After living in Chicago for 13yrs and now currently back in Kansas City I have decided my ideal temperature is 75 to 85 degrees. I also do enjoy Fall but after those Chicago Winters? Nope nope nope LOL!
Karen says
Happy birthday, Jennifer! I hope many great things happen to you this upcoming birthday year!
Jennifer says
Me too! Hopefully a job? Job hunting has been really weird, haha! That’s the best way to describe it. Ohhh I sent you a photo of my birthday cake on Instagram. To say this cake was AMAZING is an understatement. Ohmygosh! Eating this cake is self-care that’s HOW good it is! LOL!
Karen says
Job hunting during a pandemic is REALLY WEIRD. I just saw your cake (and sent you a message) and now of course I want a slice!
