Hello and welcome to the weekend, my friend!
In this umpteenth chapter of “Why, yes, I’m a crazy cat lady,” please allow me to point out 1) the marbling on Rosie’s front paw, 2) her orange patch (!) and 3) her two delicate pink toe beans.
I. Know.
I was able to snap this shot moments before she gently swatted my hand with her paw, which is her version of scratching my eyes out. She’s so very gentle…except when she isn’t trying to trip and murder me when I walk down the stairs…
You know how cats roll. If they aren’t about to end you, then they aren’t living their best life.
Anywho, this week was a good one. I celebrated my birthday by dipping my toes in the water at the beach (McNear’s in San Rafael, which is about 15 minutes south of here), and I officially stepped into my mid-40s wearing a pair of Air Jordans.
For my birthday meal, I wanted In-N-Out Burger, and so for the first time in months, I ate a meal that I didn’t have to cook myself. I would’ve taken a picture of my Double Double with grilled onions, but I was too busy scarfing it down, ha ha ha!
- Summer’s just around the corner, and if it’s hot in your neck of the woods, you might want to check out this list of makeup artist-approved sweat-proof products. I was happy to see that Marc Reagan was quoted in this piece! He did my makeup years ago for a Bobbi Brown event at Neiman Marcus, and he was just the nicest, most knowledgeable person.
- So *this* is how Charlotte Tilbury gets all-over coverage without using a lot of foundation.
- Sometimes I watch Bravo reality TV shows just so I can look at the makeup. (I can’t be the only one who does this!) This list features 22 talented black makeup artists behind Bravo’s iconic beauty looks. Yay! I have so many new artists to follow on Instagram now.
- Since we’re wearing a lot of masks these days, you may be wondering how to keep the skin under your mask healthy and keep what shows above it looking good? Here’s what the experts suggest doing.
- Sharon Chuter, founder of Uoma beauty, launched the #pulluporshutup campaign to push beauty brands to reveal the demographic composition of their workforce.
- Do you see any of your go-to lines in this list of 16 iconic French fragrance brands? I’m happy to see a couple of my favorites — Maison Francis Kurkdjian and Annick Goutal.

REGULATORS! MOUNT UP!
Some food for thought
Please talk me out of doing this. I’m about to order three pairs of scissors on Amazon!
SERIOUSLY. HALP.
Currently on repeat

I thinned my hair (seriously, I was getting headaches from the weight!) and when I finally got to the salon, my stylist said she wouldn’t have known I did it myself if I hadn’t told her. If I can do It, you can totally do it, girl!! And Brad Mondo’s was one of the channels I checked out before I did it.

Happy Birthday, Karen! So happy that you got your wished for Jordans. They are are way cool! Love the color. Glad you got to eat out for your birthday, Too. Very smart to do In-N-Out Burger. I am dying to go out to eat, but I am afraid it may be too much of a hassle yet. We did a refi on our mortgage today, and you should have seen all the precautions we had to go through just to sign the papers! But things are looking up here, because June 22 – The Library Reopens! Yay! Thank you for all the great links in today’s Saturday Surfing. Hope you enjoy the rest of your birthday weekend.

The Jordans are not gold but they are a LOVELY cool burgundy shade in which to tuck your robins egg blue toes.
Sesame Street is all things inclusive. *LOVE*
I’m like Sorelle Amore except I’m screaming “I’ll be 50, bishes!!”
btw, please note that Foodland Farms’ AHI LIMU and SPICY SALMON poke are verrrry ono. Mouth broken!
Happy Birthday weekend, Karen!
Karen says
Thank you, Christine!
P.S. “Ahi limu” sounded familiar so I looked it up, and YES!!! I’ve had it before. It is super good!

Sounds like great birthday! Digging your new birthday kicks! You sure don’t look like you’re in your 40’s. Aww baby girl is growing up so quickly. Thanks for the article on the black makeup artist. I’m going to follow some of them in hope of picking up some tips. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Karen! And may you be blessed with many more!!
Karen says
Thank you, Denise! 🙂
Yes, I can’t believe babygirl is already four! The time really does go by too fast.

Hi Karen!! Glad you had a great birthday!! Love those Air Jordan’s…very cool!! You sound like me, about your choice of birthday food. I always ask to get Shake Shake, because it’s my favorite burger. People think it’s weird that I don’t want something fancier, but I don’t care. I love my burgers!! LOL!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!!
Karen says
Believe it or not, I’ve only been to Shake Shack once! There’s one about 20 minutes away from me but it’s always crowded (In-N-Out is closer). I remember it being super good though. What’s your Shake Shack order?
Sherry says
Forgot to mention…nice toe beans, Rosie!!
Karen says
Rosie says thank you!

Those toe beans are SO BEAUTIFUL ?

I have to take a pic of her back paws next! She has even more orange back there, so more pink beans!
