Hey, hey, Caturday! Good morning. ? I’m reporting live from my bathroom today because I am out of eye cream…and it’s very distressing to me, because this appears to have happened suddenly, out of nowhere.
After hearing people rave about it for months, I bought a bottle of what I thought was a relatively large amount of Drunk Elephant C-Tango Multivitamin Eye Cream back in November, and I feel like I’ve only been using it for two seconds, but it’s gone. IT’S COMPLETELY GONE.
So I’m officially out of eye cream [SHUDDERS].
Like, how did this even happen?? I’ve been conservative with the C-Tango, too. I don’t even do a whole pump. I use half a pump!
Agh!
And that’s only part of the issue. What really bugs me is that this came out of nowhere. I usually keep a backup of mission critical items (like eye cream) on hand just in case, but I couldn’t tell how much of this one was left. There’s no way to tell from the bottle.
I mean, I like it as an eye cream well enough, but I’m not a fan of the packaging.
OH EM GEE.
Wait — I’m having a revelation. If I MacGyver this situation…
YES! I just popped off the top using brute force, and there’s a tiny bit left on the cap that I can grab with a Q-tip. ?
But now I’m REALLY sad because it’s officially gone.
While I go mourn the loss of my last eye cream, please enjoy the following links…
- Even with the recent beauty biz changes and the “Fenty effect,” according to Hollywood makeup artist Tym Buacharern (he’s worked with Jennifer Hudson, among many other stars), brands still have a long way to go when it comes to giving women of color more makeup options.
- I learned this micro-concealing technique from Lisa Eldridge (my fave!) years ago, and it’s one of my “go-to” techniques for skin that looks even-toned but not cake-y.
- How cool is this? —> Thirteen-year-old Tilly uses her 3D-printed bionic arms when she does makeup tutorials.
- Yes, Ryan Reynolds has a skin care routine. (Side note: Could he please text it to El Hub?)
- This skin care line was founded by MIT grads, and everything in it is less than $30.
- Could somebody please get me this triple chicken perfume bottle from the 1700s?!
I really want to try that L’Oréal foundation.
My girl!!
This looks like fun, and I love her tropical pink pants.
I might go back to the Fresh Black Tea eye cream now… I remember using it and liking it…and it lasting A LOT longer than this Drunk Elephant one did.
If you have an eye cream recommendation, BTW, please do tell! I desperately need one. ?
On that note, have a great rest of your weekend. Talk to you soon.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I had a deluxe sample of the Fresh Black Tea eye cream and I was tempted to buy because it smells so freaking good! I love the smell of tea.
Drunk Elephant’s marketing really annoys me, especially their social media. Also super pricey! I’m not using an eye cream right now because my eyes had been so prone to eczema this winter that I was using Aveeno Baby Eczema cream or even just straight up rose hip oils on my eyes. I’m thinking I should maybe start something more anti-aging.
Karen says
Hi Chelsea,
Everything in their Black Tea line has impressed me. I’m thinking I might go back to the tea and toner (which was also lovely).
What’s the plan for the weekend?
Chelsea says
I remember you liking the toner a lot!
Nothing too much! My wrist hurts from a non-circus-related workout and I thought we had tickets to something tonight but it was last weekend ? I think we’re going to get takeout and sit around.
Karen says
Yeah. I have no idea why I didn’t restock it. Probably got the itch to try something new, I guess?
Sitting around and having takeout is super relaxing and my idea of a good time at this point in my life, so enjoy it. Also, I hope your wrist feels better soon.
It’s coming up on 3 here and I just put Connor down for her afternoon nap; technically now we call it “rest time” because she doesn’t always fall asleep, so she’s allowed to read books quietly, listen to music and play with her stuffed animals in her bed. Anyway, that means now I get to have some me time. 🙂
Chelsea says
I took a nap around 3, it was great! Jiji snuggled up with me, he’s the best napping partner.
I’m always trying new things and then I don’t like them as much ?

The Paula’s Choice Clinical Ceramide-Enriched Firming Eye Cream is my new favorite!
Karen says
Awesome, thanks for the recommendation DR!

I can recommend Nuxe Creme Prodigieuse eye cream. That’s my go-to eye cream for the last 5 years. I like that when I wake up next morning, I really look relaxed. And I love the scent, although scented eye creams that does not cause irritation is not something you cannot easily find. I personally hate packagings with pumps as it retains a lot of residue product ? but Nuxe cream has similar mechanism to your Drunk Elephant cream bottle, so – when it’s empty, it’s basically indeed empty…
I, honestly, recently had a similar surprise with my perfume (subject of being timely replaced so – never empty). I wanted to apply my Narciso Rodriguez en Poudre and swore like hell because the perfume did not come out??. When I violently removed the sprayer, I concluded that the bottle is empty??
Karen says
Hi Lelde,
It’s getting harder and harder to find Nuxe wear I live. *tears* If you haven’t already grab the Nuxe lip balm, it’s GREAT!
Tatiana says
I rip the tops off of all my pump products and use cotton swabs to get at every last bit!!!
I can’t say I’ve found an eye cream that does miracles. I just hope for some non-irritating moisture at best. I just use all the samples I get. I always seem to have some Clinique Repairwear on hand. I tend to not use Vit C regularly around my eyes as I find it drying over time. The same thing with retinols.
I want to try that new L’Oreal foundation as well, but it’s never in stock in the lighter colors in my area. Tati likes it, but I’ve heard others don’t so… Wish I could remember who didn’t like it.
Karen says
There’s an Ulta less than five minutes away from my dentist (HUGE PLUS), and I’m going back there next week to take Connor for a cleaning so I’m gonna see if they have it. Hoping to find my shade!
I think I’ve used Repairwear in the past and remember liking it.
What are you up to today? I just put Connor down for a nap so it’s time to party! LOL, not really. I’m going to take a shower (worked out for the first time in ages this morning) and maybe paint my toes. I’d like to rent a Keanu Reeves movie, too. Maybe River’s Edge, if I can find it.
Tatiana says
I miss nap days. I used to shower or sleep during Dear Daughter’s naps.
Did laundry in the morning and Dear Daughter stopped by on her way back from Gilroy (she had her bow restrung and the draw weight adjusted to 45 pounds…she’s a regular Katniss) and I went out to dinner in The City with her and then to the ballet after.

Living for that article about makeup for WOC. Thank you for including the link in your Saturday roundup!! xo

All of the Caudalie eye creams are outstanding. I use the Eye Lift in the morning and Premier Cru at night. Nary a wrinkle in sight.

Bobbi Brown’s eye cream! I don’t know if it’s going to do anything miraculous, but I always find it nicely hydrating.
I do love the DE opaque airtight packaging bc it keeps the products from degrading, but I always have anxiety that I’m running out—I’m never sure if I need a backup. Eep.
Renee says
Karen,
Have you tried any products from The Ordinary? They are super cheap and they focus on a few simple ingredients with basic packaging but their products are amazing. I use a caffeine product for under the eyes.

Dr Hauschka Rose Day cream all the way…

I’ve recently gone over to using Darphin products almost exclusively. Before that, I would piece together a skin care routine. At Christmas, my friend gave me a pot of the Darphin aromatic cleansing balm and some freebie samples she had gotten, and my skin looked so drastically improved (I have super dry & dehydrated sensitive skin with rosacea) I made the switch. Anyway, I haven’t bought their eye cream yet (the Hydraskin one) but I really liked the sample I had.
Kiehl’s Eye Treatment with Avocado is my standard eye cream. I absolutely love it and am still using it after replacing all my other skin care with Darphin. It’s relatively inexpensive as eye creams go, I think it’s very effective at what it does (moisture, and that’s pretty much all), and the wee pot lasts forever.

Neocutis Bio Cream Riche is my favorite! It’s $$$, but lovelyskin.com usually has good offers for discounts, and it lasts a very long time- 1.69oz. They have a version specifically for eyes, but I find that it balls up under my moisturizer, so I prefer this one more.

I didn’t know Drunk Elephant had an eye cream! I like the Dr.Brandt Needles no more eye cream!
