Saturday Surfing

May 29th, 2010 by Karen 16 Comments

Rise and shine, morning glory! It’s a beautiful day today, or at least I hope it is where you are. How did you sleep?

Last night Tabs rented Invictus on iTunes, the rugby film with Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman, so we watched that. I liked it, particularly this one scene where Matt takes off his — wait. I don’t want to spoil it for you. 🙂

I don’t feel properly caffeinated yet, but I think I’m ready for a little Saturday Surfing if you are. You may have to help me paddle out (please!)…

What’s new in beauty?

  • The Balm has a new concealer, REJOICE!
Zap zits and get a flawless face with new Liquid timeBalm ($20) spot treatment concealer to cover redness, smooth imperfections and soothe blemished skin; available in Light, Light/Medium and Medium.
  • Oh, just brighten up…with Illamasqua Gleam Cream
Mix Illamasqua Gleam Cream ($36), a lightweight and shimmery highlighter, with your favorite foundation or lotion for an instant skin brightening effect.
  • It’s the dance of the Fresh Sugar Plum fairy!
Fresh’s new Sugar Plum Lip Treatment SPF 15 ($23) is supposed to moisturize, repair and protect lips while adding a deep plum tint.
  • Show those dark circles who’s boss
Designed to help conceal the most intense dark circles, Laura Mercier’s Under Eye Perfector ($22) comes in two shades — Orange/Yellow to cancel purple/gray dark circles in olive-to-deep skin tones and Mauve/Rose to cancel pink/purple circles on fair-to-medium beauties.
  • Think pink!
Isn’t this pink Sedu Revolution Styling Iron ($159) adorable? I’m very happy with the Sedu I use to flat iron my wavy locks. Too bad mine isn’t pink, though!
  • Did James Cameron direct this?
I’m dying to smell the new Bath & Body Works Deep Aqua scent (products range from $3-14). It lists notes of melon, daffodil, violet, daisy and hydrangea. And, hello! — is that Helvetica Neue Ultra Light on the packaging?
  • Would you pay $105 for foundation?
For that kind of money, By Terry’s new Or de Rose Teing Supreme Foundation sure better lift, smooth and anti-age like there’s no tomorrow (available in Beige, Rosy, Amber, Sand and Sienna)!
  • Easy, BIG FELLA!
Urban Decay’s Big Fatty Double Hitter Mascara Duo ($29) adds POW! to your lashes with tubes of regular and waterproof volumizing mascaras.

Other random fun facts…

  • Have you ever worn “The Rachel”?
Friends stopped filming years ago, but women are still asking for Rachel’s most famous cut. [BellaSugar]
  • FLASH! — Lady Gaga spotted looking normal… More at 11!
LG was seen out on the town this week looking almost normal. Sure, her hair was colored gray and she still had that cray-cray tea cup with her, but there weren’t any bubbles, lobsters or oversized hair bows up in the mix. [Glamour Beauty Blog]
  • Attending any weddings this year?
Ready for wedding season? Memorial Day’s the unofficial start, and this makeup artist has some helpful makeup tips to help you look your best in wedding pictures. [Allure Daily Beauty Reporter Blog]
  • Imagine saying, “I got a bird poop facial.”
The Geisha Facial at Manhattan’s Shizuka day spa is a gentle scrub made from rice bran and bird droppings. Yes, bird droppings. Why bird poop? Because it contains skin-friendly compounds like urea, to help skin retain moisture, and the amino acid guanine, for that special bird poop “glow”. [Lemondrop]
  • HOT: The Paul & Joe Sahara collection for summer 2010
Inspired by the mighty sun, sand dunes and colors (pink, coral, gold, beige and aquamarine) of the African desert, the new limted-edition collection includes goodies for face, lips and nails. [Blogdorf Goodman]
  • Embrace the night sky with the Nubar Spring collection
For nails that glitter like sparkly stars late at night, Nubar’s Night Sky spring collection includes a set of three mattes and a topcoat for good luck. [Scrangie]

They’re starting ’em so young these days…

Kind of long but interesting. This might make a good “9 Things” topic, yes?

A beautiful take on my favorite Beatles song

Yes, good Saturday so far! Had Spam and coffee for breakfast LOL. I don’t understand why I go to the gym just to ruin it all with a bad breakfast. 😛

Shopping and getting ready for BF’s move to his apartment on June 1st. So much stuff to do!

And I hope we can make it to a boardwalk stroll tonight by the lake. 🙂

Oh, me too! I am all over Liquid Time Balm!

Y’know, I don’t know that I’d actually throw down the cash for it, but that wouldn’t stop me from popping into Barney’s and trying on that $105 foundation! 😉

I Hulu’d the Glee Gaga episode yesterday and it rocked me down to my stripey socks! 😀 I’ve been humming Bad Romance ever since!

I just got the CD with that song on it — it’s called The Fame Monster. It’s actually pretty darn great! Have you heard the song Speechless? I think your inner choir nerd can appreciate it!

Oh my word, $105 for foundation and there are only four shades? For $105, it had also better be applied by fairies.

Ahh! I am obsessed with the Beatles (hell, my handle for all things internet comes from a John Lennon song) and that was a pretty good cover. I’ve seen Paul live twice, and when he performs “Blackbird,” it’s absolutely amazing — people flip out, lol. The first time I saw him in concert was for my 19th birthday, and I turned into a screaming fangirl, jumping up and down like a crazy person for a man 44 years my senior. He DID blow me a kiss, though, so it was clearly worth the pathetic behavior, lol.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
