Do You Prefer Dewy or Matte Skin?

March 14th, 2014 by Karen 30 Comments

Let’s chat about skin, babe!

Quick, don’t over-think it! Dewy or matte? Matte or dewy? 🙂

For everyday stuff and real life, I prefer dewy, because I think it looks more natural and less “done.”

But when I’m going to take pics, I definitely prefer matte. I just think it looks much better in photos — less shiny and not as distracting. It’s also easier on the pores.

But with shimmer, I still like to wear a little on my upper cheekbones, so even when I do matte skin, I can get a nice contrast between the matte and the shimmer, which I like.

How about you? Do you prefer dewy or matte skin?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh matte, definitely! I have oily skin and large pores, so when my skin glows it just looks extra oily and just not very attractive.

I feel ya on the large pores, girl. Do you do anything to mellow them out before you apply your face makeup? Primers or anything? I’m always looking for a new fix.

      Happy Friday!

I pefer matte with a bit of shimmer. When my face gets dewy, it’s more like shiny all over the place, which I don’t like. I alway have those oil blotting sheets on hand for touch-ups.

Nothing too exciting – just more unpacking of boxes. At least I can stay home and do that in my PJs. I hope Tabs lets you sleep in tomorrow! 🙂

I love dewy looks! I’m more on the dry side so I like to make my skin look all glowy and sexy

I prefer Matte as I get really shiny through the day anyway and am very self conscious of it, nothing seems to work! Plus I have quite large pores around my nose and cheeks so anything to not draw attention 🙂

Can I say semi-matte? I prefer to be more on the matte side of things, since I have combo-oily skin, but I don’t like to look too flat. Right now my favourite foundations for getting that semi-matte finish are Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua and NARS tinted moisturizer, topped with a bit of powder.

I’m on the semi matte bandwagon as well, I have normal to dry skin which looks best with a glow but not too much! Too much shine and I look awful!

I like the idea of matte, but I find it’s too uncomfortable to wear. So I guess I’m on the semi-matte bandwagon, too. But since I wear either BB or CC cream most often, I’m mostly wearing dewy 😉

Can I have a little of both (would that be mattewy? ha) I need matte for my oily skin but it can look a bit flat, so I like to use MAC Fix+ to bring a little life back to my face

Matte! I have combination skin so it drives me nuts when I see my chin or forehead all shiny 🙁

Dewy, just as long as dewy doesn’t become greasy of course! l 🙂

I prefer dewy or atleast satinfinish foundation. However, summer is coming up, i think I will try a more matte foundation for photo if I can pry myself off of MAC face and Body.

I prefer matte for sure! I already have very oily skin so dewy doesn’t work out for me. I don’t like to over do it with a matte look though- I don’t want that fake ultra matte powdery look! I’ve been looking for a new matte foundation to try and have noticed that hardly any (if any) of them have good-for-your-skin ingredients like a lot of the dewy foundations have. Not fair!

Love dewy looks, especially since I have dehydrated skin and it’s hard to achieve, LOL. However, my heart condition makes me sweat really easily, so, especially in the summer, I have to use mattifying products.

TGIF! Tabs is so cute. 🙂 I prefer Matte. My skin is a combination of oily + dry. I don’t think dewy will look good on me.

I’d love to have somewhat dewy skin but residing in dry, dry Northern Alberta, Canada it’s a non-issue as even in the summer it’s dry, dry, dry. Humidex? I’m sorry I don’t know that term? Ha! Every time I go on vacation the 1st thing I notice as I’m getting off the plane is the significant increase in humidity.
I’m surprised I haven’t shrivelled into an prune by now (thank heavens for moisturizer)!

Like the dew on the lawn in the morning. Dewy all the way! However, my go-to is getting a little harder because of changes in my skin with age. Leaning a little more toward dewy with a touch of matte these days. I like the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer over Cerave moisturizer for right now.

I prefer matte. Dewy looks a bit too sparkly for me. Once tried a powder with slight shimmer and didn’t like it at all.

I have large pores and old acne scars so about the dewiest I can go is NARS TM. I prefer a finish between them, sort of like a satin!

I prefer the Look of dewy- but I need a foundation that won’t transfer/wipe off easily, and will not make my oily t-zone greasy.

Because of this I wear more matte foundations, which are longer wearing. I would love to have a long-wearing, non-transfer, LUMINOUS foundation, but every one I’ve tried seriously accentuates fine lines and wrinkles. (any suggestions?) 🙂

I prefer what I call ‘light dewy’. So, not 100% matte, but not so ‘dewy’ that I feel I’m verging on just looking shiny. Not even oily, just shinier than skin usually looks.

I guess I’m going for that elusive ‘luminous’ texture. 😛

a mix of both. i think if it’s too matte i tend to look dull since I have dry skin but I don’t like looking like a grease ball
