What’s the Most Enjoyable Part of Doing Makeup for You?

Good times!

Is it doing your eyes makeup? Putting on your lips? Smoothing your skin? I used to looove ? doing my eyes when I had more time, and I could be extra picky about getting everything symmetrical, which I weirdly like doing, but now that I live my life by the timer on my iPhone and 15-minute blocks, I get my makeup kicks from blush.

I love how you can transform EVERYTHING with one sweep of blush. I’m all about that blush now, man!

How about you? What part of doing makeup is the most enjoyable for you?

Oh, and if you say brows, you’re gonna make me laugh, because only masochists have fun doing brows, LOL! 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I like everything…except eye makeup! I HATE doing eye makeup, to be honest. I don’t own any eyeliner, because I just can’t use it! Cream eyeshadow is my lifesaver. I have a pretty thick eyebrows so I don’t know the struggle, though. I just use clear gel to set them in place.

How can I choose just ONE favorite part? If I HAD to choose, I think blush might be my favorite, since it lights up the face; however, putting on false lashes (I am obsessed with falsies) is also great because it transforms a makeup look. So much like…! (Love your posts!)

Applying corrector under my eyes. It totally transforms my face.

Same here! When I had more energy and time, eyes were so fun because it’s the place I can really experiment with colors. But since I’ve been so busy and tired lately, blush has become my favorite part of makeup the last six months or so! I feel like, depending on the color, finish, and placement, it can really do so much for your face and complexion with so little effort! For example, I feel like bright pinks (like Dior Healthy Glow Awakening) make brown eyes pop, and ruddy bronzy shades (like MAC Sunbasque) make a realistic sunkissed look on very fair skin.

When a liner/ eyepencil and mascara define my eyes I’m so happy! That’s my favourite part of all although I often compromise and only use mascara especially in the morning when I’m rushing to go to work x

The doing, period. Putting on makeup most days of the week for over 30 years has been my most consistent self-care routine and I love how it evolves and shifts as I do. At the moment, I’m loving the skin aspect. As a teenager, when I started putting on makeup, I had very acne-prone skin. Having no acne now, I love applying the least amount of products that still impart a healthy and even tone, with minimal, natural highlight and shading. I also like how I gradually have started using less and less makeup but still get a result that I like.

The most satisfying steps are foundation and mascara, because they make such a huge, immediate difference: from blotchy, red skin to flawless, and from small, tired eyes to bambi eyes! But my favorite part is actually lipstick. It’s always been lipstick…

Hm, for me, it’s usually the eyes. There’s so much to decide there! I think you get much more freedom in how you do your eyes, compared to the rest of your face – mono colour, kitten eye liner, cut-crease… For all the other products, it just seems to be that you mostly just switch colors, but the placement is pretty much always the same. Having said that, the runner-up for me is bronzer. I used to never wear any, but recently changed my mind about it, and now I usually wear a bit of bronzer every day. I also got the Chanel bronzer brush a while back, and it kinda went into storage for a long time. I’m using it regularly now and it’s *amazing*. Grabs the perfect amount sideways for cheeks, and on the tip for the edges of the forehead. So yeah. Eyes are my fav, followed by bronzer at the moment. 🙂

Blush, because it’s easy and means I’m almost done. 😉 But it’s hard to beat lipstick. In terms of sheer joy, it would have to be the lipstick. Choosing the right color is so enjoyable. It never feels like a chore. I think in terms of colors and have always just loved lipstick colors. I also like to think about how I’m about to walk out the door, who I might see, and how I’m presenting myself. And it’s simple to apply and has immediate payoff!

This is such a fun question! I’ve never really thought about it. I like doing my eyes because the transformation always blows me away. I often do my eyes before foundation! I enjoy filling in my brows which automatically turns me into a new person. Then putting on my mascara I feel turns me into a goddess Rockstar. And I love the final step of doing my lipstick. Just starring at my collection to pick a color is pleasurable as I feel different colors communicate different messages and I like making sure I pick the right one for that day! ❤

Foundation, powder, and contour – these make such a huge difference to the face!

I also love doing eyeshadows when it goes well, and applying lipstick.

I love doing eye shadow. I have way too many shadows, so there are seemingly an infinite number of possibilities. And when you get a new palette, it’s like opening a new box of crayons, you cannot wait to use all the colors!
And getting a new lip color is pretty fun too, but you usually use just one of those and then the fun is over. I mean you can put on gloss and then the fun is over again.

I dislike putting on false lashes. I love how the end result looks, but it’s hard and I tend to miss. The glue gets in my lashes and then I end up losing lashes pulling out the glue bits later that night. It’s a disaster!

I love everything except eyeliner and false lashes (yes, even eyebrows!) I haven’t worn eyeliner in years and I’m a perfectionist so eyeliner takes me forever, which is probably why I haven’t worn any for so long. Falsies are a hit and miss for me. Sometimes it looks greats and takes a second to apply, and sometimes it takes ten tries, glue all over my eyelids and tears of frustration before I get them on right.

Definitely doing my eyes. I can use the most colors and get the most creative. Plus, I think my eyes are my best feature. Lips would be second, again because of the colors and how they complete my look. It’s truly a transforming moment when the lips are done.

I hate doing my brows. It’s difficult for me and tedious. Plucking sucks.

Brows. 😉 Really, though, as long as I keep them waxed regularly, I just have to do a little in-between cleanup tweezing. I style my brows very naturally, so a little fill-in, a swipe of clear brow gel, and I’m done. I love, love, love how just a little brow maintenance makes you look so much more put-together. I even talked my mom into getting hers waxed this week.

Ms. Karen – I too really think I enjoy the whole process… especially when I’m going somewhere that I am excited to go!! I do especially get amped up about my eyes. I love the blending of colors and textures… and how it all is framed by the eyebrows, and how doing my brows (I do them last, before mascara) just opens up the eye as well as the whole face. It transforms a lot like the blush does.

I just love everything makeup period. I could spend a living, breathing, fortune on it. I am a lipstick junkie – I NEVER get enough. I’m on a Mac kick right now – liquid lips are so gross to me as of late – they’re dry, and crusty – and yuck. I have SO many. I love finishing off with that lovely lip — and then my perfume. It just feels so etherial — and again, transformative. It makes me happy. Too happy, especially when I have new things!!! I’m getting ready to splurge on a new foundation – (not a really high priced one, like I”d like, but…) and I’m going to grab all the goodies I can for my birthday month @ Sephora!!! I’m getting my points, the codes, and my free three!!! I have shoes coming in Thursday (OH they’re SO friggin cute) and I just got my coffee machine. So Gina’s a happy woman!!!

    Bye for now,
    Grace and Peace always,
    Gina and Gracie!

Lipstick. Always has been, always will be. I can leave the house without any other color makeup if I have on lipstick.
I really enjoy my skincare routine now too. I am weird, but I love putting on sunscreen lately. Dear Husband brought some back from Japan for me and I love how quickly it disappears into my skin no matter how much I apply.

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
