So…what is the Monday Poll?
Well, it isn’t exactly a poll. It’s more of a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past 10 (!) years. (It’s like a kickstart for your brain.) I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
High-waisted black Zella leggings, white Converse high-tops and a jeans jacket, obviously. What else would you wear with a coconut bra? 🙂
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
Yes, Santa Claus, when I was 5. He was the most amazing person ever. His eyes twinkled, and his beard was so soft.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
Well, the cat doesn’t do it, and El Hub has no interest, so it’s all me. This year we’re going with a red, green and gold theme with lots of plaid.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
I’m absentminded about many things, but I’m pretty good about keeping track of my wallet, my keys and my purse. That said, I’ve only lost my purse once, and that was when I was six months pregnant. El Hub and I went to Panera one morning for breakfast, and I was in some kind of pregnancy fog because we left the restaurant, and I literally left my purse hanging on the back of my chair and didn’t realize until 10 min later as I was petting a fluffy dog outside.
I remember it with so much clarity now because it was the only time. So, I’ve never technically lost my purse… I just misplaced it at Panera. Everything was still there.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
I like both. Either one, as long as it’s moisturizing and good.
I actually just realized that I don’t have any glosses in my bag at the moment.
Happy Monday, my friend
I want to play in the rain. I want to slip on my boots, button up my coat, splash in some puddles, and feel the drops on my hands and on my face. I just want to feel alive, ya know?
It’s like, everything is so wondrous to a toddler. Everything’s amazing. I feel like somewhere along the way, though, we lose that. It’s a nice feeling, even if it’s just for a few minutes in the rain.
Hope your spirit feels light this week and nothing weighs your shoulders down.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Here are the questions to copy and paste:
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Maritza says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? Pleather leggings (a la Sandy from Grease). I mean …. DUH!
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? When I was 12 I met Christan Slater at a restaurant in LA when I was visiting my grandparents and he winked at me (SWOON!).
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? My kids help, but it’s mostly me.
4. Have you ever lost your purse? Yes, but it was found a week later by a good Samaritan who told me that I keep too many receipts in my purse. It’s true.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? Non sticky. I’m always nuzzling my cat Holly, much to her chagrin, and cat hair just doesn’t have the same effect as shimmer gloss. Am I wrong? What do you think?
Karen says
Hi Maritza,
I would’ve probably fainted on the spot if Christian Slater from back in the day winked at me, haha!
Also, I think cat hair in lipgloss is gonna be the next big thing. I’ve been saying that for 10 years now (ever since Tabs came into my life). I’m glad to have found someone who gets it.
How long have you been Holly’s “assistant”?
Maritza says
I’ve been the Anne Hathaway to her Meryl Streep since 2013. To the causal observer it looks like she hates me, but I know better. She loves me.
Karen says
Haha, all cats are really good at pretending they despise you! It’s their super power. 🙂
Katie says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? Hmmm, probably bikini bottoms and a bright sarong!
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? Yes, when I was like 4 and my parents took me to Disney I got to meet Cinderella. She is still my favorite princess 🙂
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? I do! I have to really get after my husband to help out but I am the Clark Griswold of the family, But I love Christmas! Christmas day is my birthday!!!
4. Have you ever lost your purse? Yes, once in college but luckily an honest person found it and returned it to me after they found me on Facebook!
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? I like both as long as its a nice color and they feel good on my lips.
Karen says
Hi Katie,
Happy Monday! I hope your low-key Thanksgiving was fun and relaxing. Did you do any Black Friday shopping? I don’t know if you ever shop at Carters but they had (and still might have) a really good sale — 50%, I believe. I get Connor’s baby/toddler clothes from there whenever she needs a new size (which is seriously every 3 months at this point), usually when there’s a sale.
Katie says
Thanksgiving was stress free and quiet 🙂 We did do some Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving evening, we picked up some Google home mini’s and went to Kohls for their sale on baby/infant clothes. Basically all of Ivy’s clothes are Carters, cute and they don’t break the bank 🙂
Karen says
YES! I’m all about Carters. I also like that the clothes still look like things children would wear. I like it when kids look like kids and not like mini versions of adults. There’s plenty of time to do that later on in life.
Plus they grow out of things so quickly. I realized a pair of jeans I bought Connor in September from Target and now too short on her. Thank goodness they were only $11!
You just wait until that first time you clear out Ivy’s drawers to make way for bigger clothes. El Hub had to peel me off the floor, I was in tears. Even now when I see those tiny newborn onesies, I can’t believe she used to fit in them. They look like doll clothes to me.
Joyce B. says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? A grass skirt and a lei. And then I’d go shopping at Target.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? Keith Urban, at a meet and greet. He shook my hand and asked how I was and I started babbling and couldn’t stop and he literally turned away from me to go to the next person. So embarrassing.
3. Who does the holiday decorating? I do all the shopping, wrapping and baking so my hubby does the decorating. But I help put the ornaments on the tree.
4. Have you ever lost your purse? No, not that I recall. I had my purse stolen once when I was in college.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? Non-sticky. I hate when my hair gets stuck to my lips.
Karen says
Yes, girl! TARGET!!!
I usually put the ornaments on the tree and then Tabs immediately tries to take them down. The bottom half of our poor tree is usually naked, LOL! How are your cats with the tree? Do they treat it as their playground, or do they ignore it?
Ruchita says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
I would go all out with a grass skirt!
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
Unfortunately, no. But maybe someday! That would be fun.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
Me. I put up the tree and wreath on Saturday. We don’t have fireplace, but there’s a ledge in kitchen where I hang the stockings. Then I put a few holiday themed candles on the dining table.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
Luckily, no. But back in high school I lost my new Liz Claiborne wallet. Luckily it was found with just some cash missing. I remember being so excited to get that wallet for Christmas because it had that triangle pattern on it.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non sticky, but moisturizing.
Happy Monday! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Does Tabs care about the Christmas tree? Luckily all my cats leave the tree alone, but Nina loves to hide under the tree skirt, which is so cute I don’t care if it looks messy.
Karen says
Hi Ruchita,
Happy Monday! Yes, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I was exhausted afterwards after cleaning and cooking and then cleaning again, but it was all worth it. I had a good time with my family, and Tabs got turkey. 🙂
So, Christmas trees… Tabs believes they solely exist for his amusement. He’s tipped over a tree or two (oops) and has also been known to drink out of the basin and nibble on the leaves. Ornaments and lights are around so he can swat at them.
How’s the new kitty doing? Is he getting a stocking, too?
Ruchita says
Haha, sounds like Tabs loves Christmas time! The new guy is doing well. Funny, I was just looking at stockings this weekend. I know he doesn’t care, but I want all the kitties to have their own!
I got a cute Christmas bowtie/collar last year as a gift and I’m plotting on how to get the kitties to wear it so I can get pictures for holiday cards. It will probably be a losing battle, but I’d like to try!
Karen says
I think that’s a good idea. I bet you he’s just playing cool, pretending that he doesn’t want a stocking. All kitties want one of their own!
I wish I could give you some tips on getting them to meow-dle for you but honestly I can barely get Tabs to listen to anything I say. It’s his world and I merely live in it! You could always try food bribery. Something they can’t resist, like their fave treat or maybe some fatty tuna? I find that when food is a strong motivator. You could always take pics of the kitties individually and then do a collage cut out, too. That could be cute and kind of sassy! What does the bow tie look like?
Astrid says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
First thing that comes to mind is the grass skirt.. and… nothing else comes to mind ?. I’d like your idea though!
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
I was standing within an arm distance with Andrea Bocelli a few years back. I don’t think I managed to stay cool… well I did froze up.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
Nobody ?. I’m really not a typical person here.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
Ugh, I had my wallet stolen a few months ago. That was horrible going through all the German bureaucracy to get the replacements of the residence card. Plus we were planning to travel to the US in the next weeks. All is good in the end though… I guess we all get through eventually :).
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non-sticky! I realized I don’t like them much though. I hate my hair sticking to the lipgloss then on my glasses.
Karen says
Hi Astrid,
Glad you were able to get all your paperwork settled before your trip! It’s the same way here in the US… lots of hoops to jump through. Did you ever get the wallet back?
Astrid says
Hi Karen,
No, nothing so far. I haven’t given up hope though, since my friend did get something returned… after 6 months ?. Most of my things are replaced already, so it’s then just the joy of seeing my wallet back :). I think most people are actually nice and will return your wallet (like the story of your purse!), even your phone when they found them.
I remember getting a phone call from a stranger with my friend’s number, turned out this stranger found the phone and I’m the last person my friend called. I still wonder how this person managed to unlock the phone though ?.
Karen says
I want to think that most people will do the right thing, because I know that’s what I would do if I was in the same spot. I really hope you do get your wallet back… Ya never know!
Are you ready for the holidays? I can’t believe it’s going to be December already.
Astrid says
Yes, definitely there are way more good people in this world!
I’m so ready to have a bit more laid back December for sure (work wise)! All the Christmas markets and mulled wine… and I love the smell of cinnamon-y sugared roasted almonds ??.
How about you?
Karen says
I’m all about the Christmas carbs, LOL! 🙂 This time usually flies by in the blink of an eye for me; I’m consciously trying to slow down and enjoy it because of the baby (who’s not so much of a baby these days but more a rambunctious toddler). We’re going to our first Christmas mom/daughter event on Friday! I joined a mom’s group and a bunch of the ladies with kids under 6 are going to watch a dress rehearsal for the Nutcracker. The kids are allowed to go crazy in the aisles if they need to, haha. I figure Connor won’t remember it, but she loves music and dancing so who knows? Maybe it’ll spark something in her baby brain.
Are you doing any traveling for Christmas? Or are you staying close to home?
Astrid says
Awwww that sounds so cute! Nutcracker dress rehearsal, I bet she will enjoy it! At the Berlin Film Festival they also do a kids movie section (4 y/o though) and I just love to see how the kids reacted to the movie and the questions they asked afterwards. So this show especially with the kids can run around, sounds great. Hope you both will have a great time there!
This year we’ll be staying put in Berlin… most likely celebrating the holidays with our close friends who are also here (expats families!). But I’m planning to go home early next year, so it’s fine :).
(I’ve to reply on the previous thread, I couldn’t reply on your latest anymore, too much convo? Haha)
Karen says
I plan to keep her there as long as she’ll tolerate it. It’s smack dab in the middle of her nap time but, eh, once in while is fine.
Ya know, I’ve never been to Berlin. Do you like living there?
Astrid says
Sounds like a good plan!
Hmm.. well I live here for 9 years now, so I must’ve liked it enough. The city definitely has its gritty charm. I like it a lot for the public spaces (lots of park to run, chill out,..), summer definitely is a good time. Winter is brutal here because it’s so dark and cold, Christmas market is the only reason you’d want to go at this time of the year. It’s worth visiting esp if you know someone who can give you hints of where to go ;).
Karen says
If I go, it’ll probably be a time when I don’t have to deal with snow, LOL! I’m from Northern California. The upper 40s here is considered a reason to wear a floor-length down jacket and thermal underwear. LOL! It’s so true though. When is the best time to visit Berlin? Even though it’s not the easiest to travel with a small child I still want to go everywhere, ya know?
Googling Christmas market…
Eileen says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? At my age (70’s) just the thought of wearing a coconut bra would send me into a tizzy! If I had to, though, I’d follow Joyce B’s lead and put on that grass skirt, a lei, and shake it up
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? Yes. It was a random encounter in the mall and only lasted about 1-2 minutes, but I’ve never forgotten that person or what he said to me.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? Since we’re empty-nesters and my husband has no interest in decorating, it’s just me. I love doing it, though. Makes me happy 🙂
4. Have you ever lost your purse? No, but I had it stolen by a student once. It was at work many, many years ago. It taught me to be less trusting of the little darlings.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? It doesn’t make any difference to me.
Karen says
Hi Eileen,
I hope you had a nice weekend. Are son and his darling lady in yet for your belated T-day celebration? Hope everything with the cooking goes smoothly!
Eileen says
They’ll be flying in Wednesday evening and I’m really getting excited. My sons and their special ladies are such wonderful people. It’s always a joy and a pleasure getting them together. Yes, the dinner is under control. I love fixing something special for my family. Thanks for asking 🙂
Karen says
You’re welcome. 🙂 Having family over and cooking for them is such a hectic and exciting time! I’m sure they’re just as stoked to spend time with you.
You know what I realized this Thanksgiving? My younger brother and I have really good kitchen chemistry. We didn’t really cook together growing up because it food was more of a thing that you had to get in your stomach and just get it over with. Now though as adults we mesh really well in the kitchen. He was the one who helped me with the meal; he cooked a few sides, helped carve the turkey, prepped some sauces… We seem to know when to get out of each other’s way, when to throw in an idea, when to chill and just hang out. It was really cool. I’ve never had that experience with anybody and it was great.
Michele DiCola says
Hi Karen ,
Happy Thanksgiving ?
I would wear a grass skirt of course !
I met Sylvester Stallone in Philly while he was promoting Rocky ! YOUSA !
My husband and I both do the decorating . I can’t reach the boxes ( of which there are many ?) in the attic .
I left my purse in an ice cream parlor when my husband and I were dating. We called and went back right away. There wasn’t anything in there but make up ! Lol ?
I use all Mac lipglosses . Non sticky
Karen says
Hi Michele,
Happy Monday and I hope you had a wonderful holiday!
Stephanie Smith says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? Boyfriend jeans, converse, and a leather jacket. And I would rock it.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? My daughter’s kindergarten teacher, I was so nervous sending my baby off to school, and then I met her teacher. She had the biggest, most clear blue eyes ever and she looked right at you when she talked. I was instantly comfortable. My daughter is 15 now, but I’ll always remember her first day of school.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? Moi! I need to do my floors, a pug and three cats shed a lot of hair, and then I can put the trees up.
4. Have you ever lost your purse? I had one stolen from me in high school, ooh I was mad. It was a cute purse, and it was stolen out of the band room, from someone in band! What kind of person does that? Actually, I found out who it was, she made a lot of mistakes, but has apologized and turned her life around.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? Non sticky. And I’m not a lipgloss girl, I really enjoy the matte lippies, and a big reason is that they aren’t sticky.
Karen says
Hi Stephanie,
Did you say trees?! You guys have more than one?
LindaLibraLoca says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
A grass skirt. If you go there, embrace it fully!
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
I had to look up dazzle first, but yes, Mr. Loca. I was already 30 and married when he came into my life and meeting him left me completely dazzled. Still is that way, to be honest.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
My mother. I had to after I moved out, but never put much heart into it. Now that we share one big house she is in charge of decorating again.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
Lost? No. Misplaced it? Yes, but only around the house.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non-sticky. But I don’t like lip gloss in general.
And yes to the wonder that is the world to a toddler. It really helps get some fun back into your life when you spend time with them.
Karen says
Definitely! I spent the morning teaching Connor how to kick through piles of leaves! She’s a natural.
Hope you have a great week.
Kim says
Happy Monday! I hope you had a fab Thanksgiving. 🙂
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? Definitely a grass skirt and a lei. I’m a traditionalist. 🙂
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? Yes, a couple of people but it was more to do with personality and enthusiasm. Dazzled by looks is usually reserved for movie stars. HAHA!
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? It’s a bit of a (forced) family affair for the inside. The Hubs does the outside decorating.
4. Have you ever lost your purse? No, but I left my day planner in the bathroom stall at O’Hare when I first started working. It had my plane tix, company credit card and all my cash inside. Someone turned it in, untouched. I could have cried from gratefulness.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? Non-sticky.
Karen says
Hi Kim,
We had a great Thanksgiving! It was so nice to see my whole fam. The next day I was beat though… Could’ve used a massage and a facial at a spa.
How was yours?
P.S. That person who turned in your planner was an angel! Thank goodness for them.
Tatiana says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? A hibiscus printed sarong.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? My Dear Husband. He walks into the room and it lights up with warmth and glow for me. If you mean famous people not really.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? Dear Husband gets the decorations from storage and then gets up on the ladder and puts the house lights up. I do the remainder.
4. Have you ever lost your purse? No.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? I don’t like lipgloss, so if I had to choose it would be non-sticky.
Playing in the rain sounds like fun. Went for a run with Dear Husband yesterday. When we were warming up I kicked my way through all the piled up, fallen leaves. Asked DH to restrain me from jumping into a huge pile the city had piled up. (Who knows what might be lurking in that pile of leaves.) Once he started running it started to rain. I got pretty wet while walking, but luckily I had a rain parka with me.
Karen says
Hi Tatiana,
How funny you should mention the piles of leaves. We had a bunch of fallen leaves here today, too, and I taught Connor how to kick her way through them. She’s a natural. 🙂 How far did you guys run? I did a three and a half mile run on the treadmill yesterday. It felt good to sweat all that T-day food out.
Tatiana says
Being a child of the midwest, I love kicking my way through autumn leaves. The smell of the leaves, the sound of it, it’s my favorite time of the year. I’m so old I can remember people burning piles of leaves at the end of the season. Glad to hear you taught Connor this time honored, autumn tradition.
No idea how far Dear Husband runs, he’s six feet tall so I can’t keep up. I walked about 3 3/4 miles. I have either a shin splint or a stress fracture plus arthritis in my knee so I don’t run distances anymore. I run to avoid being hit by cars that don’t stop at red lights and to catch flights in airports, but that’s it.
Karen says
Definitely! I think it’s important for her to have fun outside. I loved that she smiled and laughed as she kicked up leaves!
Walking is SUCH good exercise, not just for your joints, but for lowering your sugar levels. Have you tried walking after your meals? It makes such a difference.
Jaclyn Levy says
1. This is probably my favorite Monday poll question ever. Love your outfit idea Karen, and I think it would totally work! I think I’d attempt to wear it under a sheer blouse (for that “did she or didn’t she?” effect), and a big, billowing midi to floor length skirt. And flowers in my hair.
2. I’m not sure! I had an intense crush last year. Does that count?
3. Me. I’m the Director of Decorating. My husband takes orders though. And my 2 young boys “help.”
4. I can’t recall! I don’t think so.
5. Non sticky! Unsexy balms, like Blistex, are my go to.
Rachel Runyan says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra? A hula skirt, of course.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you? Snow White at Disneyland when I was 4. She kissed me and my brother on tops of our heads, like she does to the dwarfs in the movie. I felt so honored. LOL
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family? Mostly me and my hubby. The kids will usually help hubby with putting up lights outside. If they must.
4. Have you ever lost your purse? No, but I left my wallet at a restaurant once. Fortunately, I left it on the front register, so staff saw it right away and kept it safe for me.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss? Non-sticky. Thick gloss is fine, but when it’s hard to pull your lips apart, that’s too sticky.
Karen says
Hi Rachel,
Aww, how sweet! I remember going to Disneyland and getting the characters to sign my autograph book. Did you ever do that?
Happy Monday!
Rachel Runyan says
Yes, but unfortunately my mother threw out my autograph album. 🙁
Karen says
I think mine did, too. Le sigh!
breyerchic04 says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
A pantsuit.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
yes, but i can’t do them justice with words.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
my mom and i.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
i drove three hours away on Saturday and realized I’d left it at home, I think that counts. I also had one stolen in high school and found it destroyed in the stairwell.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Sticky. they stay on.
Karen says
Hi Sarah!
Happy Monday. How was your Thanksgiving? I hope you had a good one.
Trude says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
A grass skirt? 🙂
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
My husband. He’s a walking encyclopedia, never mind being super handsome, and it’s dazzling.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
Definitely me, he’s much more of a grinch. 🙂
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
No, knock on wood! I have misplaced a credit card though, and after that heart attack I always put it back in the same place.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non-sticky, for sure! It’s why I usually go with tinted lip balms or lipsticks these days.
Karen says
Hi Trude,
I’ve had that same exact thing happen to me with my card and from that point on I always put it in the same place.
How did the Sunday Friendsgiving feast go? I hope your carrots turned out well!
Trude says
You’re so sweet to remember! It was great, husband made a 10 lb beef roast that turned out perfect and I made the carrots, dinner rolls, chocolate pudding pie and artichoke dip. Yum! Combined with what our friends brought, we’ve got a very full fridge today! 🙂 Hope you have a great week, can’t believe it’s almost December!!
Karen says
OK, my stomach rumbled when I read your comment. LOL! Mmm… How do you like your artichoke dip recipe? I’ve been looking for a good one.
Trude says
Ha me too, can’t wait to go home and eat! The dip recipe has served me well over the years (and my mom before me), I’ll email it to you! 🙂
Karen says
I got it! Thanks, Trude. I’m with you… go all the way with the full-fat stuff during the holidays. Especially when you’re making it for company!
Thanks again and have a great Tuesday.
Chelsea says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
What wouldn’t you wear with a coconut bra? I think maybe a high waisted mini skirt or shorts.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
My friend Tanya! I first saw her as a burlesque performer and she is just amazing.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
We don’t have holiday decorations because Mina and Hettie aren’t trustworthy.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
I use cross-body purses exclusively because I have a really bad habit of leaving purses behind in places.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non-sticky, but I’m not big on gloss anyway.
Karen says
Haha! You should see the bottom half of our Christmas tree… It’s naked! Like someone forgot to put ornaments or ran out. It’s solely because Tabs can’t be trusted. He thinks the tree is there solely for his amusement.
Kate & Zena says
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
A coconut bra? That would be so uncomfortable! But, I’d have to say a 50s circle skirt and flats with some fun earrings.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
Not a person. Horse, yes. Dog, yes. Person? Nah.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
My mom and me, mostly.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
Nope.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
I have a love of Stila lipglosses which are known for being a bit sticky but I also like thinner lipglosses so it doesn’t matter.
Bree (our new dog since Zena passed) is getting a good pheromone collar to hopefully help her adjust to life here. We’re hoping it will help her bring her out of her shell a bit. She’s so shy and scared. Poor little doggy. I hope we can help her.
Karen says
Hi Kate,
I’m so sorry; I didn’t know that Zena passed. I know she was a big part of your life. Hugs to you, and welcome to the family, Bree!
Kate & Zena says
Hi Karen,
We learned last Monday that Zena’s cancer came back, except this time in her adrenal gland, and it was terminal. It was causing her a lot of pain which was why she was not eating, so we decided to let her go. It was really hard, but we didn’t want her to be in pain, you know? Even her vet was crying because she literally said to us, “I can’t fix her.” It really broke our hearts, but I think she knew that there was another dog that needed our help more.
Bree came from a breeder that just didn’t treat her dogs well. She’s not socialized to other people or cats or children, doesn’t know what a leash is, doesn’t know what a life outside of a kennel is…and her old name traumatized her so we changed it to Bree. We’re working with a trainer because we don’t know how to fully help her. It is challenging but we’re helping her in anyway we can. Go to us to get the challenging dogs, right?
Karen says
I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s very hard to lose a cherished friend who you’ve been with for years. I hope she passed peacefully and surrounded with love. ❤️
Kate & Zena says
She had everyone who loved her there. I couldn’t watch Dr. Kelly put the drugs in (I nearly threw up when the nurse explained the procedure), so I waited outside, but I said my good-byes. But, my parents, her favorite vet techs and her favorite vet was there. Dr. Kelly (her vet) cried because she LOVED her. She was blessed (twice!) during her life at church on October 4 – the day we celebrate St. Francis of Assisi (the patron saint of all animals.) I joked to my dad that God couldn’t help but give Zena two halos – one for each ear. LOL.
I’m sure I’ll smuggle Bree in on October 4th to be blessed. If there’s any dog that needs blessing…it’s that one.

She seemed like a sweet dog and a loyal companion. I like to think that my Shauna (best dog I ever knew) is playing with her in heaven!
Kate & Zena says
Oh, I’m sure she is playing with every dog (and cat; she loves cats. she found them to be great curiosities) when she is not snuggling with my grams. My grams loved her. She was a sweetheart. Although, I’m sure the resident rodent and bunny population of Heaven is not happy. HA HA.
“NO! NOT ANOTHER TERRIER! When do we get our own section of Heaven so we can have peace and quiet?! GOD?!”
“When I stop being amused by the dogs desperately trying to kill you, but find out they can’t because you are all immortal.”
I can see it.

1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
A grass skirt, DUH! Maybe a trench coat.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
That’s a good question. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anyone. If I met Sir Elton John, I think I’d turn into a total heart eyes emoji. I get dazzled every time I see an animal.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
We all do, regardless of how slow the pace of it is.
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
I’ve never lost my purse. Or if I have, it’s been ages and I seem to have blocked such a horrific experience from my memory. I am constantly thinking I left my phone or sunglasses somewhere, when they’re actually buried at the bottom of any one of my cavernous bags.
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non-sticky, of course, but I’m not sure about this. Sure, some glosses can be less sticky than others, but I don’t know if any lip gloss is really non-sticky. I mean, hair knows nothing about sticky/non-sticky. It likes to bathe itself in ANY gloss. Nothing like that nice strip of hair/gloss across your chin and cheeks. Mmmm…
Karen says
Hi Lydia,
I know that strip of gloss on the cheek all too well! Welcome to my world, LOL!
Happy Tuesday to ya. 🙂 What are you up to today?
Erin says
I’m so far behind! it’s crunch time at my work and it’s pretty much been nonstop CHAOS!
1. What would you wear with a coconut bra?
I think I’d have to go with the traditional grass skirt! Wait, is that really traditional? Looks like I need to research it. Don’t want to be offensive.
2. Have you ever met somebody who literally dazzled you?
Yes a woman… I saw her in Powells books in ptown. I tried to get to her to introduce myself but I couldn’t find her once I worked up the courage to look. It’s like she looked into my soul and somehow transfixed it. I was stunned. Maybe I dreamed her up, I have no clue.
3. Who does the holiday decorating in your family?
Me mostly… I was just called CTH last night… That’s Ms.Christmas Tree Hitler to you 😛
4. Have you ever lost your purse?
Yes!
5. Which do you prefer: sticky or non-sticky lipgloss?
Non sticky! My hair is too wild to stay out of my face. Plus, pet hair…
