Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 251

December 24th, 2012 by Karen 12 Comments

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

It’s go time!

Merry Christmas Eve. I’m just here taking care of some last-minute odds and ends before heading over to my parents’ house for our annual family Christmas Eve celebration. On my side of the fam, we celebrate tonight. On El Hub’s side, we celebrate tomorrow morning, so it’s almost like a two-day affair.

Sweet. 🙂

I still have about 101 things left to do before leaving (haven’t hardly wrapped any gifts yet, ARRRRGHHHHH!), but the Monday Poll is kind of like its own Makeup and Beauty Blog tradition. I haven’t missed one in years, and I’m not about to start now.

I know you’re probably swamped today, so we’ll keep this one short and sweet (like a gingerbread cookie).

Mmmm… gingerbread cookie…

  1. MOOD: Frazzled.
  2. ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES? About a 7.5.

I did a stint as a professional gift wrapper when I was a teenager, so I used to be pretty good at it, but my skills have since deteriorated…

Wrapping presents is actually one of my favorite holiday activities.

  3. REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE? Sure did. Juniper Breeze.
  4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? My world-famous peach and blueberry cobbler…

Yes, the “world famous” part is, in fact, part of its official name. 🙂

  5. WEEKLY GOALS? To just relax, spend time with my family (including Shauna the Wonder Dog) and enjoy the holidays. That’s it.

Oh, and this next one doesn’t actually happen until next week, but I’m looking forward to it so much that I can’t not think about it now! On January 5, I’m meeting my friends Jen and Cindy for a girl’s spa weekend.

    Gah! Can’t wait! Can’t wait! Can’t wait!

Well, that about does it for me (stay tuned for today’s giveaway a little later).

You know how this works. Just copy and paste the list below into a comment with your answers.

  4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR?
  5. WEEKLY GOALS:

Wishing you a wonderful holiday and lots of love, my friend. 🙂 I’ll talk to you soon.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    2. ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES?
8 or so. I love using wrapping paper with more foil in it to get those nice crisp edges. I also like having all of my wrapping paper/bags/ribbons/gift tags to coordinate with each other. Also yay ribbon! I’m strangely meticulous when it comes to gift wrapping. I might do brown paper next year with rustic ribbons/raffia or maybe snowflakes again like last year. Hmmm~
    3. REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?
Yes, but I don’t think I had a favorite one.
    4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR?
Not really, but it looks like it might be my white chocolate, macadamia nut, and cherry-flavored dried cranberry cookies. Everyone seems to like them. ^^
    5. WEEKLY GOALS:
    -Figure out that class.
-Enjoy the holidays with my boyfriend’s folks.
-Get ready for my mom’s arrival on Thursday.
-Get ready for our little Christmas party thing this weekend.
-Figure out a time to get together with some old friends for our own late Christmas party.

MOOD: Excited, since I get to open my gifts tonight! (On Christmas Day, we get to open our stockings.)

ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES?: About a 2 or a 3. My mom’s the gift-wrapping champ in my house.

REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?: Warm Vanilla Sugar.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR?: We make a whole bunch of traditional Christmas cookies, and my Oma (grandma) either makes rouladen or sarma for Christmas Eve dinner. We only get those dishes once a year, and they’re so good…

WEEKLY GOALS: Have fun on Christmas, relax, and clean.

Pretty all right. Am super stoked about my latest post though! 🙂
    2. ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES?
Um, I’d say a pretty good 7-8, depending on conditions such as size/type of gift/paper/accessories I get to play with 😛
    3. REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?
Nope, since I’m from out of the U.S… but back in the day my fragrance of choice was CK One, CK Eternity, Clinique Happy For Men (The men’s version was much better on me and I liked it better) and Estee Lauder Pleasures.
    4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR?
Well, if I’m requested I’d make it- tom yam prawns. Or tom yam seafood, either way the gravy’s the same. The gravy’s super great with bread for one! 😉
    5. WEEKLY GOALS:
Recover! Recently had gastric problems that left me bedridden for a whole day, but now I’m still weak and my appetite is still pretty much crap. Gotta recover ASAP!

Wow this is a shorter poll than usual!

    MOOD: Lazy 🙂

ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES? Like a 2. I don’t really know what I’m doing but it doesn’t look *horrible* when I’m done. I can curl a ribbon.

REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE? Yes- I had Cucumber Melon which today smells gross to me.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? Nope but I’m going to try out a ginger bread recipe. I’m not a cook so it’s not from scratch- a box from Trader Joe’s

WEEKLY GOALS: Relax, enjoy my break off from school, enjoy time with the family

ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES?: 3ish. I'm horrible.

REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?: I remember a lemon one that I really liked YEARS ago.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR?: Some type of quiche, and various sweets 🙂

    2. ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES?
Oh man, I would probably be at a 7 or 8. I’m a neat gift-wrapper, but I’m not that into wasting wrapping paper.

    3. REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?
Yes! I love the Mandarin Mango. Unless that doesn’t count as old school, hehehe.

    4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR?
    Nah. I wish, though!

    5. WEEKLY GOALS: Post more articles on my blog, meet with the people I promised to meet, and go to Ikea to get a new desk chair!

MOOD: relaxed, I am on holiday till January, 7th!

ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES?
7, but I only do this for people who will appreciate this.

REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE?
Not in Germany, or I missed something.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? My family makes a salad with potatoes, apples, eggs, meat (not for me any more), gherkins, beet roots and mayonaise. In the end it will be a pink salad and it starts getting better every day, but after 4 days I’m done with it for another year.

    WEEKLY GOALS:
Start reorganizing my appartment and my life 🙂 do some yoga and try some new recipes.

    Have a wonderful time everyone!

1.MOOD: Happy to have both my kids home from college and most of the Christmas preparations done.

2.ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES? About 7-8 I used to watch those ladies wrap gifts in department stores and learned a few tricks. I only have three more gifts to wrap!

3.REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE? I seem to remember a vanilla scented one.

    4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? On Christmas I buy a honey baked ham and make my delicious potato salad and macaroni and cheese.

5.WEEKLY GOALS: Have a safe smooth trip to Baltimore and enjoy time with my extended family. When we get back my cat Blaow can get his sutures taken out, so glad when that happens!

MOOD: Relaxed. My shopping was done by Saturday and I”m not cooking for Christmas so I really didn’t have anything to do. I ran to Target to get a few last minute things and it wasn’t too bad and now I’m going to wrap the last few gifts.
ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES? 7. The corners always get me and sometimes I get caught with cutting the paper too long.
REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE? Of course I remember them because I probably owned a million of them. I think Juniper Breeze was a fave as well as Sweet Pea.
DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? I try to make Pumpkin Pie everything Thanksgiving and Christmas. I did 2 for Thanksgiving but for Christmas I’m just bringing drinks.
WEEKLY GOALS: Enjoy Christmas and New Years, declutter my apt and see my best friend who just got into town! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Karen!

ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES? 5ish? I’m not bad, but I just don’t care that much!

REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE? Cucumber Melon!

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? Nope! I did de-glutenize my dad’s sugar cookie recipe this year though!

WEEKLY GOALS: Start planning meal ideas so that I can plan ahead during the semester and not have to rely on Jimmy Johns so much!

    1. MOOD: calm…. I had Christmas with my family yesterday, so now I feel like I can relax. Haha.
    2. ON A SCALE OF ONE TO 10, WITH 10 BEING MARTHA STEWART-CALIBER SKILL, HOW WOULD YOU RATE YOUR GIFT-WRAPPING ABILITIES? I’d give myself an 8. I used to loooooove wrapping presents. Now, eh.
    3. REMEMBER THOSE OLD-SCHOOL BODY SPLASHES FROM BATH AND BODY WORKS? DID YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ONE? I never had those.
    4. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL HOLIDAY DISH YOU TRY TO MAKE EVERY YEAR? My family always has pasta for Christmas (usually with pigsfeet, but this year it was just regular meatballs). We never really need any sides or anything. I usually make almond biscotti, but I didn’t this year for some reason.
    5. WEEKLY GOALS: Knit, clean up my house after all this Christmas madness, Thin Man and Harry Potter movie marathons.

    Merry Christmas!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
