Leave a Comment for a Chance to Win a $50 Sephora E-GIFT CARD! (Ends Monday)

March 5th, 2016 by Karen 412 Comments

** THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **

This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, MICHELLE!!!), but check back next Saturday for another giveaway.

Sephora giveaway!

This place needs a Sephora. That would totally take the Kaiser SF hospital to the next level. Picture it: Sephoras inside the maternity ward — mini Sephoras, like the small ones inside JCPenney stores, but, like, a Sephora in the maternity ward at the hospital.

I think I’m on to something. 🙂

Good morning, beautiful! I just woke up from a rollicking four hours of sleep, which sounds lame, but in this brave new world of being Connor’s mom, four hours is awesome.

I should be going home today, and I’m really excited about it. Introducing Connor and Tabs will be like a meeting of world superpowers. I just hope the two of them can reach a détente.

It’s Saturday, right? I’m pretty sure it’s Saturday… I’m starting to lose track of the days, but assuming it’s Saturday, let’s get on with the giveaway. I hope your weekend is filled with delicious brunch goodies, lots of hugs, a cat or two and good coffee. Talk to you soon, my friend.

I look forward to hearing about this Epic Meeting b/t Connor Claire & Tabs!

Best makeup brush cleaner hands/brushes down would be that by Cinema Secrets. Despite that toxic (but gorgeous!) blue color, it just gets the job done and it smells vanilla-ish lovely, too.

Congrats! My 82 year old grandma would agree. She recemtly found herself in the hospital with no lipstick or hairbrush. She doesn’t go anywhere without her lipstick! And I was born with a full thick head of hair. The top was red and underneath blond.

Once caged in hospital for months with ugly face, I wish there was a place where you can just pop in there for some quick fix so that they won’t see you looking not-so-good. I feel jealous that you still look fabulous without makeup. I mean…what’s the secret???

I just realized that I forgot to mention how spectacularly gorgeous Connor is for a newborn!

An who would have imagined a world in which four hours of unbroken sleep is a luxury?

I like your description of the upcoming meeting of Tabs and Connor…

I was born with a full head of long, jet-black hair.
    Which promptly fell out.
What grew back was a mousy brown, in a family of brunettes and redheads. I never really appreciated my hair until it started to go gray in an attractive way.

I wear earrings and a watch (my form of bracelet) every day, but I love a necklace or scarf for framing my face and elevating an outfit.

The last beauty product I recommended to someone was the Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Leave-In Conditioning Mist – even though it says it’s for fine hair and I have medium-thick hair, it works amazing for me. It really does help with detangling and keeping the frizz down.

Congratulations Karen. I can’t wait to hear all about the delivery of Conner! As far as jewelry goes my favorite pieces are ring s but after that comes earrings. Currently my most favorite and consistently used makeup is the Elf lash tint, which I use as a base under the Loreal telescopic carbon black, and my natural matte Viseart palette. I use the Viseart palette to conceal dark under eye circles after applying cream products, contouring my nose, and priming my lids for other e/s.

    Hey Karen and family,
Again congratulations on the new addition to your family – a beautiful baby girl. Yes I do think you could be on to something with a Sephora in the hospital. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been there and forgotten my mu bag at home only to have to beg someone to bring it to me. Being dolled up in a hospital bed is definitely on trend. My love and blessings to you all.

Now the last thing I purchased was the MUFE Full Cover Camo Cream. This stuff is gold and magic all shoved into one tiny bottle. Of course purchased from Sephora and I really want to get those Sephora brand correctors and concealers.

At 39 years old, I currently have just 3 open piercings (down from 9 in my 20s): my earlobes and a little opal stud in my right nostril. It’s meaningful to me because I was told as a teen that no one would love me unless I got a nose job, so my opal stud is a middle finger that says my nose is just fine, fits with the rest of my face, and I’m not hiding it.

congratulations, love!! miss connor is gorgeous (of course!!) and I’m happy to hear you made it through… though tbh your whole ordeal sounds terrifying!! ? I’ll bet tabs was waiting with baited kitty breath until he received word that all was well!

After I was born, following a considerably less harrowing but still drawn out birth, (ten hours!) i had enough very dark hair that I had a little pony on top of my head for the hospital photo! 🙂

today, I also have a (less dark) pony on top of my head, and I shall tell you my incredibly simple jewelry routine: I have silver loops in my ears, a mostly-silver/swarovski-sparkled beaded bracelet on my left wrist, and a silver (sensing a theme? lol) necklace around my neck. and as for the routine? the simple part is that I never take any of those things off. seriously. I clean them every once in awhile, but I haven’t removed them on purpose for anything but an X-ray in AGES! I will wear one necklace for months until I become enamored with a new one. they’re always pretty low key, tho. Currently, it’s a super thin chain with a teensy tiny dainty little minimalist silver giraffe living it’s best dangling life. 🙂

other than that, I have a couple rings I’ll throw on if the mood strikes me, but I’m way more likely to alternate my lippies than my jewelry!

get some rest and pass some love onto sweet BG! 🙂 xx

Yesterday, I bought the MAC x Zac Posen lipstick in Dangerously Red. I stopped by the counter in Macy’s to get makeup tips for a friend, & I made the mistake of swatching this color on my hand. Next thing I knew, I was at the register with my debit card in hand. I have NO idea how that happened…LOL! It’s such a gorgeous color. I was born with no hair. Then it came in blonde and stayed that way until I was about 4 years old. It kept getting darker after that and now my hair is dark brown. I wish the blonde had stayed.

Congratulations on Baby Connor. Love the name!

I’m in an accessories craze right now where I’m buying classic pieces such as solid colored tops and adding accessories like necklaces and scarves to my wardrobe. Loft seems to carry some of my most recent accessory purchases.

Since it’s rainy, haven’t worn many except scarves. Waiting till it gets warmer and less rainy.

So glad that you are doing well by now, enjoy to get to know your precious little girl, I am mother of two BG’s, big girls by now.
I was born with black hair and a squeezed nose, als I came 14 days too late and obviously had no more space *lol*
Earrings and rings are my favourite jewellery.I have six earrings , three of then in the auricular cartilage, does this count als piercing? I got them wegen I still was in my teens and one called it piercing, at least here in Europe 😀
The last recommended beauty product? May be the Chocolate Bar Palette, als it is hard to get here, but soon I will be heading to the US after ages and get all those fancy products you are presenting me all the time ?

    Hello Karen,
Welcome to the world Connor!!! So glad everything going grand! The very last thing that I enthusiastically recommended to someone was Revlon’s Colorstay Creme foundation! I love it over BECCA, KatVonDee – all of them. I’ve tried many and they all go back to Sephora. It blends like a dream….. I just can’t wear it in the summer so I go to the liquid version. It has an impeccable finish and doesn’t budge. I’d like to find a high-end one that I really like, but I just haven’t. I’ll keep looking!!!
So glad everything’s well and hope the transition with Tabs goes well…. Gracie I don’t know how she’d do… she’s accepted my boyfriend.. and loves him. God Bless all of you!!!

Since the birth of my youngest, I’ve been desiring for each store to have a drive through. I don’t feel like dragging two kiddos in the snow to get my concealer! Sure, I can order online, but this requires the level of thinking ahead I do not currently possess. If I have a 3-year-old neighbor’s birthday party happening this weekend, I need high-end products NOW (yes, I know how pathetic this sounds, but these are my occasions to doll up these days…). The Sephora drive through should have three or four lines, like a bank, and a simple system for choosing cosmetics that asks you what your skin type/color is etc. Wouldn’t it be something?

The last “piece” of makeup I purchased was actually a haul of several Marc Jacobs items, including a few eyeliners (had one before, loved it so much I went back for more!), a blush, and the coconut water primer. I highly recommend anyone looking for a great eyeliner try these – no skipping, tugging, and such a smooth, effortless line. I don’t have the steadiest hands so I can’t use most eyeliners – but these are the bomb!

Last makeup item I bought (yesterday) was MAC Studio Fix Fluid. My first ever liquid foundation. I used to think that I didn’t need foundation because I had really good skin, and I would do a lot of smokey eye looks. I just learned that regardless of how nice your skin is, if you’re doing a smokey eye or any kind of bold makeup you need foundation to pull it all together, otherwise, you look not finished. Also, moisturize. It’s one of the differences between amateur and professional looking makeup application.

I do want to try Dr. Bonner and the Cinema one too. I giggled when I read about wishing there was a Sephora in the hospital. That would really be a good idea. I bet they’d make a ton of money. I was born with light brown hair, not a ton but enough to tape a ribbon in. That’s what my mom and aunts did to me. I was the last of 3 girls born into a family of mostly boys. My female cousins are 15 + years older than me. Enjoy all the fun and not so fun times with your baby, you will blink and she will be starting college. Best of luck

I was born with a full head of hair, 4 teeth, and long fingernails. Note that I was made in American but born in Germany. German nurses did not cut my nails or wrap my hands so I scratched my face all night and my mother refused to believe the “monster” child presented to her the next day was hers. (I’ve often wondered myself if perhaps there was a mix up.) Teeth fell out, got regular baby teeth, then adult teeth. Hair, well, even though I was born with it I seem to have been at the end of the line and all they had left was STICK STRAIGHT WON’T HOLD A CURL, FINE AND THIN. Since that was all they had left that’s what I got–a LIFETIME of BAD HAIR, no matter what I do product or device wise. I was also born tongue-tied, which can contribute to failure to thrive, but Mother some how convinced the Docs to clip it (runs in the family) even thought they didn’t believe it.

Karen I am so happy that BG Connor has arrived–as difficult a trip as it was for both of you!!! WOW!!! Hope you know we were all pulling for you. I am surprised that Kaiser waited so long to do a C-Section.

Welcome to new Novato Girl Connor! Long may Princess Connor reign!

I was content buying drug store products. Now … I LOVE sephora and ulta and can say I know what all the hype was about. The last product I bought was an Younique moodstruck pallete … which I’m still on the fence about. However, I’d recommend Urban Decay naked 2 pallete to anyone who wants to listen.

Hi, so this is kind of random for this blog post but I just wanted to say that I came upon your blog post on chin acne a few weeks ago and for some reason yours just stuck out to me out of the hundreds ( and i mean hundreds) of articles I read. I picked up the kate sommerville antibacterial lotion and the neutrogena acne face wash and its actually made a difference in this short time. I didnt get the other two products just because I’m in college and it’s a little pricey but I’ve found alternatives that are similiar and work pretty well! I also have those painful underground pimples as well as normal whiteheads and blackheads along my jawline and chin. It was so frustrating every morning waking up and seeing a new pimple or no progress at all, but it seems to be getting better and it’s pretty much thanks to your tips. Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu 🙂

•Were you born with hair or without? Born with hair but not like my younger sister – she had a mop of hair when she was born!

•What’s the best makeup brush cleanser? I’m actually not sure what it’s called but it’s a blue liquid in a bottle and it’s amazeballs. That’s a word, right?

•Would you rather wear earrings, a necklace or a bracelet? I’m a bracelet person 🙂

•What’s the last beauty product you enthusiastically recommended to someone? Hourglass Veil primer. I love this stuff. Makes my face so soft – sometimes I just wear it without any foundation or anything! I’m a huge fan.

•How many piercings do you have? None. I’m super afraid it will hurt like crazy lol…

•What’s the last piece of makeup you bought? Last piece of makeup I bought was an eyeliner pencil. My brown had died and I needed a new one. I haven’t bought a lot lately because my mother-in-law likes to send me new things she’s tried and my husband signed me up for a three month trial of Birchbox so I’ve been experimenting. Plus, I’ve been getting into Korean beauty and not wearing a full face of makeup lately.

Thank you for the giveaway (and I can’t believe you’re holding one so quickly after Connor Claire’s birth!).

Hair — I had a full head of brown hair when born, and it promptly fell out leaving me a towhead when some finally grew back in. Every photo from toddler and early childhood shows me with blonde hair. Unfortunately, it darkened to mousy brown over the years.

Last item of makeup was a Marcelle Lux lipgloss in fuchsia. It has the nice side effect of leaving a pretty pink stain after the gloss wears off.

I would recommend Bite Beauty lipsticks to *anyone* — last spring I bought my first one at Sephora, in Fig, and wear it every day at work. So moisturizing. It got me in trouble at work because it left a mark on my coffee cup which I’d forgotten to wipe off before putting it in the dishwasher. I understand their new formulation isn’t as moisturizing, though.

Just watched the Tabs meets Connor Claire video. Am now dead from cute.

I was born with hair and hope my baby will be too! Sephora carts in the hospital ward would be amazing. Even a little vending machine would do!

Hope everything went well with baby girl and Mr. Tabs! When I was brought into my mom, she says she just woke up from the anesthesia and swore they switched babies. Her hair was black, dad’s blonde and me, bright orange. I used to think maybe there was a mix-up, but now I definitely have my mom’s long thin nose. Hope you have lots of fun as a new mommy and that you can get 5 hours of sleep tonight.

I strongly recommend Laura Mercier’s matte bronzer to anyone! It doesn’t go on too heavy, so it is perfect for my fair skin! I also just bought the LipKit by Kyle Cosmetics to find out what all the hype is about!

What an awesome giveaway! Thanks for the chance. Right now, I have six piercings. I used to have eleven but have taken some out for my job. In terms of jewelry, it’s hard for me to wear bracelets and earrings are slightly uncomfortable. If I had to choose, I’d wear necklaces only (or RINGS). 🙂

I was born with a full head of hair! My mom and I had to stay in the hospital for a few days (I was a C-section baby), and apparently the nurses had lots of fun giving me a new hairstyle every day because they’d never seen a newborn with so much hair before.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
