I started wearing purple eyeliner when I was a tween, and so when I crunch the numbers…WOWZA. Officially, for the makeup record, I have been wearing le face paint for more than 30 years (about 32, to be exact).
THIRTY YEARS.
That’s a lot of liner and lipstick, my friends. ?
How about you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. TGIF.
Rachel says
I would say 23 years. Trying to remember if I really started wearing makeup in 8th or 9th grade.
Janine says
43 years, yes, that’s right, I’m 56 (going on 57) and I started with lip gloss in 8th grade and was allowed the “full face” at 14/15 yrs old in the era of blue eyeshadow and bright pink blush. I have always had a love of makeup and even dabbled in retail makeup sales for 11 yrs. I would LOVE to see a pile of all the foundations, blushes, mascaras and eyeshadows, and lipsticks I have loved and lost over the years. Excellent question, Karen. Love to you & the Coywolf!

My mother was really strict and said I couldn’t start wearing makeup until I was sixteen. But I remember wearing mascara as a freshman in high school. So since I was 14. Not gonna say how long ago that was. But “We’re An American Band” by Grand Funk Railroad and “Angie” by The Rolling Stones were hit songs. By senior year I can remember wearing this shadow quad by a company called Aziza and it had a yellow leaning mint green, a peachy pink, a yellow and a light medium gray. Funny that I still remember that quad. Also the pans were triangular shaped.
Rachel Runyan says
Almost 39 years, more if you count clear lip gloss as a 9-t0-11-year-old.
Lauren says
46 years, gosh I’m getting old!
Efra says
Now I feel I’m too young, I started at the age of fifteen so only eleven years. And I’m shocked about how many things have changed during these years, from makeup to myself: if someone had told me that I’d be wearing mascara and lipstick in my twenties I would’ve laughed so hard.
Michele DiCola says
I started wearing eyeliner in middle school . So I graduated high school in
1966 .
That’s 50 plus years . I started w about 15 eyeliners and worked up to an amount I can’t ever count . Eyeliners , shadows and lipsticks . Mascara in a special drawer . And I keep buying !
Leigh says
63 years . . . I bet I won! ?
Pamela says
Holy moly! You got me beat by thirty years!!!! Good on ya!
Eileen says
I’ve got you beat, Leigh. ? It’s been 64 years that I’ve worn makeup on a regular basis; 65 years if I count the bit of mascara and lipstick my mom would let me wear for very special occasions.
Looks like you’ve got quite a cross generational readership, Karen.
Julie says
A great question! I remember wearing thick black eyeliner in ninth grade, so it’s been (gasp!) 50 years. My mother actually bought me a Yardley eye shadow quad because she was so compelled by the sales person.
Marcia says
I think I’ve been wearing makeup for about 30 years too. Don’t think I wore that much makeup if any in high school, but definitely was wearing more makeup in my twenties.
Virginia says
Good question, Karen. It’s been about 20 years for me. I’d also be interested in hearing what your first makeup was. After Bonne Belle Lip Smackers, I had age-appropriate Clinique makeup in 7th grade. I was able to wear it to a holiday dance. Mauve blush, almost lipstick (almost bare, a nude and I think it’s dc), light pink eyeshadow, brown mascara, and a pressed powder.
I think I could have layered them all day and you might not have known, but I felt so glamorous.
Pamela says
I will start counting from when I started wearing makeup every day. That was when I was 13 so that makes 33 years of standing in front of the mirror.
Nikki Wogoman says
Off and on since I was in 1st grade (dance recitals from 1st grade through senior year), on a regular or semi-regular basis since high school. So somewhere between 10 and 22-ish (I don’t want to give my exact age, for safety reasons) years.
Eileen says
64 years. Needless to say, I’ve seen many things come and go as the decades have rolled on by.
Bec says
I started wearing makeup vaguely often/ owning my own makeup (not just stealing my mum’s) around 11 years ago, I’m only 23 though so I got into makeup early aka basically when I started high school. Honestly 12/13 year old me was much more adventurous with eyeshadow, although my lip product was only a gloss & I had 1 blush. A bit different from now when I just switch up the same nude eye look but change lipstick & blush like every day.
Kim says
36 years – my mother thought I should start wearing a little something for Jr High school pictures. I’m sure I would have come to it on my own shortly after that. 🙂
Karen C. says
48 years – good grief am I really that old?! Funny thing is, I wear more now than ever! So what?! 🙂 lol
Anne says
Hm… 27 years. And I didn´t even start that early.
