February 21st, 2015 by Karen 718 Comments

** THE GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED **

This giveaway is closed, and the winner has been contacted (CONGRATULATIONS, LORRAINE!!!), but check back next Saturday for another Sephora giveaway.

Win a $50 Sephora e-gift card from Makeup and Beauty Blog
Win a $50 Sephora e-gift card from Makeup and Beauty Blog

Right now I’m being assaulted by your nephew tabby — assaulted with kitty love. I’m sitting in an awkward position on the couch that is not conducive to tabby lap-sitting. He’s kind of draped over my left hip, making do with what’s available to him. In his eyes, he’s probably claiming what is his, because everything clearly exists for the happiness of the tabby. 🙂

So my new favorite thing to do on weekend mornings is drink chai tea. I use the pre-made mix by Big Train, and it’s SO GOOD. I like to have it while watching Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo, which they seem to have changed. It’s no longer ordinary millionaire Joes looking for love. Now it’s like Chilli from TLC looking for love. She’s a bonafide celebrity in my book, but some of them are more “celebrities,” as in celebrities in “air quotes.”

Spencer and Heidi were on there to set up Spencer’s sister, Stephanie.

I hate that I know this…

I do have to say that Stephanie Pratt did a good job on the group date, though.

This is so dumb… Why am I talking about this?

Anywho! Trying something a little different with the weekly giveaway today. I’m trying to keep it simple, ’cause in these complicated times, simplicity is always a welcome thing. To enter, check the full details down below, but in a nutshell, just leave a comment.

Good luck, and have a great Oscar weekend. Talk to you soon.

Win a $50 gift card from Sephora

  • One (1) Sephora eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

  • Enter by leaving a comment below.
  • Open to U.S. and international readers.
  • You must be 18 or older to enter (or otherwise an adult based on your local laws).
  • Your comment can be about anything at all, but here are some ideas if you’re stuck:
    • Of all the different styles of smoky eyes, what’s your current personal fave?
    • Would you wear a color-blocked liner look like this one here.
    • What’s your favorite picture/painting on your walls?
    • Do you have any birthmarks or moles?
    • Somewhere you’re trying to travel this year?
    • Is there something important on your mind?
  • One entry per person.
  • You must use a valid email address to win.
  • The giveaway ends on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time). 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have a birthmark on my neck in the shape of a hart, people who don’t understand that that is birthmark (ignorance) or just plain playing interesting (dumb) give comments like, hey girl what have you been doing? with a grin on their faces. Luckily I don’t get that kind of remarks anymore. I guess they grow and playing dumb is not more in anymore.

I didn’t knew pets can be OSD, really. We got her (dog ) a new doggy plate, cause hers is a lil bit broken at the side. She refuse to eat in her new plate. Today we got her old plate back and she is eating happily and normal again. She is really a complex doggy 🙂 ,she makes cow sounds when she is sleeping or tired. She folds her legs in ways I didn’t knew was possible for her (talking about an elastic girl), and when she doesn’t agree with you, she speaks( barks) her mind.

My favorite smokey eye is one that uses one main color as a theme and then two other colors that make it stand out. Like a peach smokey eye with a rose gold highlight and a grey crease. I don’t wear line so pass on that. My favorite picture is of a milkmaid but I can’t remember the name of the artist. I saw it in a museum and it is like a polaroid in the very center where every single detail just looks like the woman can walk right out of the portrait, and the rest of the scenery is just as lovely. I want to check out some real good bbq spots this year but I’m not sure where just yet. lol And right now I have finals on my mind and the new Nars blushes that are coming out in March on my mind. Like omg have you seen how gorgeous they are? I want like three of them.

Not just mandatory stuff like college and chores, but fun things with friends and family. Most important: do things by myself! I went shopping yesterday, all by myself, and it felt SO good. All kinds of smoky eyes are good, but the best eye shadow for me includes something light and shiny on the inner 1/3 to 2/3 of my lid, since my eyes are small and hooded and mostly brown and hidden behind my glasses. They need something light and shiny to bring them forward. I can do a dark blue/gray smoky eye all around, but it looks pretty dramatic on me. A bit much for daytime elder care, lol.

Hello Ms Karen! 🙂 I have come to the realization recently that I should never underestimate the confidence boosting abilities of winged eyeliner. This week has been busy and I wake up looking quite lack luster. But as soon as I sweep Stila’s black eyeliner pen, creating the perfect little “flick” I feel instantly better! Thanks for the giveaway! Simone (simone-fernandes@uiowa.edu)

Do I have moles? Probably, a better question would be how many moles do I have? Seriously, I swear I find a new one every other month or so. It’s actually a family thing since I inherited my mole-ness (totally just made that word up) from several women in my family. My mom’s older sister & I each have a mole above our upper lip on the left. And my great aunt has the same mole in the exact location as the two of us. I can’t trace how far back this goes, though I suppose I could if I tried. I use to hate this mole. H-A-T-E! I’d tell my mom when I was a kid that I wanted to cut it off. She swore I’d bleed to death #trueStory. But over the years I’ve developed an affinity for it & kinda like it. Occassioally, I get compliments on it but my favorite times are when toddlers walk up to me & point it out or ask me what it is or try to remove it. Lol! I love curious toddlers. 🙂

My favorite piece of art on my walls is a red poppy mosaic piece. It caught my eye on etsy several years ago, then was listed as sold. I would still go back and look at it every once in a while. Then I had some money, I thought I’d see if the artist had anything else I liked, and lo and behold, the poppies were back listed! I snatched those up so fast! He had apparently pulled it off etsy because it was in a gallery. It’s a very pretty orange, green and reflective gold with a few natural river stones. I love it.

My favorite picture is one of me and my ‘childhood cat’ Dikkiedik. He was very sick back then, and I was afraid that it would be the last time I saw him. I made pictures with him ‘just in case’. On one of the pictures, you see me kissing him on his cheek, and he looks so happy.. a genuine smile! It was a really tough time when he was so sick, but he managed to get through! We got to enjoy him for 2 more years. The picture is in a frame near the rest of his stuff that I can’t get rid of (like his food bowl). I miss this little guy so much.

boy could I use a gift card to Sephora. Lost a bunch of my makeup flying over the holidays–set my makeup bag down on the seat next to me while waiting at the gate, turned around and it was gone! My brand new Laura Mercier palette, and my set of Bite lip pencils…we had so little time together. We were still in the honeymoon phase. Farewell, my loves.

Loving the unicorn GIF on the Sephora picture. That picture basically sums up how I feel about makeup, beauty & Sephora :)!!! Anyhoo … back to the comment for the giveaway. I’m not feeling that color block eyeliner. Just call me old fashioned, I guess. Hmmm. What else? Oh yeah! I’m currently obsessed with Colour Pop cosmetics. Everything they offer is such amazing quality. Their eye shadows are unlike anything I’d ever used or even seen before! Their lippie stix & lippie pencils coordinate perfectly & come in so many shades & finishes. & they just released a line of blushes that look so vibrant & beautiful & are supposed to be the same consistency as their eyeshadows. & the best part??? The eyeshadows, lippie primer, lippie stix & lippie pencils are all $5 each & the blushes are $8 each!!! Once those blushes were released I just hsd to place another order (which I’m waiting for rather impatiently). But I seriously need to make a Sephora run because it’s been a while! Hubby put me on a makeup buying time out for a bit & I’m in serious withdrawal. Seeing so many beautiful new makeup on Instagram is making me antsy!!! Thank you for another generous giveaway! Got my fingers crossed!!! ♡♡♡

I love lip products, but am unfortunately allergic to certain ingredients in them. It all started with lip balms, and there are pretty much no lip balms other than plain Vaseline that I can use without reactions. I still haven’t figured out exactly what I’m sensitive/allergic to even after 100 patch tests… So every new product is a gamble for me. I really like the Too Faced La Creme lipsticks, but they make my lips itchy, red, and peel. So disappointing. I guess I will try to stick to products without too much fragrance to ensure less chance of irritation, but these are pretty rare in lip products. I did like the NARS Audacious lipsticks, but since my lips are in a perennial state of dryness, I need more hydrating yet pigmented products that are appropriate for work. So I’m continuing my quest… Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Drugstore or high end!

I think my favorite picture on the wall would have to be one of Loch Eilt in Scotland; aka ‘Dumbledore’s Burial Island’. Nerdy, I know, but aside from the fact that the greatest wizard in the world is buried there, I find the whole place shrouded by an aura of mysticism. I would love to one day take my children to Scotland and explore the highlands again – there’s a sense of captivating mystery and stillness that just transfixes you! Every time I look at this giant framed photograph, I’m transported to a world of magic, mystery, and secrets.

But that’s a good thing, I guess. (: Anyways, I figured that I would talk about a new experiment that I’ll be trying shortly. I’m definitely more of a “neutral” girl when it comes to eyeshadow. Well, “warm neutral”. And I rarely stray from it, which means that I have gorgeous colors that go neglected. I think that I’m going to try to alternate days (neutral and color). Of course the color doesn’t have to dominate the whole look, but my lower lashline may get some green or purple love. Anyways, thanks for the giveaway!

First off, I’m so jealous of Tabs showering you with kitty love. My kitties are ticked off about the incessant snow and cold and are convinced I’m making it be that way as a form of feline torture.

Second, thanks for ditching the Rafflecopter this time. I find those things to be such a hassle.

My favorite thing on the wall is a very small abstracty- watercolor painting my husband did of me while I was sleeping many, many moons ago when we first started living together. I was covered in a blanket my mother had knit for me when I was little. It was really sweet.

Chai tea is one of my favorites, I’ll have to check out that brand. Of course, I’m a weirdo who doesn’t like any milk in her chai.

What’s pressing on my mind right now is the return of Frank and Claire Underwood aka House of Cards to Netflix next Friday. I cannot wait.

Favorite picture on my wall: currently this buffalo print my mom got me for my birthday. My dog has a stuffed toy buffalo that he has loved since he was a baby. The thing is falling apart and tattered to pieces but I just can’t let it go. Hence why she got me the print.

I also have this small print of Fra Angelico’s Annunciation I bought when I was in Florence. It’s a shame too because I met this street painter there that did really cool paintings of Florence and Tuscany in general, but my paintings I shipped back never made it.

Which leads me to answering another question, the one place I want to get back to would be Italy, particularly Florence!

My words of wisdom: This may seem weird, but for those of us with oilier skin, that extra oil makes the very best cuticle cream! It’s natural and cheap and comes from your own body so no worries about allergic reaction!

My absolute favorite picture on our wall is a picture of my husband, son and me. We had a photo taken of my husband and me when I had my baby belly and another picture in the exact same pose holding my son as a baby. The photos are framed side by side and it is so wonderful having those memories to look back on!

I wish I could do fancy eye liner looks, but I can’t even do a simple line. My lid folds over all the way to the lashes, so nothing shows up or I have to do a big fat (like a half inch) line for it to show beyond the fold.

It’s been a hard week for me. One of my old kitties, who live with my Mum & Stepdad in Tasmania, had to be put to sleep last Wednesday. He would have been nearly 15, but I felt awful, I felt I hadn’t visited them enough this last year. His name was Charlie, he was an enormous ginger tabby, and the sweetest tempered cat I’ve ever met. He was a lover, not a fighter. We called him Chef Charlie because as soon as anyone was in the kitchen, he was there too. He was beautiful, and I miss him so much.

Yay! Excited about the simplified raffle entry. I’ve just started seeing the new Nars dual Density BLUSHES online. So excited. For your winter skin, have you tried the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask? It’s a Korean brand that some Targets are carrying it. It’s pretty amazing. Getting me through Colorado winter.

    Hi !

Thank you for the opportunity. My favorite picture on my wall is one of my cat, when he was a baby, lying down amongst my little brother’s animal toys. I think he was thinking he was the lion king or something 😀 now he is 12 y-o, but still quite tiny (3,8 kgs, i don’t know its size) and as crazy.
He’s one of my best friends, of course!

My favorite picture on my walls is a canvas print of one of my wedding photos. My husband and I are standing in the woods; he’s kissing me while dipping me. I love that photo because it captures not just our love of Fall & nature, but it epitomizes the theme of our wedding. Our photographer also used a filter on the photo so the contrast is intense and makes the photo even more beautiful.

My mom was looking at my Amazon wishlist recently to try to figure out what to get me for my birthday, asked me to update it, and I said, “well, really what i wish is that Sephora had a better wishlist… I spend so much there.” I think she’s flabbergasted that that’s my kind of thing these days. But it got me beautiful shiny gift card to there, which I will use as soon as I get done with moving. 😀

    Hi Karen,

I’ve spent this snowy weekend on the East Coast trying to organize my beauty products and accessories. I’m a product and accessory zunkie and I have two boys under 10, who have autism. My 8 year old is very meddlesome and busy; so, I cannot leave items sitting on my dresser and he’s drawn to large storage containers like a beacon. I would appreciate any suggestions….Thanks

    About the “block eyeliner”: NO.
Might be great on the runway, but a lot of runway looks (or styles actually) don’t work at all in real life if your goal with makeup is to look your best!

my favorite picture in my house is a large canvas print made from a photograph of my youngest daughter when she was 2 years old, taken on our vacation to florida. she was leaning over to sniff a pretty flower at epcot next to the lagoon, and the flower matched the color of her dress. a beautiful profile shot. my mother had it blown up into the large canvas and even though my “baby” is nearing 21 years of age now, this portrait still hangs on my wall and it makes me smile every day when i see it. <3

Wow.. that sounds like a pretty cozy day in my book. I love kitties, chai tea and slightly trashy reality tv (love the Millionaire Matchmaker!). I do have a birthmark. There is a small spot on my head where my hair grows in like a greyish white. I’m told it’s a birthmark.. or a place where my hair lacks pigment. My mom always said it’s where the angel last touched me when I was born.. so I’ll go with that.
