MAC giveaway
Win a $50 MAC eGIFT CARD from Makeup and Beauty Blog

Good morning, glory. Happy caturday! Meows all around.

So, I watched a surprisingly entertaining movie on iTunes last night called Love, Rosie, and I thought you should know about it…just in case you’re ever in the mood for something light and fluffy that also happens to star the guy who played Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

You know, just in case you need something that meets all three of those important criteria — light, fluffy and starring Finnick Odair. 🙂

It wasn’t bad! I mean, OK, it only gets a 26% on rottentomatoes, but I swear, it’s better than that.

In other news, I’m driving into the city this morning to have breakfast with my brother, and my most difficult decision at the moment is whether I should order the buckwheat pancakes, or the huevos rancheros.

Hmm… I might end up getting both, ’cause that’s how I roll.

Have a great weekend, whatever you’re up to, and may it be filled with cats.

Prize

  • One (1) MAC eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

$50 MAC eGIFT CARD

Rules

  • Enter by leaving a comment below.
  • Open to U.S. and international readers.
  • You must be 18 or older to enter (or otherwise an adult based on your local laws).
  • Your comment can be about anything at all, but here are some ideas if you’re stuck:
    • What scent reminds you of your mom?
    • Make a real word using all of the letters in your first name (you can also use additional letters if you want to). Here’s one for me: “hanker,” because I have a “hankering” for a yummy breakfast. 🙂
    • Did you do any shopping this week? What did you get?
    • Have you ever gotten into a big argument with someone at work?
    • What’s the chismis (pronounced chees-mees), which is Tagalog for “gossip”?
    • Would you rather 1) live forever, or 2) live a normal length of time but never need to sleep?
  • One entry per person.
  • You must use a valid email address to win.
  • The giveaway ends on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11:59 PM (Pacific Time). 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

shopping this weekend…just purchased the Tarte Showstopper palette and I love all of it but am a little hesitant about the shimmery eye shadows since I have hooded eyes. Hoping to be convinced I can make it work! Other shopping this weekend? I may stop by Ulta for a pair of false eyelashes and some mascara. I’m sure other things will fall in my cart too!

Here Rainbows End, also known as Love, Rosie, by Cecilia Ahern is the book that the film is based off of.

If you have any spare time, I would highly suggest reading the book. The premise is similar to the film in that Rosie and Alex are best friends but the entire book is a collection of letters and emails between them. The storyline is different because it’s drawn out over a longer period of the characters’ lives.

    Hi all,
The scent that reminds me the most of my mom is Chanel Mademoiselle – she’s been wearing it for as long as I can remember and to this day I haven’t found a perfume that I love as much as that one.
Also the scent of jasmine…it used to grow right outside of my childhood home 🙂

Chanel #5 reminds me of my mom and she wears it better than anyone I’ve ever met. There’s something about her body chemistry and Chanel #5, it smells really nice on her.

I bought some CND Vinylux nail polish off Ebay. The seller has an Ebay store with several listings, you can pick 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 12 colors. All the reviews for the seller said it was legit so I bought 6 and I’m pleased to say they are real. For the price I was concerned they’d be fakes. If they are fake, they are GOOD fakes. Anyway, I’m convinced this is the closest I can get to gel without actually getting a gel manicure. This stuff is AH-MAZING. I also bought a Da Bird from Amazon for my cats. I have a pair of jeans from LOFT that I need to exchange, I saw they are running a 50% off in stores today. I don’t have time to go today though, that’s probably better anyway. I’d just end up buying more and my husband would roll his eyes.

Have a great Caturday, I love going out for breakfast.

What scent reminds you of your mom?
Her scent! She didn’t wear any particular perfume on a daily basis. Actually in some way it’s a good thing that it’s not something I can smell anymore, It would have made me cry every time I did! :\

Did you do any shopping this week? What did you get?
Got a shirt at lord and taylor on wednesday and I’m about to stop at sephora on my way to work to stock up on some essentials…aka the beautyblender solid cleanser and Kat Von D’s tattoo liner!

Have you ever gotten into a big argument with someone at work?
No, but I’ve had customers that were very rude if that counts…probably not, cause I wasn’t arguing with them!

Would you rather 1) live forever, or 2) live a normal length of time but never need to sleep?
I would live a normal life span and not sleep. I’ve read about too many immortal characters, I’ve learned my lesson!

So, my mom loves the smell of roses, so she’s always buying rose scented air fresheners and diffusion oil things for the house. But while I think of my mother when I think of rose scented things, the scent itself doesn’t remind me of her, the smell of an old shampoo she used to use does. Of course, I have no idea what shampoo it is. There’s a rose scented shampoo from herbal essences, but it isn’t that. Maybe some kind of lavender thing?

I was in at WalMart yesterday, and they look like they are clearing out the last of the Wet ‘n Wild cosmetics that they have. All that was left were nail polishes and some lipsticks, 2 for $3, so of course I had to buy 2 lipsticks, lol. Bought a pale shimmery pink one and a bright fuschia – which is a bit outside my comfort zone, but for that price it was time to try it 🙂
p.s and I ended up LOVING the fuschia 🙂

All that I was able to find last minute at the local mall were those fingerless gloves, bracelet bangles, and a semi-poofy skirt. I think I did ok, but I forgot to put a fake mole on my upper lip. I did some shopping for my son for his birthday. I got a really good deal online at toysru for a scooter that was 50% off plus it came with $10 worth of shipping (so shipping only ended up costing me 77¢) and I also bought him some clothes online at Old Navy. I also got a good deal on that as I signed up for their emails and received a 20% off code. Everything I bought was on sale. My total before using the code was $50.50 which allowed me to choose free shipping. In total, after shipping and taxes, I only ended up paying abut $43.

Shopping – just back from the mall, bought a cute Minnie Mouse shirt from The Disney Store and from Sephora, Gradual self-tanning body lotion (I hope it works!) and some eye masks. Also bought the new Lancôme cushion foundation but will need to exchange it, I noticed that in the sun there was a huge color discrepancy between face/neck and we can’t have that!

I graduated from college in June 2014 and will be starting law school in August, so I’ve been spending my year off enjoying and indulging in all the things I won’t be able to do once I start law school. Shopping is definitely one of those things, since I will neither have the time nor money to do it come August!

There’s also The Body Shop warehouse sale which I raided for my hair products. Love their Rainforest line, and with my thinly stranded hair, I need products that are silicon-, sulfates- and paraben-free. Normally, they cost an arm and a leg, like $26 for a big bottle of shampoo. At the sale, the same bottle was only $10! Hoarding galore!

This week I went to Sephora on the hunt for a more effective moisturizer for my combination skin. I was introduced to the Shiseido Softening Concentrate, which balances my skin & improves the absorption of products. I LOVE this product! I also purchased another Sephora Luster Matte in Mulberry. Thank you, Sephora, for continuing to feed my addiction!

What scent reminds you of your mom?
My mother is the person who inspired my perfume passion- her two favorites are Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Tom Ford Black Orchid.
From my childhood she always had spicy-vanilla perfumes on, so fragrances in that category will always remind me of her. She also has been wearing Aveda hair products for many years, so that distinctive “Aveda” smell reminds me of her!
    She always smells divine. 🙂

I would have absolutely mispronounced “Chismis” but it reminds me of one of the boys. We were in a Pizza Hut that had vanity license plates on the wall and one of them read “CHEZLVR”. My usually incredible sharp child looked at it for a while and then said “I don’t get it… chiz lah-ver?”. The poor thing. He took it well when I just about snorted and said “do you think it might be Cheese Lover?”. HAHA! We still bring that up, often. 🙂

I keep meaning to buy black oxfords for work purposes, but am constantly sidetracked by boots. (Also the mule trend!) Not that I need any more. Thanks for the giveaway!

I shopped a lot yesterday! I went to Kohl’s and I got 3 necklaces, 3 shirts and some rings and earrings.

Love your blog! I would love to never need sleep, I find myself debating on weekends to get up early just to have a few hours of quiet to myself instead of sleeping in with the hubs and baby 🙂

I think I’d rather live a normal length of time and never need to sleep, unless my husband, son and puppy could also live forever.

Happy early birthday, fellow June baby and cat lady! Does Tabs get you a gift every year? My cats are trained well to check my beauty-product wishlist, and I’m never disappointed with what they choose.

Tabu by Dana reminds me of my Mom. Do they even make that scent anymore? She liked White Shoulders too.

the last question made my head hurt so I’m going home to TAKE A NAP! lmao

Love your questions girl (and answers). LOL

    LOVE to Tabs!

All scents remind me of my mom! She has the nose of a bloodhound and can’t stand anything overly perfumey so any strong scents make me immediately be like, “my mom wouldn’t like that!”

There isn’t any one scent that reminds me of my mom, but the scents of peppermint, tobacco and Chanel No. 5 will always remind me of my Nana, who passed a couple years ago. She was a classy, smart, amazing woman!

I did do a good bit of online shopping this past week which I kinda enjoy, unlike shopping in stores, but I didn’t purchase anything then while it was all on sale. No, that would have been too wise for me to do, I wait until now when everything is at least 30% more expensive then I buy those items. Yep, that’s about how I roll!!
Thanks so much for the giveaway.

The scent of Halston perfume reminds me of my mom! It’s been her favorite since I was a baby.

Who’s ready for a throwback?? Two words: cucumber melon. As soon as I read “a scent that reminds you of your mom….” I thought of bath and body works cucumber melon though she hasn’t worn it in years. That was our go-to Mother’s Day, Christmas and bday present for her. Poor thing.

Would I rather…..let’s see. If I lived forever would I stay the same age or would I continue to get older? So..if I have to choose I’d say live a normal length of time and never have to sleep. Just think I would finally I have the time to watch everything on my Netfilx queue.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
