Beauty Snacks: Sites of the Day, June 10

Honolua Surf Co.
My favorite surf apparel company, Honolua makes cute t-shirts, rash guards, dresses and sweatshirts (yes, it gets chilly in the tropics). Every time I visit the islands, I pick up a couple of their printed tees.

MakeupFix
The lovely Mrs. Lynne takes makeup ‘ohana (family) to new heights with her beauty blog, MakeupFix.net. Reporting from the island of Oahu in Hawaii, she covers MAC Cosmetics and a whole lot more.

Poof
Their slogan reads, “Changing the way you do your business, one drop at a time.” A small business based in Hawaii, Poof sells these little drops that you plop into the toilet after you’ve “dropped the kids off at the pool.” I wrote about them once before. The drops eliminate any unpleasant odors … and the whole concept just makes me laugh.

Na Hoku
Na Hoku sells a wide range of Hawaii-themed gold, silver and platinum fine jewelry from its stores nationwide. Last year, El Hub got me a Na Hoku necklace and pendant for our anniversary, and that’s how I found out about the company. Check out their 14k gold slipper pendants. Cute, yah?

Maui Divers Jewelry
Founded in 1959, Maui Divers Jewelry creates unique, high-quality, handcrafted designs out of coral, gold and other precious gemstones and pearls. They have a huge selection of pearls and heart pendants.

I spent my birthday yesterday at the beach! The waves were good on the south shore, so I even got in a little surfing. Any day you’re able to surf in warm waters is a great day; if you happen to do it on your birthday, that’s even better.

That’s me falling off the board there. As you can plainly see, I’m not riding tubes or anything. I get up, I fall off — that’s pretty much the extent of my surfing prowess.

I slept in this morning and got off to a late start. Now, I’m off to a meeting at Nordstrom, Ala Moana to visit the Lippmann Nail Bar. Later, I’m hitting a local Sephora to see if I can find any unusual brands of makeup. Wish me luck.

I hope you’re having a great Tuesday so far!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

HAHA! Ouch Karen. That’s how I surf too. Sometimes I wonder if all the paddling is worth the second I actually stand up on the board.

It is worth it now that I think about it…. I love to surf!!!

I’m glad to see you’re having a good time. Can’t wait to hear about your Nordie’s trip!

    Hi Iheartmakeup!

Thank you so much for your birthday wishes! It’s going great. I’m about to go and visit the Oahu Nordstrom, which should be fun! You know I can’t go on a trip without checking out the makeup wherever I am.

How are things with you? What are you taking this summer?

    Hi Melissa,

I’m the same way! That three seconds is worth it though. I hope I can get out sometime – the waves on the south side are supposed to be great all week!

Wow, Karen, that’s fantastic! 🙂 You may not be riding the 8-footers, but that looks so fun!

I’m glad it sounds like you’re having such a terrific time! My Tuesday is perfectly ordinary, but I finally got to eat something so now I feel great! Simple pleasures y’know! 😉

Aw man I missed your birthday! I hope it was happy! 🙂

Tuesday is Tuesday! Someone turned New York up to a high broil. It actually reached 98 by me! Insane. But I made up for it by making homemade onion rings. Mmmm. 🙂

Love that Poof site. I’m definitely sending that to a few people!haha

    Hi Lindsay,

Yeah, it’s true that Maui is quite a bit slower than all the action in Honolulu. I like it though and can’t wait to take the super ferry on Friday. What did you do when you were there? Got any good recommendations for me?

    Hi KK,

Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I actually didn’t pick up anything at Sephora. I saw a lot of the brands that I usually see where I live. I did do some damage at Nordstrom thought… oy! I’ll be writing about it soon!

    Hi Glosslizard,

I hear ya. Some days, all I need is an ice cream cone and it’s heavenly.

I hope to do more surfing tomorrow and Thursday. The waves are supposed to be good!

Happy, happy Tuesday! Oh, and tell your cats I say “ALOHA!”

    Hi Bridget,

LOL, I hear that. Some people I know are getting that in the Christmas stockings.

Holy crap, 98 degrees (LOL, isn’t that a boy band)! Is it humid, too? Cause when it’s dry heat it makes a huge difference, that’s for sure.

Oh, and thank you for the birthday wishes. It was a great one!

    Happy Birthday Karen!

I’m loving all of your photos and videos of the islands 🙂

I really like the Hawaiian inspired jewelry. There’s a shop at Fisherman’s Wharf where I do quite a bit of window shopping whenever I’m there.

Can’t wait to see what you find at Nordie’s and Sephora, too!

Hey Karen! I hope you had a great birthday! I must say, I’m consumed with envy that you’re off frolicking in Hawaii. That has got to be my favorite place on earth. I’ve never been to Oahu, but I LOVE the Big Island, and Maui was beatiful, too. I’m just living vicariously through you. 🙂 Enjoy your time in paradise!

Have you seen the NARS Neu Neons…I’ve gotten a couple e-mails and must admit that I am intrigued…although the colors are completely out of character for me… hmmm…I may have to check them out.

Nope, not yet! When I was at Sephora yesterday I really didn’t see anything new on the NARS front. I can’t wait to hunt it down, as the name sounds intriguing.

ahh well i got sick on the superferry going to maui, but not coming back. you HAVE to go to paia and try the gelato at ono gelato company. they have the creamiest gelato that they make themselves at the store. there’s also this cute little boutique called mahina also in paia and one in kihei, that sells the cutest things for a good price. we also went to hana to look at the beaches.

you just have to visit paia! they have lots of cute boutiques! (:

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
