Does Anybody Out There Actually Wait All 24 Days to Open Those Makeup Advent Calendars?

The Clarins Beauty Delights Advent Calendar ($125, available now)

I never had an actual advent calendar when I was growing up, but I’ve had a few of the makeup-oriented ones as an adult, and I have to say…I’ve never followed the instructions and used them in the advent calendar way.

Like with this cute one from Clarins, starting today, on the 1st of December, you’re “supposed” to open one (just one) of the little windows every day through the 24th, so that you get a different beauty treat each day until Christmas.

Please note how I’m carrying it like a baby…

So, that’s the way it’s “supposed” (airquotes) to work with an advent calendar, but I’ve never used them that way because I always open them in one fell swoop! I want all the goodies, and I want ’em now! With cute things like this, I don’t have any self-control.

No self-control whatsoever…

None!

Aaand more goodies…

Do you have more self-control than I do when it comes to makeup advent calendars (or regular advent calendars)? Do you use them in the once-a-day way, or do you just rip into them to get all the good stuff at once? #teamnoselfcontrol

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve never bought a beauty advent calendar before this year, so I don’t know what I’m going to do. The one I ordered from L’Occitane was on sale and just arrived yesterday and it’s still in the shrink wrap.
I really wanted the one from Liberty of London, but they were not shipping it to the U.S. There was another one from Selfridges I also wanted, but it was the same story. Sigh.
I think I want to try and make my own reusable one, that I put my own sweets and treats into. Of course with my procrastination problem it will probably never get done.

Advent calendars are amazing! I really wanted The Body Shop’s one but it’s way too expensive. I’ll just stick to the chocolate ones haha

Yes I wait! I just vented the other day about how much I hate seeing spoilers everywhere! 🙂 I just opened the first door of my Estée Lauder, Clinique and Rituals calendars today.

Yes! I have two this year (NYX & L’Occitane) and am opening the NYX the night before so I can use the item in the next day’s look (i.e. play with it on the day it’s supposed to be the gift on), L’Occitane once I’ve finished working that day.

I’m doing my first advent calendar this year, the Countdown to Gorgeous by bareMinerals. I got it back in October and it took some will power to not open it before now, but I’m glad I waited. It will make the lead up to Christmas even more fun 🙂

There’s absolutely NO WAY I could wait, knowing there were beauty beauties hiding inside a calendar! I have no self control!

I’m doing a chocolate one this year that I got at Trader Joes so I’m going to open it every day.

I wait! Opening one door every day is what makes advent calendars fun. Otherwise they’re just overpriced little sets! I get really excited about opening the little door every day, and it puts me in holiday mood all month long.

I wait. Except that I ripped open the rest of my Essie calendar today to see how many slots that were empty 🙁 slot 11, 13, 15 and 19 were empty and the company who sold it to me doesn’t care. But the rest of the products still amounted to a good deal, there were some nice colors 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
