If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Also, if you leave Target with only two beauty products, does that count as a haul?
So many philosophical questions!
Purr usual, I went to Target today with a short list. I only needed a tub of spinach (I’m back on a green smoothie kick), but I walked out with all kinds of nonsense, including these two products from Lauren Conrad’s homegirl/hairstylist Kristen Ess.
One’s her Signature Hair Water Spray ($10, 7-oz. bottle), which, to be honest…I’m kinda murky on exactly what it’s supposed to do, but my ends have been dry lately, and I like the idea of having a moisturizing spray on hand to use whenever whenever the mood strikes.
INGREDIENTS
Water, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Algin, Chitosan, Carrageenan, Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, Hypnea Musciformis Extract, Sargassum Filipendula Extract, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil, Gelidiella Acerosa Extract, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Sorbitol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Coco-Glucoside, Cetearamidoethyldiethonium Succinoyl Hydrolyzed Pea Protein, Xanthan Gum, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance
The other one is her Frizz Management Cleansing Conditioner ($14, 8.45-oz. bottle), which I actually needed (“needed,” she says. HAHA!), because I just finished another bottle of R+Co Analog (which costs twice as much) and was in the mood to try something new.
It’s supposed to be good for curly girls, frizzy hair, humidity control and damage.
K, sounds good. Sign me up!
It’s been a minute since I’ve used a non-foaming cleansing conditioner, and this one has a thicker consistency like a more traditional co-wash, so I hope it doesn’t weigh my hair down too much… I’ll let you know.

Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Behentrimonium Chloride, Fragrance, Acacia Concinna Fruit Extract, Algin, Aminomethyl Propanol, Balanites Aegyptiaca Fruit Extract, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Carrageenan, Cetearamidoethyldiethonium Succinoyl Hydrolyzed Pea Protein, Cetrimonium Chloride, Chitosan, Coco-Glucoside, Disodium EDTA, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, Gelidiella Acerosa Extract, Gypsophila Paniculata Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Hypnea Musciformis Extract, Keratin, Laureth-4, Litchi Chinensis Pericarp Extract, Panthenol, Polyquaternium-7, Propylene Glycol, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil, Sargassum Filipendula Extract, Sorbitol, Xanthan Gum, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone
I have to admit that I was enticed by the packaging. It’s pretty, don’t you think?
Have you tried anything from Kristen Ess before?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
P.S. Like the rest of the world, I was shocked to learn of Kate Spade’s passing. 🙁 Just goes to show you that you never know what somebody’s going through privately, so please be kind and compassionate to each other. Life is very short.
May she rest in peace.

I picked up the Kristin Ess air dry creme the other week and so far, so good! It gives my hair more texture despite the fact I tend to put it in and then… do nothing. >D

I need moisture and as much antifruzz as I could buy in one haul !
Have to make a Target run tomorrow so I’m picking these up !

I agree about the packaging – very nice. 🙂 The spray mist seems like it will be moisturizing, along the same lines as a facial mist but with a little oil. I don’t usually look at conditioner ingredients but I was surprised to see alcohol as the second ingredient. I guess because it’s a “cleansing” conditioner. The good news is it probably won’t weigh your hair down. 🙂

I noticed that too and figured it was for that. I used it last night and my hair seems OK today! Will report back after a few more uses. 🙂

It will be awesome if it works out. Much cheaper than your beloved R+Co. 🙂 I’m always envious of you thick-haired gals but I do realize you have your own set of challenges. Maybe I’d be less interested in volume if I hadn’t grown up in the big hair era. HAHA!

I haven’t tried anything from the brand, but the packaging would suck me in too.
The news of her passing are hard to process. She has a little daughter as far as I know, and my heart breaks for the whole family dealing with her loss.

Yes, you just never know what people are going through.

I’ve used her products and while I love the smell I didn’t notice anything “revolutionary” about them.

I’ve gotten at least one of her products every time I’ve been at Target lately! I prefer her purple shampoo to Kevin Murphy, so that’s big savings. I find the styling products overwhelming and every bottle says I need THAT one, so… I’ve collected quite a few. I like them!
Kristen says
LOVE her products!!! I use the hair water on second day hair to revive my curls and deactivate product from the previous day. I also use the signature shampoo and Beach Wave Spray, the Curl Defining Creme, the Air Dry Creme, and the Texturizing Spray.

I haven’t tried it but I’m dying too. Especially the Rose Gold spray! I’m also dying for a c0-wash that works and is affordable. Let us know how it goes.
