A Quick Hiya!

My current view

Hi, friend! Happy Tuesday. I hope your coffee is pipin’ hot and your lashes are extra fanned and extra flirty today. I just wanted to say a quick hi and break the radio silence. Yesterday I needed a mental health day, or as I like to call it, a “meow time” day. Everything’s totally fine on this end; I was just really tired from the weekend and needed downtime. We had family visiting all weekend long so I didn’t really get any time to relax (you know how it is when you host).

Anyway, my body was craving rest so I took a bunch of naps, read on the couch for a few hours, made some Tollhouse cookies, and now I feel 100% better.

One thing that’s taken me a long time to learn is that knowing when to rest is important, just as important as knowing when to push yourself. To be able to recognize that need and to listen to your body cues… it’s an important skill. One that took me, oh, forty or so odd years to learn. But better late than never, right?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Did you catch the eclipse yesterday? The cloud cover was heavy here in the North Bay so this was my view of the sky at the eclipse peak at 10:15. I didn’t even get to use my homemade cereal box eclipse viewer! Oh, well. At least I’ll be prepared for the next one.

Um, what eclipse?
Is this for me?

Here in South Carolina I had a full view of the eclipse. It was really quite spectacular! WE had over 1 million tourist in the state just to see it. Apparently it was one of the best viewpoints. I’m truly glad I got the opportunity to witness it.

You’re so lucky! My parents were in Wyoming and they said their view was amazing. I wish I could’ve seen it! Thank goodness for the interwebz. LOL! Did you have eclipse glasses?

I understand the need for down time. We all need a break now and then.

I totally missed the eclipse here on the east coast. I tried to view it on NASA.gov’s live stream, but my browser is not very good. My sister sent me a photo from the city and it looked impressive. Connor has gotten so big and is quite the young lady.

I tried watching through NASA’s live stream and couldn’t get through so I ended up watching part of it on Facebook Live. Wish I could’ve seen it in person! My parents were in Casper, Wyoming (directly in the path of totality) and said it was amazing.

The eclipse was a bonus! They’re both retired and love to travel, and they happened to be on a tour group going to several state parks in the area. My mom sent me several pictures of the eclipse and so I kinda got to vicariously live through her. 🙂

We only got about 70% in southern NY, but it was still totally awesome! My brother and I only had one pair of glasses between us so we kept switching back and forth! Most years, I’d have actually been in the path of totality in South Carolina on vacation but it didn’t work out this year. Kind of a bummer but it was still amazing.

I get it. I still feel guilty for occasionally taking a day off from the office as a mental health day. It’s highly recommended but I often fear what my coworkers may think. I try to calm the anxiety in my head and think if they are judging then they should take more mental health days, too!
Good for you – you’re a working mom. You deserve it. Don’t forget to do it often! You take care of everyone else – so treat yo’self!!

Hi! Glad you got some time to recharge. Cookies, reading and naps are my idea of relaxation. I took last Friday and Monday off work b/c Sunday was my birthday. I spent some time napping and reading and did some shopping by myself. It was great! I enjoy being around people, but definitely need some alone time afterwards.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
