A Makeup and Beauty Break in San Francisco

April 11th, 2008 by Karen 16 Comments

makeup and beauty blog union square san francisco heart
Happy Friday, ya’ll! We made it! At this very moment I’m heading out the door for a short trip into San Francisco. I’m bound for Union Square to have lunch with a friend and to do some much-needed shopping. My need for new pants has reached code red status; if I don’t get a new pair of khakis and some lightweight jeans ASAP, my bum will riot! I’ve been falling out of every pair of pants I own, and that is NOT CUTE.

I need your help! I plan to swing by a few makeup counters today. If you have any urgent makeup recommendations for me, lemme know in the comments. With my trusty Crackberry/Blackberry, I’ll get your suggestions in milliseconds. Dang, don’t you love living in the digital age? I sure do, most of the time. Pony Express would so not cut it.

Check in later today for a review of Shu Uemura’s UV Under Base and whatever other gems I discover in the city.

Hope you’re having a great day so far!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hey Shopping Girl!

I’d love to hear what you think about the new MAC Mineralize Foundation. We won’t get it here until the end of the month, darnit!

Good look with the pants shopping… I’m in some major need of khakis, too… but no luck yet!

Ok, here’s a brief list of some makeup items I’m wanting for myself…(some due to your blog postings!)

    laura mercier flat eyeliner brush
    laura mercier secret brightening powder
    bobbi brown malted cream eyeshadow
    korres mascara in blue-black

    fresh sugar baby lipgloss
becca tuberose eye and lip cream-new, not on website yet but might be at counters?

Have you ever used shadow insurance by too faced? I heard it was better than UDPP because it works and because it’s still blendable so it’s better for other looks. I’d like to see a real review of it though. Also… I’ve been thinking of branching out into more colored mascaras as I’ve been seeing a ton of them. So maybe if you have any recommendation on them…or if you did a look based around one, that would be cool. 🙂

Have fun! I hope you’re enjoying the day off. We have beautiful weather here in DC and I don’t want to be at work!!! Almost out of here though!

    Hey Karen!

Man, it’s been a while! Somehow our internet access was down for over a week and this week I’ve been ill (a bad flu) so haven’t really been online. What’s up? Lots of great posts you’ve made while I was gone. 🙂 I think you asked me whether I’ve found a summer job or not. Well, nothing yet, but I’m still hoping for the best! 🙂 I’ll keep you posted, tho. That’s so great you’ll get to go to SF and do some shopping and meet a friend. That’s what Fridays (and whole weekends) are for! Let us know what you got. Hey, I do have a suggestion, actually. Would be cool to hear what you think about the Lancôme Color Fever Shine l/s (308 Rose Explosion) in case you haven’t checked it out yet. I think I’ll be buying it soon. 😉

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Hi Tuprnut,

I peeped the Blu Ray collection at Sephora. It’s an interesting concept — I just wish they had more color selection! I thought the Lip Gloss palette looked cute (but why couldn’t they put it in a tube, arrrghh!).

I did check out the MAC Mineralize Foundation (Loose). At first it made me a little nervous because the powder looked very sparkly, but after seeing it on a MAC makeup artist with my skin tone I thought I’d give it a try (it looked very natural on her). I plan on trying it out this week and using my skunk brush to apply it.

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks for your list! I didn’t make it to the Becca counter (tears) because of the pants situation (sigh). But I plan on going into the city in the next few weeks and hopefully I will be able to snag the tuberose eye and lip cream.

Yeah- I don’t like applying ANY lip product with a brush… so I agree with you on this one! There was a girl on Specktra.net who used some of the Blu Ray products and they looked amazing on her. Thanks for checking!

Can’t wait to see your results with the new MAC foundation. I’ve heard that it contains some ingredients that aren’t friendly with acne-prone skin. Boo. That alone kind of freaks me out. But I love the concept and it’ll be interesting to see how MAC did in the mineral world.

    Hi Megan,

I picked up the Too Faced and have been using it with some cream and powder shadows from Clinique for the past two days and so far it’s pretty good!

I am currently “researching” (LOL) colored mascaras! Hopefully I can find some good ones this week!

Have a good day off tomorrow. Enjoy your Monday! 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
