Win a $50 Sephora e-gift card from Makeup and Beauty Blog

Morning! Rise and shine, pal o’ mine. 🙂 It’s caturday! A day to celebrate the glorious awesomeness that is (are?) cats.

OK, not officially, but ya know, if you’re into cats…

What’s shakin’? See any good TV shows or movies this week? El Hub and I went to see The Theory of Everything a few days ago and really liked it. I saw yesterday that the main guy and girl got Oscar nominations. Yeah, they deserved ’em.

Boy, so video… I tried to make one this week, a tutorial, and I did some things differently than I have in the past. Anyway, it kind of spiraled out of control, which is why I disappeared for a couple days. I was trying to edit the thing down, but I underestimated how long it would take.

I had to table it for now, but I learned a few things, so hopefully it goes smoother next time. The lesson here is that editing video can take a looong time.

In other news, it’s very wintry here this morning, but I don’t mean stormy. Just gray and cold and blah… I haven’t figured out what’s on my agenda for today, but for now, I don’t really feel like seizing the day. I feel more like asking El Hub to get me Starbucks and having breakfast in bed, lol. 🙂

I don’t know… Maybe a trip to the mall will liven things up. I haven’t been to Nordies in a while.

Whatever you’re up to, I hope you have a wonderful day, and good luck in the giveaway. (Your nephew says, “mrow,” btw.)

A high end beauty product that I think is worth the price would have to be Lancome Definicils mascara and Nars eyeshadow primer. I’m also a huge Beauty Blender fan, though I don’t think of that as high end. I tried other cheap sponges before I finally broke down and bought a Beauty Blender. I had a hard time with the idea I’d be spending $20 and throwing it away in 6 months or so. But it’s TOTALLY worth the hype.

Hubby and I are going to Ikea today. I might ask him to stop in Novato on the way since I got a Loft gift card for Christmas and when I peeled the sticker off the back to get the PIN, the numbers came off with the sticker. So I have to go into the store to get a new gift card.

I think Jordana, the makeup brand, is really underrated. Every product I have ever purchased from the line I absolutely love! You can get it from Walgreens, but they should be put in Sephora and Ulta because the products are AMAZING. My favorite from Jordana is their eyeshadow in ‘Auburn’. You really don’t have to pay that much to get high quality like some people think. I love how affordable the brand is. Y’all should check it out 🙂

I got a perm when I turned 18. Took all my birthday money and went to the hairdresser, asking for luscious locks, despite my mother and aunt telling me it would never work out.
They were right. I walked out crying, and the worst was that my hair was not only looking like major frizz, but was so dry it would break whenever I touched it. About six months later I was left with waves that I really liked, but never again would I do something like this again!

Considering my job is a stay home mom to a wild but precious red headed beauty, I’d laugh in his face because ten grand isn’t close to enough to compensate for all the wonderful work that goes into all I do 24/7 🙂 but as for makeup I sure crave anything lipstick – not even one brand – just beautiful lovely lipstick whether that perfecr color from Mac or that lovely Dolce Gabanna formula or even that rare perfect drugstore formula plus color that is as good as a high end brand. The more lipsticks I can add to my massive collection the better! Love all the fun ideas you come up with Karen for the questions! Great posts, great fun always found on your blog!

I’ve had two or three perms….two I think or maybe three well who knows haha I was 13 with the first one and I kind of loved it and I don’t remember how old I was the other time (times?) I liked having hair that wasn’t just straight but it was too tightly curled for my tastes and I never got the hang of not brushing my hair which made the perm useless!! I decided that I could curl my hair myself if I really wanted it curly though I am spectacularly lazy when it comes to my hair so that never actually happens!

Two come to mind- my friend has a really big tree of life on her back that is gorgeous, the tree is really gnarly and branchy, it looks hauntingly beautiful.
The second one I don’t even know what they’re of- but there is a guy who always goes to the gym at the same time as me who hangs out in the sauna too who has amazing chest tattoos. I try not to stare, I mean, I don’t want to seem like I’m checking him out, but his torso tattoos are really well done. ^_^

The first perm I ever had was when I was 13 and my best friend who was 14 gave me one. It didn’t come out half bad although the other half came out looking like a big frizz ball. That turned me off of getting a perm for a few years but when you have straight hair and you see your friends with perms that look great, that’s what you want. So this time I went to a professional and when she was done it looked great but I could never get it to look like that so no more perms for me.

I’m quickly finding that Dior is worth the price. I used to think anything more expensive than Clinique and Mac was just silly…. Until I tried Bobbi Brown…. Which was like a gateway to go even more expensive… YSL Glossy Stains brought me into the truly high end world…. Then I started trying Dior…. And every Dior product I have tried, I’ve pretty much loved. Well worth the price!

I’ve never had a perm, I’ve always been too chicken. I have a fair amount of hair and my hairdressers have also been leery of perming it for fear I would have a total fro, which I don’t have the bone structure to carry off. Now I’m at the salon once a month getting blonde highlights touched up and it is Super Dry. A perm would end in a hair funeral.

Good luck on the video end. I think tutorials are exhausting to put together–either photo ones. I did one recipe post where I did everything shot by shot ala Ree of Pioneer Woman and it took Hours!

Yes! I got a perm about 8 years ago and I loved it! I got it at a Korean hair salon and they called it a digital perm. I have no idea why it’s supposedly digital but it turned out great (big, soft, wavy curls). My hair didn’t dry out and didn’t feel damaged at all. I didn’t do it again because it lasted so long that I got tired of it and when I finally had everything cut off (in stages over about a year), I then got my hair rebonded into a stick straight look.

I’ve never done any video editing but, I can assure you, it would take me about 10x as long as you. So, there’s that. 🙂 And, at least, you’re learning new skills which is super important in terms of keeping your brain young. 🙂

I definitely wouldn’t quit my job for $10,000. That wouldn’t even get me through 3 months.

Hmm my mom made me get a perm when I was in the fourth grade because she thought I’d look cute with curls.. It was atrocious, complete disaster haha. As a child I was my mom’s guinea pig and she tried all of her whims on me so I got many a bad hairstyle/cut/color, outfit, etc.

$10,000 doesn’t go as far as it sounds like it would, so no – I would not quit my job for $10,000 – however if the offer was $20,000 and it’s under the table (so no taxes) I would go for it.

One day you wake up, and you’re 50 years old. You look in the mirror and think…omg, what do I do? That’s when you go to Sephora, spend some money and think…yeah, that’s what I do!

If I found a $100 bill on the ground with a note about returning it- I would absolutely do it.

My long hair had always had a light, natural perm up till a year ago. Will get a perm once every two years. It’s stayed au natural now for the longest period ever; sans perm and sans color.

I am wondering why I keep entering all these rafflecopter giveaways when I never ever win .. But it would be amazing to get the gift card and “invest” into the upcoming NARS dual intensity blushes.. It reminds me of the dual
Blushes from Dior. High end .. Hmm I would say Dior is amazing but I guess Chanel beats it more .. I do want to buy Tom Ford brushes though but gosh they are pricey ..!

Hi Karen! I had a perm when I was 12 and it was definitely regrettable. This is especially evident when you see my 8th grade school pictures where half of my hair is straight and half of it is curly from the perm being half grown out. Ugh.

I would definitely call the number and return that $100. Somebody might really be relying on that money, so it would bother me. Unfortunately, I had several perms in my teens, twenties, and thirties. The last perm I got was in 2003, and I’ll never get another one. Thanks for another giveaway Karen!!

Anything from Hourglass is worth the money especially their primer. Another high price brand that I love is Stila. Their eyeliner is the best.

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
